The Celestron NexStar Evolution 6 150mm GoTo Telescopefrom Celestron NexStar Evolution 6 150mm GoTo Telescopeis a powerful, portable, versatile, and user-friendly telescope that can be used for observing everything from the Moon and planets to deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. Using Celestron's proprietary StarBright XLT multi-coating system, light transmission is increased throughout the entire optical path with antireflection multicoated lenses, highly reflective multicoated mirrors, and four-element rare-earth glass. While the focal ratio is a slow f/10, the scope's precision tracking system allows it to be a competent astrophotography/imaging platform for the Moon and planets.

The Evolution comes with two ways to use and control it. The first is to simply download Celestron's free Navigator app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The scope's Wi-Fi provides the connection to the app and expands the capabilities and functionality, including an expanded database of over 120,000 objects with detailed information on more than 200 of those objects. Second is the iconic 2-line, 16-character NexStar computer controller. This is a wired piece of hardware with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects plus several astronomical catalogs including the Messier and Caldwell. Whether using the controller or mobile device, the system can assist in properly aligning the scope, provide tours of the objects and events visible whenever and wherever you're viewing, and allow for manual direction and slew control.

Designed for portability, the Evolution features a long-life lithium-iron phosphate battery providing up to 10 hours of continual use on a single charge. The scope comes with an AC power supply with plugs for the US, EU, UK, and AU outlets. The battery powers the servo motors, auxiliary accessory ports, a USB charging port, and the built-in Wi-Fi. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth enable you to manually move and point the telescope when it's powered off.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you not use Starsense camera, with a Starsense HC, or do you need standard HC?

A: Good morning, If the StarSense autoalign system is used, it is mandatory that the dedicated StarSense hand controller be used for the autoalignment process. However, If the StarSense camera and the autoalign system is not used, the StarSense hand controller can be used to "manually" control the telescope in place of the standard Nexstar Plus hand controller.

Q: 2. Can the telescope be used with the Sky Safari App or only the Celestron SkyPortal?

A: Yes, the NexStar Evolution has the built-in WiFi so you can use that with the SkyPortal app. I can not confirm the use of Sky Safari, as that is another company.

Q: 3. can u adapt 2" eyepiece to it?

A: Yes , of course Lumicon 1.25" Male to 2" Female Drop-In Eyepiece Adapter BH #LU125M2SA • MFR #LA1055 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/457656-REG/Lumicon_LA1055_1_25_Male_to_2.html

Q: 4. I just received my NexStar 6 Evolution and it appears there are several noticeable particles on the interior mirrors within the OTA. Is this common with new scopes or did I get a bad / poorly sealed version?

A: It is possible. The environment where there are assembled is not 100% dust free. You can return of e refund or exchange

Q: 5. Does this scope come with a hand controller?

A: Yes it comes with the hand controller but I have never used it, I always use the app to control my scope.

Q: 6. What is the package shipping weight and dimensions?

A: Unfortunately we are unable to provide the Shipping Dimensions, and Weight. My apologies. The dimensions of the scope packaged in the manufacturer's box is 43 X 28 X 15 (LXWXH).

Q: 7. Can this telescope also be powered from a mains lead or is it battery only?

A: While this telescope comes with AC adapter for charging, Celestron specifies using only battery power (though not while charging) for the evolution series telescopes.

Q: 8. Can I attach a Canon 6D with a mount to this?

A: Your question is a little unclear. Do you mean attaching the camera on top of the telescope? If so, look at Celestron's universal piggyback mount. You will be able to use the mount to track. If you mean taking photos with the telescope - with the proper attachments, you probably could. The issue that you will come across is shooting near the zenith - I don't think that there is sufficient clearance for a SLR. I would check the forums.

Q: 9. Does the telescope come already in the Hard Case in this kit or do the come separately packed?

A: This question is a double of the prior question.

Q: 10. Does this scope continuously track an object?

A: Yes it does. It has an alt-azmouth mount (up/down, left/right). You basically have to triangulate it with the right time and date so it knows your exact position on earth, and then it will track anything you're looking at. The process is easy -- pick three bright stars and center on each one in succession, and it will triangulate itself and you're good. It takes about 5-10 minutes.

[35 x 28 x 15"] Used the scope about 5 times so far. Very easy to align with the hand controller using 2 star. The Sky align seems to fail for me but it could be because I have a limited view of the sky and stars aren't far apart. Hard to tell.

Instructions are lacking and app isn't great, but the tracking, optics, and form factor are so great that I am willing to overlook those issues.

