The Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 ED Triplet Refractor Telescopefrom Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 ED Triplet Refractor Telescopefeatures a triplet apochromatic lens system with Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass and Explore Scientific's proprietary anti-reflection EMD fully multicoated optics. This combination of glass, lenses, and coatings virtually eliminates chromatic and spherical aberrations for clear and bright images without distortion across the entire field of view, with true color rendition. This is a versatile optical tube assembly that is powerful enough to clearly see the planets and bright deep sky objects. It has a relatively small form-factor that makes it perfect as a portable grab-and-go option, or set up on a dual-mount rig for astrophotography/astroimaging.

A mounting cradle-ring clamps over optical tube assembly (OTA). The cradle-ring assembly allows the user to adjust the orientation and position of the scope relative to the mount to optimize viewing comfort and balance, while avoiding interference with other equipment. The scope is offered without a mount or tripod, but a Vixen-style dovetail plate makes it compatible with any alt-az or equatorial mount with a Vixen-style saddle. Its two-speed rack-and-pinion focuser helps make fine-focusing fast and precise. A 90° star diagonal is also included for more comfortable viewing. The mirror has dielectric coatings for a 99% light transmission for minimal light loss when using it.

[31 x 10.5 x 8"] Traded up from an AR102mm to the 102mm FDC100. Fantastic views of jupiter and Saturn. Can easily see the Cassini division. Had my first ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy. I love that I can have everything assembled and one hand it onto my mount. Just waiting on a better camera to try some DSO imaging.
B&H customer service has been top notch.

[9.6 lb (4.4 kg)] I have had this scope for a few weeks now and the optics are great. I do some visual but usually I do astrophotography using ASI AIR PLUS and a ZWO ASI 183MC camera. The images I get are great and stars are tack sharp with no color bloating or fringing.
Files are FITS files and as soon as I figure out how to use a good photo processing program my photos will look better. Only wish the focusing tube was longer so I dont need to ad so many adapters extensions to reach focus, But everyone go's thru that issue.Scope works great with a DSLR also. I am glad I bought it and B&H delivered fast and well packaged.

[None] You can't beat this telescope for the price. No it's not an APO ... no it's not a triplet ... but at this price, it does everything it is supposed to do. It is well built and comes with a decent tripod (although I will be replacing the tripod for an EQ mount). It focusses surprisingly well, and even though it is designed for viewing wide view deep sky objects, it does a nice job on the moon as well (see attached photo). There is some color aberration when photographing the moon, but that is easily fixed in Lightroom. This telescope is lightweight and will make a great traveling scope when I need to get out to darker skies. If you are on a budget, this is a quality scope that costs less than half of the price of an apochromatic of the same size.

[90°] Purchased the ED 102 triplet to expand my “grab and go” astronomy equipment inventory. Have an ED 80 Triplet, which is excellent, and wanted something with a little larger for deep sky photography on the road. Paired with ZWO AM3 ,ZWO ASI2600 Duo and ZWO ASIair Plus is a great working combination. ED 102 has great optics, and I had used a borrowed one in the past with excellent results. Looking forward to some clear nights to put the new ED 102 through its paces.

[9.6 lb (4.4 kg)] I finally had a clear night to try out this new scope. It is very easy to move in one piece. I do leave the eyepeice tray uninstalled so I can close the tripod when I carry it. The views were crisp. I viewed the Orion Nebula with and without a nebula filter. I could see the nebula and the trapezium quite well with or without the filter. I found the red dot finder worked quite well. I felt safe carrying this scope out through the icy snow....my huge, expensive, go to SCT will be used when there is no snow and ice to contend with. I am waiting for a solar filter to arrive...I think I will view the sun more often since I can carry this scope out in one fell swoop...so far I love this telescope.

[None] Love This Scope,It Gives Great Planetary Views, and Some Deep Space Objects Like The Orion Nebula and Star Clusters Are Amazing,Very Little Fringing Or Chromatic Aberration Around Bright Objects,But If You Want To Image,I Suggest a Stronger Mount,But For Visual,It Works Great
