Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Nikon D3300, Do I need to buy the PowerTrigger transmitter in order to make the Flash work? Or the sync cord will do the job.

A: I am not familiar with Nikon but I can tell you that the sync cord works with my Canon DSLR. As long as there is an outlet on the side of the camera, which there should be, it should work fine.

Q: 2. what is the power source?

A: The lights include a 120VAC power cord which is a regular USA household plug.

Q: 3. My flash tube broke. Is that covered in the one year warranty ?

A: Unfortunately, the warranty for this monolight only covers defects in the unit as a whole. It does not cover lamps.

Q: 4. What is the maximum watt light you can use?

A: These monolights can only except a modeling lamp up to 60 watts. The strobes themselves offer 100 watt/sec of power on each.

Q: 5. Are these lights tungsten or daylight ( 5500K). Can I use my Nikon on auto white or have to balance?

A: Strobe lights are typically daylight-balanced. You would either use the daylight-balanced or flash-balanced white balance preset on your camera, or you would use the Custom White Balance setting to set a custom white balance. Auto White Balance is not recommended for strobe usage.

Q: 6. How many strobes. How many soft boxes in the kit.? Modeling lights?

A: This kit would include two Impact EX 100 monolights, two softboxes with speed rings, two sync cables, two power cords, flashtube/modeling lamp for each head, a reflector for each head, spare fuses for each head, Impact 8 ft light stands and a 1 year warranty on each head. The only thing not included in this kit is a bag.

Q: 7. Will this strobe work with 3rd party modifiers, or only the supplied softboxes?

A: That model strobe uses the Elinchrom mount also called EX. There are a few different manufactures that make modifiers with that mount, Elinchrom, Impact and Interfit. Note to be careful when picking it out that it is the correct mount. Impact and Interfit make different mounts not just EX.

Q: 8. Can these lights be on for a full shoot, or are they flash/strobe only? Looking to purchase something inexpensive for filming purpose, and won't need the flash setting.

A: You could use the modeling lights for filming but it's probably cheaper to just by led modeling lights with more wattage. I think the modeling lights on this kit is about 60 watts. Modeling lights are used to see the lighting and to help your camera focus on the subject.

Q: 9. Are there also soft boxes included?(:

A: Comes with two soft boxes. I bought with two umbrellas as well, which I used shooting 141 head and shoulders photos on my first assignment. Everything but the synch cord worked perfectly.

Q: 10. I have set this up and use an on-camera flash to trip the two lights BUT I am NOT able to vary the output of the flash. I dial from full to 1/8 but only the modeling light varies in intensity. Am I doing something wrong?Lucian

A: Just to be sure - when reducing flash power, you must dump the flash first and then measure power. This means if the flash is at full power and you reduce it to an 1/8, you must first fire a flash to dump the power out of the flash capacitors and reduce their charge to an 1/8 and then measure your flash output. If the flash remains at full for a 3rd and 4th shot, then it may be faulty.

[Standard] We installed this in a rehabbed church space that's now a contemporary art gallery flush mounted it to an exposed beam and it looks and works great. That said, it's only been about a week, so maybe I'll report back later if I have any complaints! I was surprised that, for its length, there are only 2 mounting holes on either end, so I fear that it may sag over time. But again, too soon to tell. Where it does mount in those 2 places, it's on a solid plastic end cap/brace, so it seems like it will hold up well. It weighs about 85 pounds, so we had 3 people to install. We had to go about 17 feet up to the beam, we leveled, marked and pre-drilled & drove lag bolts into the beam and then used two extension ladders on either side to climb and carefully slide the projection screen/case up on the ladder's rails. Our 3rd person was on a 10ft ladder in the middle and was there as a spotter for extra support. It was then quite easy to hook it on to the lag bolts once we slid it to the top. All in all, it's an easy install, we opened the box and had the job done in less than 4 hours. Just be sure you have the wiring supplies and the proper mounting hardware and you'll have no problem!

[Standard] The screen was simple to mount (we used lag bolts and attached the screen to a wall.) The screen did not come with instructions on how to install the switch for a 120v motor...complicated the electrical install was inconsistent wire colors on the switch and the screen. After consulting an electrician and enduring his derision for working with this product - he correctly intuited the correct wiring configuration. A big thanks to the customer service at B&H. We ordered the screen 2 weeks from a graduation. The shipper lost the screen for nearly a week, without informing us. I contacted the shipper, who responded with a long distance shoulder shrug - explaining they would look for it again. Unable to motivate the shipper, I called B&H - they got involved, and the screen was in my driveway 36 hours later. Thanks B&H.

[Yes] This Screen was easy to install. It took 3 people and 2 ladders to get the job done. The remote is really not needed but i opted to install it as well. The motor runs really smooth. The screen is nice and wide. A really good buy.

[Yes] We use the screen in our church sanctuary once or twice a month. Installing it was an adventure with the weight and length, but several sections of scaffolding and a couple friends made the install move along nicely. The instructions for wiring were right on and it worked first try! The image is right on and visible the entire length of our viewing area (over 100').
