The 2" diameter barrel Explore Scientific 120° 9mm Eyepiece (2")from Explore Scientific 120° 9mm Eyepiece (2")gives you an apparent field of view that goes beyond ultra-wide angle but with a short focal length. This combination of AFoV and focal length produce expansive images of the night sky at high magnification. Objects stay in your field of view for extended periods, reducing the need for adjustments that can cause vibrations.

Antireflective multicoated optics ensures bright, high-contrast images with true color transmission across the entire hyper-wide field of view. The eyepiece features a textured surface for a sure-grip when changing it out, an argon-filled body for water and fog-proof performance when used in extreme temperatures and climates, and a double-tapered barrel for smooth insertion and removal from the focuser.

Hyper-wide 120° apparent field of view (AFoV) displays an expansive view of the sky with minimal optical distortion.

9mm focal length produces high magnifications for detailed observation of near and deep-sky objects. The wide AFoV keeps subjects in view without constant mount adjustment, critical if your scope doesn't have a motorized mount.

Images have true color transmission across the entire field of view, even as the observed object approaches the field stop.

Wide exit pupil and long eye relief ensure comfortable long-duration observation through your telescope.

Double-tapered barrel allows smooth insertion and removal from the telescope's eyepiece holder or diagonal.

Fold-down eyecup prevents peripheral light from leaking into your eye, causing blurring and dimming of the image.

[9 mm] Sharp stars across the field on my 12 f/5 Dob, definitely a step up from my old 70 degree SWA. Solidly made. Comfortable eye relief and inviting wide-angle view at 82 deg.

[9 mm] I replaced my 2 inch 30mm GSO in my 8 DOB with this ES eyepiece and the clarity massively improved. Colors are good in Orion's nebula and a lot of Andromeda fits in it. This is my go to eyepiece for general looking around. Built like a tank and weighs as much as one. This eyepiece will out live me.

[15.7 mm] Bought this eyepiece as a mid-power upgrade for my trusty 19mm Panoptic since it can give me a wider true field of view and more magnification and better eye relief all in one package. The views through it are stunning. It's sharper and more contrasty than the 19mm Panoptic. It's even a razor sharp planetary eyepiece which I was not expecting. Its sharpness and contrast revealed features in Jupiter's clouds that the 19mm Panoptic and 20mm Series 4000 Plossl I compared it with could not. There was no noticeable ghosting or light scatter - Jupiter was a crisp, clean orb just hanging out in a vast chasm of space. Using it in my 8 F/10 schmidt, the field is flat with no noticeable curvature. Stars exhibit coma at the edges, but that's due to the telescope, not the eyepiece. My only complaint is that eye placement is finicky in this eyepiece. Too close or too far away and you get blackouts. I would rate it as NOT comfortable to look through because of this, and takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it performs brilliantly.

[21.2 oz (602 g)] Just tried this eyepiece out in my 20 inch Dobsonian telescope. We were in the very dark skies in northern Nevada. Views were excellent. This eyepiece has made my scope an entirely new experience.

[12.5 mm] This is pretty much my favorite eyepiece. Field of view and clarity are amazing; mix that with the 17mm magnification and it's my goto eyepiece for almost anything. If it were forced upon me I would happily use this as my only eyepiece for the rest of my life.

With that said, I must say that the rubber eyecup fell off within a couple days of use and I will need to figure out the repair myself (not a big enough issue to send back). Also, the plastic cap doesn't fit over the top of the eyepiece for storage? What is that about? It's from a different eyepiece model? I wouldn't expect these issues with an otherwise very high quality piece.

Even with these issues I am giving it 5 stars because they do not take away from the amazing viewing experience and overall quality.
