The Radial Bassbone OD 2-Channel Bass Preampfrom Radial Bassbone OD 2-Channel Bass Preampis a bass preamp with two instrument input channels, each of which is fully equipped with a level control, a passive-interactive EQ, and a low-frequency filter to help eliminate resonance. Channel-A is equipped with a PZB booster switch that increases the sensitivity and load to 10 MOhms to optimize it for use with piezo transducers as commonly used on upright bass. Channel-B is equipped with Drag Control load correction to optimize the tone and feel when using a passive instrument such as a vintage Fender bass. Toggling between channels is done using a footswitch. When using a dual pickup system, both channels may be mixed together by depressing the blend switch. Outputs include a 1/4" instrument level output to feed the artist's on-stage amplifier, plus a balanced low-Z Radial DI box output to feed the PA system. The XLR output can be assigned pre or post effects to suit your preference. A separately buffered tuner output works with the mute footswitch for quiet on-stage tuning.

If you use effects, both input channels can share the same pedals by connecting via the built-in send & receive effects loop. This is augmented with an on-board bass overdrive with control over the drive level and tone. The OD footswitch may be assigned to the loop, overdrive, or both. The Bassbone also features a built-in headphone amp with 3.5mm output.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this unit accept a direct microphone feed from a press conference without a mult box? And is it powered by batteries?

A: The Radial Engineering Exo-Pod Broadcast Splitter with XLR & 3.5mm Connections is designed to accept a balanced line-level signal from a mixer or similar device. It does not require power.

Q: 2. Could this unit be used to split clearcom or rts units?

A: This unit is meant to split audio only, and is wired differently than communication systems. We do carry a splitter for RTS, which is the Telex TW-5W 1 In, 5 Out Splitter Box, B&H # TETW5W.

Q: 3. 70 mm size, would it work on my 2 lenses with filter sizes are 77 and 62 mm or should I also buy the smaller size?

A: For use on a 77 mm filter size , we recommend the DayStar Filters 90mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 85-99mm OD) B&H # DAULF90 90mm = 3.54331 inches. 77 mm = 3.0315 70 mm = 2.75591 inches. 62 mm = 2.44094 inches.

Q: 4. I have a 24-120 mm using a 77 mm filter. The lens hood diameter is 110 mm. Should I use the lens hood during the eclipse?

A: It is a matter of opinion but I would recommend using the hood always. Even if the sun is directly in the frame and the hood cannot stop the flares, the hood still provides safety protection in case the camera is dropped. Since the Daystar filter is not large enough for the hood, this screw on ND filter can be used for solar protection instead: https://bhpho.to/2m7h8oX

Q: 5. Does this unit work standalone or does it have to be used with the Broadcast Press Box?

A: This broadcast audio splitter can be used a stand-alone unit, and only requires a balanced XLR input from a mixing board or other source. .

Q: 6. What would be the best size for a Nikon 18-200 lens? The current screw-on filter is 72mm.

A: Measure diameter at end of lens with out a lenscap. See specs for this filter and see if it slides over your lens.

Q: 7. Are these left over from 2017? That's the date on the product photo.

A: The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 65-89mm OD), that B&H offers are not left overs at all.

Q: 8. Can I use this to take photos of the sun for practice of the upcoming solar eclipse?

A: Yes. The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter can be used for solar photography with or without an eclipse.

Q: 9. Will I need this to take picture of the eclipse with my Sony A99?

A: Absolutely! All cameras risk (will sustain) light sensor damage when imaging the Sun without a proper filter with the exception of the 2 minutes or so of totality of a total eclipse. This only takes place in the ribbon of totality which during the upcoming Aug. 21st event will be only 70 miles or so wide and at very specific times per location.

Q: 10. What size should I get for a lens using a 77mm filter, Canon 100-400?

A: Get the 65-89mm OD (outside diameter). I have a 77mm lens and it fits perfectly.

[14-gauge steel] Like all Radial products this until could survive just about anything. The ability to select which mics are active, flip the phase and adjust the individual levels make this an invaluable tool for mic-ing tom toms top and bottom.