So far so good!

[Star] Received my new Celestron Evolution 6 in 2 days thanks to B&H free expedited shipping. The reviews by Ed Ting and others of this scope made it seem terrific, and it is. Many thoughtful design elements throughout and a very attractive, user friendly package. The optics are very clean and the computer aided alignment options work very well. It’s a great grab and go scope for when you just have a short time for observing.
Unfortunately the first scope was defective out of the box and had azimuth motor issues. After contacting Celestron about the issue and waiting a week with no reply, I reached out to B&H by chat. First, every B&H employee was sensitive to the disappointment you feel when a purchase you are excited about is defective. My problem was quickly diagnosed and within several minutes a free shipping label was in my inbox. My return was processed unbelievably quickly and within 6 days my replacement scope arrived and it is perfect!
I have always been impressed by B&H customer service but my experience with this telescope exchange confirms that their service is the best in the business. Between the curated product selection, the expert advice, customer service and value pricing B&H is the best!

[1500 mm] I am 83 and wanting to return to a hobby I had as a
teenager. Back then I could not afford a fine telescope. Many years later, here I am prepared to fulfill my childhood wish.

I called B%H this morning and spoke with Jacob. From the very
beginning he was incredibly helpful. I explained to him that I was needing advice on purchasing a good Telescope and that I was interested in Astrophotography.

Jakub was patient with me and help me understand the various options in selecting a telescope and the necessary hardware for Astrophotography. He was polite and happy to engage me in a helpful conversation.

I did purchase a Crestron NexStar Evolution 6 with a number
of Accessories. I am excited that I have finally fulfilled my life long wish to own a fine telescope.

Thank you, Jacob

Robert

[1.25"] I have an older C8 on an older EQ heavy duty mount that is becoming more and more less portable. Most of my accessories from my C8 fit the 8EVO. Can't wait to take this new one out once the weather breaks. I purchased the Pelican iM2975 case at the same time. I only have the mount/scope case, tripod and lens storage box to have to take out now. With the setup using my ipad and wifi software on the mount it only takes minutes to get setup. Like with the case, using B&H was a no brainer.

[Star] My 17 yo son loves the NextStar Evolution 8. He is still figuring out other features but the images taken are stunningly sharp. Great value and B&H provides reliable services, especially prompt delivery timing.

[35 x 28 x 15"] I've only been able to use the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 once but so far I am very impressed with it. The main selling point for me was the 8 inch aperture, built-in rechargeable battery, and the manual clutches. Setting up the scope is extremely easy and the wifi feature is convenient and a nice option to have. Using Celestron's X-Cel LX 9mm and 12mm eyepieces, I viewed Jupiter and Saturn which were very sharp but getting perfect focus takes a little finessing.

[35 x 28 x 15"] After ten years using a dobsonian scope I decided to go back to a go-to SCT. I previously owned a Meade LX-90 so I'm familiar with this style telescope. Knowing Celestron's good reputation I chose the NexStar Evolution 8. The scope arrived very well packed and has very high quality construction. I've not yet had a chance to use it outdoors (cloudy, rainy winter weather). I was extremely impressed with the FedEx expedited shipping B&H provided, free of charge. Best shipping of any vendor I checked with.

[Dovetail] As the owner of 8" Vixen R200SS and Meade 10" Lightbridge, I can confirm that NexStar Evo 6" offers clear and crisp view of DSO comparable to that in a 8" reflector.
The resolution of planet-viewing is even better than that in my 10" Lightbridge.

I think 6" SCT has often been underrated.

The whole set of EVO 6 can be easily carried on the shoulder.
The 6" OTA can be transported with the mount attached.

I use three eyepieces: Delos 17.3, Delos 10, Pentax 14XW.

SkyPortal is very easy to use, and the WiFi control is fantastic.

For more advanced observers, I recommend SkySafari 6 Plus.

Very satisfied with the fast service of B&H!

[Adjustable] I had been trying to find the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 scope in stock for two months. I contacted 5 dealers around the country and soon I found that B&H got them in stock so I immediately ordered one. Interesting how three dealers on the west coast and one in the midwest said they didn't know when they would have this scope in stock but B&H in New York had them. Plus free expedited FedEx two day shipping from New York to me in the Pacific Northwest!

[Yes] The Evolution is a super telescope! The Skyalign software is really convenient, it only requires pointing to 3 bright stars and even identifies those alignment stars. The built in rechargeable battery is just great.
