A: Yes - the stand is all steel. There is nothing whimpy about this stand - it is a real deal Matthews product.

A: The legs are not made of steel. The entire stand is comprised of aluminum with steel bolts and nuts except for the top riser and one part of the leveling leg which are steel. It's a good stand and will hold every bit of the weight it is rated for. Folded up, It is taller than I expected which was not a plus for me but I removed the inner shock absorbing springs which made it about 3 inches shorter. All in all, I'm happy with the stand. It's light weight which is why I bought it. Hope this helps.

[Yes] I shoot a lot on location and was looking for a portable and rugged light stand that had an adjustable leg for uneven ground. This was perfect. Strong enough for a soft box and sandbags on a breezy day. Although I think it's a little overkill, the junior receiver/baby pin combo head is nice feature. Still would be a great value with just a baby (5/8) pin. 5