[0.05% @ -15 dBu] This channelstrip sounds amazing on any sound, especially on vocals. The de-esser works better than any plugin and is perfect to control unwanted sibilance when tracking. Wow, just buy one...

[-100 dB] After many hours of reading reviews of Turntable preamps I decided on the J33 for several reasons. 1) Radial has an outstanding reputation with live sound and recording engineers. 2) One of the only units with XLR (Balanced) outputs. I'm using this with a Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable. Connected the L/R RCA outputs of the J33 into a Harmon Kardon amplifier for listening through Klipsch Forte speakers. The L/R XLR outputs into Presonus AI24 Mixer. The Presonus is connected to a Mac running Pro Tools. Main purpose of this is to allow conversion of vinyl (not available commercially in digital format) to digital format with Pro Tools in my recording studio. The meters in Pro Tools show almost -inf noise floor with the J33. That is very impressive. There literally is no audible hum from the J33 or the Linn. The J33 is also built like a tank. Very happy with my choice and would highly recommend this device for anyone wanting to add a preamp to their turntable.

[-92 dBu at XLR] For the price, this is an unbelievable product. The tone is clean and smooth, the conversion is great, the ADAT output is simple, the whole thing is rugged and takes up only 1 rack space. The tone won't change your life or solve all your problems but I haven't found another product that gives you 8 channels for anywhere near this price.

[85 dB] ... This is the unit you need. For that deep, rich and smooth like butter voice. But apply it carefully! Like eye makeup, the right amount enhances, beautifies and seduces. But too much or the wrong color, and yikes! Things get pretty awful in a hurry. And the Channel Master really is that, a cosmetic treatment to enhance the character and timbre of your voice. Feed it first with a top-notch microphone. A great fit for my post-production voiceovers is the EV RE27. Then lightly, gently apply the Channel Master's effects. Like a chef adds a dash of spice to boost flavor, but not so much that the food itself is overshadowed. It is easy to overdo it with the Channel Master... if a little bit of Big Bottom or the Aural Exciter sounds nice, then a little more will sound even better, right? No, no. A gentle touch is the key. Take your time, keep adjustments subtle... and when you're done and ready to mix, you will be astounded by the quality and clarity that the Channel Master has enabled. I run it via A/SPIDF into an RME Fireface UCX which serves Word Clock and routes firewire into my Mac and Adobe Audition. I've been doing voiceovers for TV and radio for 40 years, and I've used all the gear and tried all the tricks. This lashup is clean, simple and the best I've ever heard, and helps make me today the best I've ever sounded. Meanwhile, B&H is marvelous, I've always found their service, advice and price to be the best.

[+10 dBu at XLR] This box was the perfect solution to passively sum two channels of audio into mono. Although they were not needed in my situation, the unit also provides two potentiometers that will allow you to mix two channels into one. The unit is constructed in a sturdy box. The controls feel solid and the unit delivers what is needed.

[14-gauge steel] I wanted to add pre's to my saffire pro 40 and I didn't want the same kind of pre's I already had with my interface. So I went with these tube pre's. I really like them on Drums, they really add a kind of presence, more life to the drums, compared with the pre's on the saffire. For stuff like dialogues or voiceovers I think they are a bit too coloured tho, and the noise floor is quite high. But I really like them on loud sources. I am looking to change the tubes for high quality ECC83 soon to reduce noise floor. This is really cheap and a real good value. They add 8 pre's with one adat cable to my saffire pro 40, so I can carry my rack anywhere and record drums or a full band with 16 inputs. Really versatile. There's also 8 analogue balanced output, which is nice.

[20 Hz - 18 kHz] Signals from the Mac computer to the audio mixer sometimes had hum and/or were overdriving. This little 2:1 combiner took care of all the issues. We later bought a second one to use with our portable camera rig to clean up audio from various audio systems we would plug into. It does the job.

[85 dB] I have purchased several turntable pre-amps and they lasted a short while. This one is substantial and audio reference. I expect it to last a long, long time. Excellent sound reproduction.
