Built with a 2" nosepiece that fits into larger drawtubes, focusers, and diagonals, the Explore Scientific 2" 2x Focal Extender for Telescopesfrom Explore Scientific 2" 2x Focal Extender for Telescopesdoubles the magnification of any 2" or 1.25" eyepiece and adds another layer of usability to the eyepieces you have. Additionally, since low-power eyepieces often offer a longer eye relief than high-magnification ones, using this focal extender gives you the benefit of a more comfortable viewing experience while enjoying a high-power observational experience. The extender has a fully multi-coated 4-element lens configuration to produce bright images with true color representation without distortion across the entire field of view, and the edges of the lenses are blackened to further improve contrast. The extender accepts larger 2" eyepieces and with the included reducer adapter you can also use the smaller and more popular 1.25" size for more versatility.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the new RF 400mm f/2.8 and 600mm f/4 lenses?

A: The RF 2x will work with the RF 600mm f/4L IS USM and RF 400 2.8 yes..

Q: 2. does it fit the explore Scientific AR152?

A: No, the Explore Scientific Crayford Style Focuser for APO EDT Series Telescopes (2") will not fit the Explore Scientific AR152. This is a spare part or replacement for APO EDT series telescopes.

Q: 3. Will this two new RF extender maintain auto focus as well as the F11 aperture when use with the new RF100-500mm, RF 600mm and RF 800mm?

A: Yes, it will retain auto focus.

Q: 4. If it will fit a Sky-Watcher Evostar 72" telescope?

A: No, it will not. Designed for specific Explore Scientific telescopes.

Q: 5. Does this work with a Canon Zoom Lens EF 100-400mm L series on a Canon 7D?

A: The Canon Extender RF 2x is incompatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens. The Canon Extender EF 2X III, BH #CA2XEF3, is compatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens. On the Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera, only manual focus will work.

Q: 6. It's not compatible with a 70-200 or the RF 24-105, due to physical incompatibility, can it be resolved by using extension tubes like Kenko or JJC? It's not specifically recommended by canon but These extensions tubes are usually used for Macro. Some setup has been made combining the canon extender (EF) 2x and 1.4x with an extension tube ( to shot the moon for exemple). So the question is woukd it work?

A: No , it will not work

Q: 7. I need to know 2 things: what is the maximum it is designed for ?[in pounds/ounces, or grams] (i have a suitable mount. Secondly, as I hope to retrofit this to an existing OTA, what is the minimum length when racked fully in?

A: This 2" Crayford Style Focuser from Explore Scientific is a dual-speed focuser that comes with the APO EDT series telescopes, and is sold here as a spare part or replacement. It is not intended for use with any other brand or model telescope.

Q: 8. Can you safely use a 2x teleconverter with extension tubes(all Canon original)? Just curious!

A: Extension tubes will fit the 2x converter but how well they work would be unknown. The tube)s) would need to be mounted to the camera, then the 2x converter, and then the compatible lens. Automatic functions such as AF and auto exposure might be lost too.

Q: 9. Does this fit on Explore Scientific FirstLight 127mm f/15 Maksutov-Cassegrain Telescope ?

A: This will not work on the Scope you referenced.

Q: 10. If used with 100-500mm RF, is it possible to damage the lens if it is tried to go below 300mm by mistake? The hit is directly on the lens or does it has a safe stop?

A: The RF extender prevents the lens from retracting past 300mm. From my tests here at the Superstore, while it is might be possible to damage them if you really tried, it seems unlikely as the force generated by rotating the lens between 500-300 isn't very high.

[2.05 lb] This is a amazing piece, you won't be disappointed with it. It is heavy, but worth it. A nice way to get more performance from your 9mm eyepiece on clear seeing nights. It comes with a 2 to 1.25 adapter as well. I picked up a separate 2 plastic plug so I would not have to use the metal adapter as a plug on the female end.

[20 oz / 567 g] This by far is the best focal extender in my collection. Flat from edge to edge with no image distortion. By far worth every penny. I will enjoy this extender for years..

[2.05 lb] I paid Only 99 dollars to get this FExtender w/4 optical elements, cause it was on discount!. Thanks B&H for that! Quality is superb and after a few weeks I am pleased with buying. I have improved my observation and photo/video capacity of my Comet Hunter. Great job of Exp. Scientific with this 2X extender. Highly recomendable.

[20 oz / 567 g] I have used an xcel 3x Barlow for imaging solar system objects and also for visual observing, since about 5 years. Felt the need to try out a focal extender this time. This seems to be widely recommended and hence purchased this. I am quite happy with the results I am getting. The build quality seems to be great for this price point. Very happy with this!

[20 oz / 567 g] There are many A+ reviews about the 2x Extender from Explore Scientific! Add my opinion as A+. Okay, so the glass is excellent and the machining of the unit is exemplary - fit & finish unbeatable. What puts this above & beyond are the instructions are easy to read & understand, and the box from ES is an amazing work of art and utility! Seriously! The box alone is probably worth keeping & displaying at any gathering! The extender is hefty and is packed well within; a given. The covering is based on Wil Tirion's Uranography & Graphic Design! My wife was more impressed with the boxes, than the gadgets! Guys, ponder it. I may survive this purchase. LOL!

[2"] I have had nothing but cloudy weather every since I purchased it.
Tonight however I had a very short window to give it a try. I used it in conjunction with an Explore Scientific 14mm 82 degree field eyepiece as a test. Viewing Jupiter through my 6 inch Celestron Evolution telescope the 14mm gives me 107x. The view was very sharp. When
I added the 2x focal extender the view of Jupiter lost no sharpness or contrast. Magnification was now 214x on a very average night. This is the best by far of a variety of 2x Barlows that I have used over quite a long period of observing.

[2.05 lb] I use the 2 2X Explore Scientific Focal Extender with 2 Eyepieces in 25, 30, 35mm (70 degree FOV Bressers) primarily for viewing Deep Sky Objects: Clusters, Nebulas and Galaxies. My scope is a Meade LX 90 8 inch. The results with the 2 extender are pretty amazing. I begin by using a 20 or 25 mm eyepiece without the extender to find the object. Then for the increased magnification I switch to the 2 extender with either the 25 mm or 30 mm 2 eyepiece . Before getting the 2 extender I used a 1.25 2X extender (also Explore Scientific) with Plossls for viewing the deep sky objects. For the most part, with that setup the objects were bright and clear but, with the narrow FOV of the Plossls, not as dramatic. With the 2 extender and the 2 Bressers the clusters and nebulas are bigger, brighter, well defined objects. The clusters especially are bright and clear with many well defined points of light. The Galaxies are still fuzzy objects, but magnified. If there is a downside to the use of the 2 extender for me, it might be the weight. The combination of the 2 Extender, a 2 Diagonal, and a 2 eyepiece is heavy. But, so far, the scope performs just as it did with the 1.25 setup. Also, the 2 setup prevents the scope from going to zeinth. A 1.25 adapter is included with the extender so it is not necessary to have both the 1.25 and the 2 extenders. I am completely satisfied with the extender.

[2"] I've only run one night with this but from what I can see, there was no degradation of visual or photographic by putting this into the optical path, the build is rock solid.
