With 24TB of storage, the DriveStation Quad USB 3.0 provides a reliable, easy to use storage solution to quickly expand the capacity of your PC and Mac computers with universal USB 3.0 plug-and-play.

DriveStation Quad features four 6TB high performance hard drives optimized for continuous 24/7/365 operation with enhanced RAID performance.

DriveStation Quad USB 3.0 is perfect for backing up your important files. The DriveStation Quad features one free license of NovaBACKUP Business Essentials for Windows PCs and servers and Time Machine support for backing up Mac computers.

DriveStation Quad provides users the flexibility to easily maximize capacity or protect their data using RAID redundancy.
RAID 0
Combine all drives into a single array offering maximum storage capacity with no redundancy.
RAID 1
Mirrors the four drives, creating an exact copy of data on each drive for fault tolerance.
RAID 5
Stripe the data across all four drives, interspersing parity data to provide an efficient blend of fault tolerance and storage capacity.
RAID 10
Mirror two sets of hard drives and combines them into a single array, striping data across all mirrored sets for fault tolerance and increased performance.

DriveStation Quad's hot-swap feature allows you to replace a hard drive in the event of failure without powering down the device. Simply remove the defective drive, insert the new drive, and the data rebuilds while still being available to clients on the network with zero downtime.

Buffalo Tools is a feature-rich suite of software included with Buffalo DriveStation Quad. Any or all of the following components of Buffalo Tools may be installed on Windows PCs.

  • Buffalo's Backup Utility is for Windows PCs and can be used to back up one or multiple computers with a single Buffalo external hard drive.
  • eco Manager is an energy efficiency tool used to conserve energy and reduce battery consumption by regulating the power usage of the hard drive, cutting power to the drive during extended periods of inactivity.
  • TurboPC includes two components to enhance file transfer performance with external hard drives. It also includes TurboCopy that provides additional system adjustments to increase performance substantially.
  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a way to use this as a sing unit as a 8TB drive (with no redundancy)?

A: Yes, the Glyph Technologies StudioRAID can be used in RAID0 mode to have full access to the 8TB capacity. The unit comes preconfigured this way.

Q: 2. Can I remove Raid 0 hard drives from this array without losing data? And keep it as back up then reuse later whenever I want?

A: The only way to remove a RAID 0 array while keeping the data intact is to remove both of the drives together, and then when you want to access the data again, both drives would need to be placed back inside together. This however is not recommended.

Q: 3. will this drive work with a single firewire800? I have an older mac book pro and iMac both pre2012? Is it backwards compatible with USB 2.0?

A: Yes and yes. You shouldn't have any problem running the drive with either Firewire 800 or USB 2.0, although, if I remember correctly, the Firewire 800 should be much faster and help take advantage of the available read and write speed offered in RAID 0.Peter

Q: 4. Can I plug two macbooks into this and edit off both of them at the same time from the two USB-C ports?

A: No, the SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 96TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 24TB) can only be used with one computer at a time.

Q: 5. Does this drive require reformatting for Windows? I'm using Win10.

A: The drive is preformatted for Mac so reformatting is required for Windows.

Q: 6. Do these units have fans? How to the drives stay cool?

A: Yes, there is an internal fan in this item.

Q: 7. Do I need a backup replacement drive available in case one of the 4 drives fails so I can do a fast recovery to full operations? If so what would I order?

A: It is always best to have a spear drive just in case. This Buffalo DriveStation Quad 24TB 4-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Array (4 x 6TB) would be able to support the Buffalo 6TB 3.5" HDD found here ---- https://bhpho.to/3slXbMY .BH #BUOPHD60QH • MFR #OP-HD6.0QH

Q: 8. Will "Asustor 6404T NAS" see this My book Duo 12TB by direct connect it to the NAS via USB?

A: The 6404T can use a external USB drive for backups. It is covered on page 64 of the manual http://bit.ly/2AZUB4W.

Q: 9. How do you power off the drive?

A: I would suggest to safely remove the Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0 External Desktop Hard Drive by disconnecting it on the computer.

Q: 10. can it be attached to the modem as a backup device ?

A: No this would not work.

[14.35 lb] In RAID 5 configuration, this drive does the job of archiving my images. It is so quiet that you hardly know it is operating. So far, very happy with its performance.

[14.35 lb] Drive worked nicely. The RAID utility was minimal and easy to use.

[90 W] I've had my Buffalo 4TB up and running for 2-weeks now and it functions as specified. Thanks B&H; your service was excellent!

[90 W] Could not have been easier to set up. Loved the software package. Again, easy to use and understand. Comes with raid already to go. If you are looking for a device to safely back up your important files, this is the one you want. Fast access as well.

[90 W] The setup was quick and easy (Raid 5 out of the box), drive speeds seem good. I have this attached to a media PC to play HD/4K material to a projector and it's handling that with zero problems (serves as storage for my Plex server). It gets moved back and forth between PC's frequently and no issues with that either. When I fill it up I plan on getting a second one assuming no issues crop up.

[90 W] Changing RAID modes on this box in quick and painless with the included RAID configuration utility. The device includes backup software but I prefer to use Macrium Reflect. In RAID 0 mode the drive can easily sustain over 120 MB (mega BYTEs not megabits) per second on a capable hosted server over USB 3.0 It is likely even faster over USB 3.1. When I outgrow this I will be buying a newer larger version starting with Buffalo's products. The B & H purchase was awesome as usual!
