The IK Multimedia Brickwall Limiter - Multi-Algorithm Processoris designed for mixing and mastering applications. In a mastering context, the function of the brickwall limiter is to set a ceiling threshold beyond which the volume of a track cannot go, and then increase the volume of the track so that it approaches the limit and fulfills the loudness requirements for the material. This is generally one of the last processes applied to a track before it is ready for broadcast or digital distribution. In a mixing application, the limiter can be used in a manner similar to a compressor to add punch or color to a mix.

The software offers a series of different limiting algorithms such as a "clean" setting for the most natural result with minimal distortion to saturation settings that add more character to the sound. The user interface includes virtual knobs for controlling the input level, output level, attack time, and release time.

It also features a gain reduction meter, an overall output meter, and a button for linking the left and right channel. A bypass switch allows you to A/B the effect of the processing on the signal, and a reset switch can be used to restore the original settings.

The plug-in is fully compatible with native 32- and 64-bit applications on both Mac OS X (Universal Binary) and Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) computers. It supports VST, RTAS, AAX, and Audio Units plug-in formats, and can also be used with the T-RackS CS standalone application (sold separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long is the cable?

A: About 25 long, not including the jacks on each end.

Q: 2. Does the this cord convert digital to analog?

A: Not quite. The IK Multimedia interface that this cable connects to, would do that work and then it would send that conversion, via lightning connector, into the compatible iOS device that you are using for recording.

Q: 3. Is this cable compatible with Evermix MixBox2 or EvermixBox4?

A: This cable is designed for IK Multimedia products and cannot be guaranteed to work with third party products.

Q: 4. Will this securely hold my iPad Pro 12.9 in portrait mode?

A: I am not sure, Brian. I bought it for my son-in-law to use when playing music (holding his Ipad for chords & lyrics) but I don't know the size of his ipad. Otherwise it works great for him.

Q: 5. Will this device work when paired with an Apple lightning converter for use on an iPhone 7?

A: Yes, the iRig PRE will work with the iPhone 7 using the included Apple 3.5mm (TRRS) to Lightning adapter.

Q: 6. Can this fit onto a manfrotto smartphone tripod?

A: Yes, the IK Multimedia iKlip 3 will fit onto the Manfrotto smartphone tripod. The iKlip's UNC 1/4"-20 male to 5/8"-27 female thread adapter allows for universal compatibility with any standard tripod.

Q: 7. I have a Galaxy Samsung 6. I have a Galaxy Samsung 6 phone Will this cable work?

A: No, the 30-pin connection is meant for older iOS devices like the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, or iPad 2. The Samsung Galaxy S6 would use a Micro USB connection. To connect a digital iRig to a device with this connection you would need a Micro-USB to Micro-USB (OTG) cable or a Micro-USB to Mini-DIN connection. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/?A=micro-usb-to-mini-din-cable https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/?A=micro-usb-otg-to-micro-usb-cable

Q: 8. Is the sound quality good with DSLRs ? I'd like to use this with running and gunning on-the-go with a shotgun mic and not have to sync audio in post. Thanks, Ef

A: The audio recorded by virtually any DSLR's built-in microphone is mediocre at best. The iRig Pre Microphone Interface is not designed to connect to cameras as it is intended for use with iOS devices like the iPhone or iPad. Consider a Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone B&H # SHVP83 which requires no adapters. It is a plug and play mic. An XLR shotgun powered by a battery will offer even better performance but will require a cable and an adapter. Shure VP83 LensHopper Shotgun Microphone B&H # RONTG2K2 (B&H Kit)

Q: 9. Will this hold a Lepow Z1 Gamut portable monitor? It is 15.6", with product dimensions of 14.2" x 8.8" x 0.34".

A: Based on the dimensions provided, it does not appear that the IK Multimedia iKlip 3 Video Universal Camera Stand Tripod Mount for Tablets will accommodate the Lepow Z1 Gamut portable monitor. The iKlip 3 will hold tablets and similar products that measure between 7 and 12.9".

Q: 10. Will this work with my iPhone 11 with otter box

A: As long as it does not exceed the measurements of 3.5 to 5.5", yes, it will fit.

[Yes] I have a project studio in a rental apartment so am a bit limited as to modifications that can be made for acoustic treatment; the room is very minimally treated and I knew some of its problems already. The room correction results I was able to get using the IK Multimedia ARC Studio v4 are quite impressive for my monitoring system (Heritage Audio RAM System 2000, Mackie HRS10 Sub and HR624mkII monitors). Currently, I have limited the range of the correction to the HR624s from about 53Hz to 16kHz, but once you have taken all the measurements (takes around 10 minutes for 21 points - very simple) it's very easy to change frequency ranges and target curves; the resulting sound is incredible given my room and monitoring system. Is it perfect - no - but given the starting point it's tremendously better; I think this is evidenced in the before and after graphs, but the graphs don't do justice to just how much better the resulting sound is; sound stage and separation are drastically increased, lows tightened, mids evened out and vocals have become much clearer. Should you purchase it? While there is no substitute for a well treated room - $300 (the cost of the ARC system) is probably not going to get you very far in traps, diffusers, absorbers, etc. (even if you DIY) - and your room will still have problems; so, for my use cases and budget it was definitely worth a try. I think that it will be my best studio purchase of 2024. Perhaps it will be yours also?
