The Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 Telescopefrom Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 Telescopeis a powerful, portable, versatile, and user-friendly telescope that can be used for observing everything from the Moon and planets to deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. Using Celestron's proprietary StarBright XLT multicoating system, light transmission is increased throughout the entire optical path with antireflection multicoated lenses, highly reflective multicoated mirrors, and four-element rare-earth glass. While the focal ratio is a slow f/10, the scope's precision tracking system allows it to be a competent astrophotography/astroimaging platform for the Moon and planets.

The Evolution comes with two ways to use and control it. The first is to simply download Celestron's free Navigator app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The scope's Wi-Fi provides the connection to the app and expands the capabilities and functionality, including an expanded database of over 120,000 objects with detailed information on more than 200 of those objects. Second is the iconic 2-line 16-character NexStar computer controller. This is a wired piece of hardware with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects plus several astronomical catalogs including the Messier and Caldwell. Whether using the controller or mobile device, the system can assist in properly aligning the scope, provide tours of the objects and events visible whenever and wherever you're viewing, and allow for manual direction and slew control.

Designed for portability, the Evolution features a long-life lithium-iron phosphate battery providing up to 10 hours of continual use on a single charge. The scope comes with an AC power supply with plugs for the US, EU, UK, and AU outlets. The battery powers the servo motors, auxiliary accessory ports, a USB charging port, and the built-in Wi-Fi. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth enable you to manually move and point the telescope when it's powered off.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The size & weight of the TRipod tube is given in the spec. But what are the size and the weight of the mount & optical tube box?

A: OTA/Evolution mount box: 22.1" x 17.5" x 33.7" @ 48 lbs Tripod box: 36.4" x 15.6" x 19.1" @ 34.6 lbs

Q: 2. Is possible to connect to 220V voltage?

A: he scope comes with an AC power supply with plugs for the US, EU, UK, and AU outlets.

Q: 3. What is the minimum and maximum height of the tripod with the legs spread out, and how tall is the alt-az mount?Thank you for answering my question.

A: It is 22 -40 .

Q: 4. It is said that this requires 3 stars alignment , so after three stars aligned , does that mean it will go other objects on command or you still need to align it again other objects ?

A: No, once the telescope is aligned (3-star alignment is only one of the options, but there are others), you can ask it to go to other objects directly, either by using the app or hand controller.

Q: 5. Is it good for long exposure photos of nebulae and galaxies even though it doesn't have aGEM mount?

A: The NexStar Evolution is probably the closest One can get to a Equatorial mount type astrophotography, due to its 146mm diameter/180-tooth stainless steel worm wheels.

Q: 6. Does the telescope come already in the Hard Case in this kit or do the come separately packed?

A: This question is a double of the prior question.

Q: 7. I have just taken delivery of this telescope. The 'Celestron' logo on the side of the fork mount arm (above the WIFI symbol indicator) does not light up under any circumstances. (The WIFI connection symbol light and tray accessory light work fine. ) On the regular 'Evolution' models (IE not this limited edition model) this 'Celestron' logo serves as a battery indicator light and power light. It pulses when the battery is charging and it is illuminated when the mount power is switched on. The regular 'Evolution' user manual refers to this light as the 'Celestron Power Logo'. To be clear - I am not talking about the WIFI symbol light, which is working fine. So my question is - does this Limited Edition model actually have a working 'Celestron Power Logo' light? The design of the Celestron logo on the fork arm on this limited Edition model is different from the regular Evolution models and I am wondering if it is actually meant to light up on my model?? Otherwise, how am I meant to be able to see if the battery is charging, etc??? (See "Appendix C: L.E.D. Status" of the regular Evolution manual where it confirms about the Power Logo lighting up during charging, etc) So, right now, I don't know if my Celestron Power Logo light is broken or if this precise model does not have one?? Please only respond if you are SURE of the answer to this question. I don't mean to sound rude, I just want to know if I have a defective mount or not :) I dont have a smart phone to check battery status, so it's very important for me to have a working battery status light. Celestron agree with me, because they designed the regular Evolution model with this light ;) Thanks for any help you can give me in solving this mystery.

A: Your mount is not defective. The plastic in the fork arm in front of the Power Logo is opaque on the Limited 60th Anniversary NexStar Evolution 8 #12098, so the battery light is not visible. Customers will need to download the SkyPortal App to see what the battery level on the mount is and verify that the battery is charging. We apologize for the confusion and will be making an official statement regarding this for our website shortly.

Q: 8. Hi! With the November and December holidays coming relatively soon; historically how typical would this telescope go on sale? Is it worth the chance and wait? Thanks!!

A: So we do have Sales all year around. Usually during the Holiday Season that is when the Manufacturer's have better offers though.

Q: 9. Does the item include a tripod?

A: No it does not. "OTA and mount" only

Q: 10. Does this scope come with a hand controller?

A: Yes it comes with the hand controller but I have never used it, I always use the app to control my scope.

