Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you recommend the 200 or the 140 for a Sony A7III with a 16-35 2.8? thanks

A: In my honest opinion, there is not much disadvantage to having a longer nodal rail in case you get a longer lens in the future and need more room for correcting for parallax. While we haven't tested this combination ourselves, from looking at the camera + lens combination I think in this case 140mm should just about work.

Q: 2. Can the sliding backstop be anchored in place?

A: You can tighten it down to hold it in place.

Q: 3. What is maximum weight limit on this? Planning to mount a setp upto 6lb total. Also, can i attach camera directly to the rail?

A: This can support 6lbs and more. The load limit is more dependent on the head and legs than the actual rail. The DPG 3016R is a solid rail.

Q: 4. Can I use this QR plate on a Wimberley Gimbal MH-200 II with a long telephoto lens (Canon FD 800mm F5.6 L + Camera)?

A: Yes, the Sunwayfoto DPG-210R Multi-Purpose Rail will fit the FD800mm f/5.6L. And you can use that on the Wimberley Gimbal MH-200 II head.

Q: 5. Does this have a threaded hole in the end?

A: Yes, it actually has several. A single 1/4x20 (I think) and two 1/8 . I don't have a screw guage so I can say exactly what the dimensions are but something standard. There are several other places on the rail with threaded holes making it pretty flexible. A great multi-purpose rail. I use it with my Sony A7R and a6000 combined with telephoto lenses to make stable setup on tripod, reduce shutter shake, etc

Q: 6. Does the center of the bubble level line up with the center of the threaded hole at the bottom?

A: Yes, the center of the bubble level lines up with the center of the threaded hole at the bottom.

Q: 7. Will this easily hold a medium format camera with a bigger lens (80-160 zoom)? How much weight can it handle, given that the weight has a little bit of leverage, being back from the center of gravity?

A: I've used this rail to support a Swarovski 95mm spotting scope w/65x straight mag and focus module,70-200mm Canon lens and a Tamron 150-600mm lens with no problems at all. The rail is double edged quite strong. I have purchased three of these and love the quality. I don't think you will have a problem with amedium format camera at all. If you are still concerned you could always mate two of the rails together. But, I think that would be a little over kill. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. Specifications list a "1/4x20 mounting screw". This is the female mounting screw hole for mounting to a tripod . . . correct?

A: The Sunwayfoto DMP-200R Multi-Purpose Rail Nodal Slide does have 1/4"-20 sockets for mounting to a tripod but also includes a 1/4"-20 mounting screw.

Q: 9. Can I use this rail with the Really Right Stuff ball head?

A: Yes, this rail is compatible with Really Right Stuff ballheads.

Q: 10. Can this device be used with the combo SunwayFoto Rotating Panning Base and Clamp to add Nodal Point Capability for panoramas?

A: Yes.

[0.45 lb] We needed a second rail and decided to go low budget. To our surprise it is as functional as our RRS rail.

[4.7 oz / 132 g] This nodal rail is every bit as good as the higher price models from other companies.

[4.7 oz / 132 g] Solid quality although not much can go wrong with a simple rail

[4.7 oz / 132 g] I bought a 600 mm Cannon diffractive optics RF lens for use with my R5 camera. Unfortunately, that lens lacks a lens collar and has only one screw hole for attachment to a tripod or a plate. That hole is way too far forward to balance on a gimble or tilting head. The lens is too light to hand hold steadily. Also, it will not focus closely enough to take pictures of small-to-medium birds without defeating the purpose of a long telephoto. This requires the use of extension tubes to compensate. I tried attaching various lens plates to the lens in hopes of correcting the balance problem for use with a gimble head on a steady monopod, but none were long enough. Hence, I ordered the Sunwayfoto CPG-210 in hopes of facilitating use with the gimble. Finally, I was able to achieve balance; however it requires considerable strain on the attachment screw to get it tight enough to hold, given the lack of a second screw.

While this fix renders that lens amenable to use with a gimble head, I would recommend to others that they buy Canon' s 800 mm RF lens instead. It is cheaper to achieve 800 mm than the 600 mm, since the Canon 1.4 teleconverter is way to expensive, and at f/11 the 800 mm is a stop faster and and focusses more quickly than the 600 mm with tele-conversion. Also, it's somewhat heavier, making it easier to hand hold and not requiring such a long plate to balance it on a tripod head. (The collapsibility of the heads is useless, since the length of the plates, and the attachment of extension tubes renders the combination substantially longer than the collapsed lenses are anyway.)

[0.45 lb] What can you say about a rail? The positions of the slots and tapped holes are just right for attaching other Sunway items such as indexing rotators. It comes with a variety of screws for mounting multiple devices. It's strong, nicely finished, and does whatever job you need.

[0.45 lb] Another great Sunwayphoto product. Very well made and etched with distances so certain set-ups can be easily repeated. Excellent! I use it with my Acra Swiss head and it works great!
