    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. For two-person podcasts (host and guest), will this mic work well assuming both people are sitting 2-3’ from the mic?

A: That distance will work either from a table top stand or a suspended arm.

Q: 2. I'm gonna use mic to record typing keyboard sound do you thing this or VideoMic Pro Plus works better?

A: The above would depend on the type of keyboard that is being used (the keys of some keyboards are louder than others), as well as the position of the microphone (the distance of the microphone to the keyboard/typist) and the input gain/volume setting of your microphone or camera. Both microphones should work fine for your stated usage needs as long as the microphone is close enough to the keyboard and the gain volume is set correctly. This should be easily managed if your camera or recorder has volume levels or allows you to monitor the sounds recorded by the microphone. Both options listed above a re good microphones and should work for your needs,

Q: 3. can this mic work with phantom power instead of the internal battery?

    A: No

Q: 4. Does this fit the iPhone 5s? Can I get both this and the Bodelin iPad microscope kit and switch the scope between the two sleeves? Thanks!

A: Yes, it would fully work and fit the iPhone 5S.

Q: 5. When this device is on your smart phone, can you take a photo of the enhanced item, by clicking photo on your smart phone?

A: I use my Proscope for closeup inspection of failed components for failure analysis. I use it on my iPhone 5s. You just slide the Proscope onto your cell phone or tablet. Press the Proscope power button for a second or two for the LED lights turn on. Turn on the phone or tablet as normal. Place the Proscope on its lens and feet. It is surprisingly stable arrangement. Launch the standard camera app and the phone's own camera takes photos thru the macro lens assembly. Just tap the phone's screen to pick the auto focus location then click the on screen shutter button. Since you are using the phone's own camera you take photos just like you normally do already. Tips:You will notice the camera will capture the Proscope's plastic frame around the edges of the image. Just zoom in on the camera's screen to eliminate capturing the extra edge. On my iPhone you can also long press the screen and after a second or two the exposure and focus lock so you can spend your time on composition and not on the auto focus trying to get a lock. The manufacturer hints that it has zoom capability but there is no optical zoom in the Proscope. What you are doing is digital zoom which is basically just cropping the image. You can't zoom way out or in like we get accustomed to with cameras these days. I just consider the magnification is fixed. Remember that with any macro lens on any camera the depth of field is very small when you get really close to the lens. Meaning after setting the focus point objects closer to and further from the lens will be out of focus. Well I hope I have answered your questions. I do tend to ramble on and on.

Q: 6. With this work with the 2018 ipad pro that has usb c (with usb c to usb c cable)

A: Yes, it will work with the 2018 iPad Pro. The USB connection on the mic is USB-C. The included USB cable is USB-C to USB-A so you can use a USB-C adapter on the included cable or a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Q: 7. If I have two subjects in one camera shot? Do I need two shotgun mics?

A: Shotgun mics are highly directional and are meant to reduce side noise. If your subjects are stationary and shoulder to shoulder, then one shotgun would probably be ok to capture general speech. If the subjects are stationary, but further apart, then yes you would need two shotguns. If the subjects are moving around in a shot, then the mic would need to be on a boom pole and following the talent.

Q: 8. I just update the firmware and the power button led turn purple and I can’t turn off or on. Any Idea why?

A: Please make sure the mic's battery is charged. If you are still having problems with powering the mic, please contact technical support at Rode. You can reach them by phone at (562) 364-7400. Their US offices are located in Long Beach, California

    Q: 9. Will this work with a Canon VIXIA HF S200 ?

A: Yes, the Rode VideoMic NTG is compatible for use with the Canon VIXIA HF S200.

Q: 10. What size is the screw mount on the bottom? Thank you!

A: Mounting 3/8"-16 Female (for boompole use)

[0.2 lb] I absolutely love this device and my only gripe is it should come with a pocket-size carrying case. I'll make my own out of something from The Container Store for carrying about. Apart from that my child's eye lit up when he saw what it does - just looking at food, flower, birth marks, dollar bills... it's fascinating and I hear there may be even stronger lenses available for it down the road which would be incredible. Up there with video game consoles on the excited-kid front... adults start smiling, as well, when I hand it to a friend to try for the first time. Oh, and you're up and running 10 seconds after you unwrap it - virtually no learning curve.

The unit is light and compact and the sleeve fits the iPhone like a velvet glove. I like it so much I'd even recommended it to competitors!

[0.2 lb] As a retired physician, I am interested in things microscopic and see many applications for a busy doctor in the office in instant inspection of skin lesions and growths among other uses. However, another of my interests is stamp collecting which often requires evaluation of tiny differences between variants or different issues or even counterfeits which may have great differences in valuation. The Proscope Micro Mobile is perfect for my needs and I am so happy to have found it! Also, B&H Photo & Video's service was top notch. Thanks again.

[2.1 oz (60 g)] This mic has all the features you could want for a run and gun shooting setup.
My favorite feature is the duel levels recording, so if you peak on one channel you can just use the other channel.
Another awesome feature is the gain dial on the back of the mic. Great for dialing your audio if something needs adjusted on the fly.
Finally the auto on and off is quite amazing. I no longer have to worry about remembering to turn my mic on, as in the past with other mics I've recorded clips with no audio because of this.
    Great product, RODE!