[2032 mm] I've been waiting for months for the 8 or 9.25 Evolution to arrive. I have several scopes of larger apertures and my get outside fast scope is my 10 Dob on wheelie bars in the garage. I live in a dense light polluted area, a few miles from Phoenix downtown. Big dob captures a lot of light pollution as well as a few more DSOs so, for the moon, planets, M31, M42 when they're in my narrow window or when I want to just run up to the park a few miles away I can toss this on my front seat, takes up no room, and I have easy quick set-up, true go-to efficiency with the quick three star/planet alignment in the new Evolution. Don't expect to see dark nebulae or faint galaxies with this 6 scope but the optics are very crisp even with the supplied eyepieces. I did add the Celestron 2 diagonal as I have mostly 2 eyepieces and I experienced no vignette effects. Tripod is sturdy enough for this scope but I'd heard others with the 8 not as pleased (9.25 has a heavier set-up). I found it easier to use with the hand piece than a tablet and the Sky Portal app but I run the app anyway control with the hand piece. Overall a great addition to my collection. A good beginner scope but too much reliance on the electronics can be an issue and, the battery will someday fail; not easily replaced.

[2032 mm] Received my new Celestron Evolution 6 in 2 days thanks to B&H free expedited shipping. The reviews by Ed Ting and others of this scope made it seem terrific, and it is. Many thoughtful design elements throughout and a very attractive, user friendly package. The optics are very clean and the computer aided alignment options work very well. It’s a great grab and go scope for when you just have a short time for observing.
Unfortunately the first scope was defective out of the box and had azimuth motor issues. After contacting Celestron about the issue and waiting a week with no reply, I reached out to B&H by chat. First, every B&H employee was sensitive to the disappointment you feel when a purchase you are excited about is defective. My problem was quickly diagnosed and within several minutes a free shipping label was in my inbox. My return was processed unbelievably quickly and within 6 days my replacement scope arrived and it is perfect!
I have always been impressed by B&H customer service but my experience with this telescope exchange confirms that their service is the best in the business. Between the curated product selection, the expert advice, customer service and value pricing B&H is the best!

[43 x 28 x 15"] I have been using this scope for about 10 months. My last telescope was a cheap Costco dob, so this is my first real telescope.

It says culminated, connects quickly to wifi, is fairly stable in light wind, and is very easy to setup. I keep the tripod in a large tripod bag and the telescope in a large pelican case. With this combination, I can safely take this scope anywhere in a modestly portable setup.

Everything seems well bad and it hasn't had any issues in my 30+ observing sessions.

Go-to is very accurate if you do 3 star alignment and then add stars via the app. It can slew across the whole sky and land dead on to a target.

My biggest issue, as many have said, is the red dot finder. It is cheap and even as a fit young man, it is a pain on my back to look through if I need to align to something high in the sky. For the money, they should include a better finder. A RACI finder is my next accessory and should have been included.

All in all, I love this thing!

[Star] Used the scope about 5 times so far. Very easy to align with the hand controller using 2 star. The Sky align seems to fail for me but it could be because I have a limited view of the sky and stars aren't far apart. Hard to tell.

Instructions are lacking and app isn't great, but the tracking, optics, and form factor are so great that I am willing to overlook those issues.

So far so good!

[2032 mm] The Evolution is a super telescope! The Skyalign software is really convenient, it only requires pointing to 3 bright stars and even identifies those alignment stars. The built in rechargeable battery is just great.

[Star] I am 83 and wanting to return to a hobby I had as a
teenager. Back then I could not afford a fine telescope. Many years later, here I am prepared to fulfill my childhood wish.

I called B%H this morning and spoke with Jacob. From the very
beginning he was incredibly helpful. I explained to him that I was needing advice on purchasing a good Telescope and that I was interested in Astrophotography.

Jakub was patient with me and help me understand the various options in selecting a telescope and the necessary hardware for Astrophotography. He was polite and happy to engage me in a helpful conversation.

I did purchase a Crestron NexStar Evolution 6 with a number
of Accessories. I am excited that I have finally fulfilled my life long wish to own a fine telescope.

Thank you, Jacob

Robert

[Star] As the owner of 8" Vixen R200SS and Meade 10" Lightbridge, I can confirm that NexStar Evo 6" offers clear and crisp view of DSO comparable to that in a 8" reflector.
The resolution of planet-viewing is even better than that in my 10" Lightbridge.

I think 6" SCT has often been underrated.

The whole set of EVO 6 can be easily carried on the shoulder.
The 6" OTA can be transported with the mount attached.

I use three eyepieces: Delos 17.3, Delos 10, Pentax 14XW.

SkyPortal is very easy to use, and the WiFi control is fantastic.

For more advanced observers, I recommend SkySafari 6 Plus.

Very satisfied with the fast service of B&H!

[f/10] Overall, a very good telescope. Bought it primarily to host starparties for the public. Easy set up and alignment to enable viewing as soon as possible. Sharp celestron optics which I expected. Have used it only few times and I am pleased thus far. My only criticism at this point is the eyepiece connection at base of OTA. There are only 2 small screws to secure the eyepiece. I was disappointed that there is no constriction band on the inside for better connection. But, so far, the eyepieces seem secure anyway. Telescope components are easily transportable.
