The Senal ENG-18RL Omnidirectional Dynamic Microphoneis a broadcast-quality omnidirectional dynamic microphone. The dynamic capsule picks up sound in a 360° pattern and does not require a battery or phantom power, making it a reliable choice for critical field applications. The microphone's exceptionally low handling noise and resistance to wind noise and vocal plosives make it perfect for professional ENG applications like live reporting, interviews, and press conferences.

At multiple areas inside the microphone, natural rubber with special shock-absorbing properties is bonded to carbon steel rings to isolate the sealed inner shell from the outer shell. This system protects the microphone capsule from impacts and inclement weather, and dissipates kinetic energy, dramatically reducing handling noise and resonance due to rustling and knocking.

The microphone also incorporates multistage wind protection to minimize wind noise and vocal plosives. A mesh grille, acoustic foam, acoustic fabric, and another layer of acoustic foam work to diffuse excess sound pressure from wind and breath. A fixed rigid carbon-steel ring with a unique bullet-shaped design disperses breath to minimize vocal plosives.

The EQ curve is tailored for broadcast use, with a gradual low-frequency roll-off to keep out unwanted rumble, a pronounced midrange to ensure speech intelligibility, and a high-frequency roll-off to eliminate hiss and sibilance distortion. Whether broadcasting on television, AM/FM radio, or over the internet, the ENG-18RL is designed to ensure that dialogue cuts through the mix, and can be broadcast live without EQ adjustment.

The ENG-18RL features a durable aluminum-alloy shaft designed for EMI rejection and reduced internal resonance, with a matte black finish for a professional appearance and minimum light reflection. The mic is also long enough to accommodate a mic flag.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the main difference to the long shotgun microphone? Which one is better suitable as an on-camera microphone?

A: The main difference is the option to power the long shotgun mic using a single AA battery or phantom power. The short shotgun mic operates on phantom power only. The mic element, frequency response range, high-pass filter, and specs for sensitivity level, maximum SPL, signal to noise ratio are the same for both mics when using phantom power. For selecting the better on-camera mic, it really depends on the camera that you will be using and whether or not the camera supplies phantom power or if you will be using a separate phantom power supply. If you are using a DSLR, mirrorless camera or handycam with a single 3.5mm mic input, the long shotgun will allow you to connect the mic directly to the camera using an XLR to 3.5mm cable and power the mic with a AA batttery.

Q: 2. Would this mic work for people sitting 4 or 5 feet away? Any idea of the distance this could cover?

A: Yes, the MXBM-621/O can capture audio from people speaking who are 4 to 5 feet apart. The distance for coverage will vary depending on the environment where the mic is being used. The omnidirectional pattern picks up sound from 360 degrees and works best in quiet environments. Mics of this nature are often used for conferences and meetings. The mic is placed in the center of a table and picks up the voices of participants seated around the table.

Q: 3. What wind protection can I use with this?

A: You can find a selection of compatible windshields listed under the "Accessories" tab on the item page. Click on the tab for "Wind Protection" and you'll see items such as the Auray WSS-2018 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones - 18cm (B&H # AUWSS2018), Rycote Standard Hole Softie Windscreen with 19-22mm Hole (B&H # RYS18M), and Rycote 18cm Super-Softie Wind Shield for Shotgun Mics - Standard Hole (B&H # RYSS18M).

Q: 4. When muted, is there a light indicator?

A: Yes, the mute on/off status of the Senal MXBM-621/O MX Series Condenser Boundary Microphone is indicated by a dedicated LED.

Q: 5. How many dB is the front-to-back response?

A: The manufacturer has not provided this information.

Q: 6. Does it need Phantom power?

A: The F112 is a dynamic mic which does not require phantom power to operate.

Q: 7. This is it?

A: Yes

Q: 8. Hello, would like to ask the circumference of the handle for this model? thanks

A: 4.08 circumference.

Q: 9. Will the Senal UB-440 fit a Samson SP01 spider shock mount?

A: it fits, but the headphone jack is blocked by the shockmount.

Q: 10. Is the mic diameter too narrow to fit inside a camera mounted clip? Do I need O-rings for a more snug fit?

A: The Senal MC24-ES does fit in camera mounts such as the Auray DUSM-1 Universal Shockmount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles (B&H # AUDUSM1) which attaches to a camera's shoe mount as has a threaded hole on the bottom which can be used to mount it on a boompole. O-rings would not be need for this type of mount.

[0.755 lb] I got this microphone for on-site audio for a client that wanted people to come up and talk to the camera at random. This mic worked really well with my long XLR cord and was able to pick up great audio of people speaking, even with a DJ speakers playing music just outside where we set up. I also love that it doesn't require power and I can hook it up to my H4 recording device (with XLR cord) and record myself that way. I think it would be a solid mic for entry-level podcasting or voice-over work. Overall, I'm satisfied!

[0.755 lb] I ordered this mic because it was a shure and it was the cheapest I could find. I assumed when I ordered it that it would be a good little mic that I will need to upgrade as soon as possible. I was blown away after making a few recordings and playing back the sound. I have used the mic for over a month and I am extremely satisfied. I have received a few compliments on the sound quality. I plug it directly into my handy cam and it works great for that.

[Mono] Senal's ENG-18RL broadcast quality dynamic microphone lives up to its promise. The mic picks up voices clearly from two or three feet around clearly and evenly. Working on video projects for an organization for adults with developmental disabilities, our interviewers have an array of talents and varied abilities. This microphone simplifies the interview process by eliminating the need to pass the mic back and forth. This allows our interviewers to focus on their other on-air skills. I would recommend this as an excellent mic for entry-level or experienced broadcasters.

[Solid-State] I actually use this microphone more with DJ applications (using an XLR wireless plug-in transmitter) than Interviewing and it work great. I chose the Long handle verses the Regular (which is just personal preference) but quality of either would be the same in my opinion. Sound quality and clarity great and I would buy again as a back-up.

[End Address] Excellent build quality, crystal clear sound. I use this mic for on the street interviews with a mic flag and windscreen plugged into a Tascam DR-40, monitoring audio through headphones. It sounds great!
