Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you use 4x4 filters in this matte box?

A: This Matte Box is designed for 4 x 5.65" filters. It will not hold a 4 x 4 filter.

Q: 2. Is there a 80mm to 114mm ring for this mattebox?

A: There is no 80mm to 114mm ring for the SHAPE Swing-Away Matte Box.

Q: 3. can you remove the swing away arm and use it as clamp on matte box?

A: Yes, the Wooden Camera Zip Box Pro 4 x 5.65" Matte Box (Swing-Away) can be converted to a clamp-on matte box using an interchangeable back, such as the Wooden Camera Clamp-On Back for Zip Box Pro 4 x 5.65" Matte Box (80mm), B&H # WO267600.

Q: 4. Does the 87mm clamp-on fit with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E?

A: No, the Wooden Camera Zip Box Pro 4 x 5.65" Matte Box (87mm, Clamp-On) will not fit around the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E's 87.8mm outer diameter. Instead, I recommend using a mate box that can mount to the lens using the lenses 82mm front filter thread.

Q: 5. what is a difference between swing away version and buying separately (basic+swing away)?

A: The Swing Away configuration includes an attachment that allows the matte box to swing out from it's fixed position. The Base configuration is static and attaches to 15mm rods.

Q: 6. Is there a way to have a rotating pola stage with this matte box?

A: Yes, please review our new Zip Box Pro 4.5in Round Filter Stage.

Q: 7. I have a canon 2.0 lens with a 95mm thread. I purchased the 95mm flexible adapter ring that fits into this matte box BUT shape doesn't sell a 95mm threaded adapter ring to go on the lens itself. What adapter ring would work so my lens can connect securely into the matte box?

A: Please review the following item in order tp accommodate you 95mm thread size lens. Wooden Camera Zip Box Pro 4 x 5.65 Swing-Away Reduction Rings BH #WO267400 • MFR #267400 https://bhpho.to/3iKTteE SmallRig 95 to 114mm Threaded Adapter Ring for Matte Box BH #SM2661 • MFR #2661 https://bhpho.to/3W56Ft0

Q: 8. Does this matte box also take 4 x 4" filters?

A: The filter slots of the Zip Box Pro will hold a 4x4 filter, but may not completely cover the lens. If you have been using 4x4 filters on your current lenses with adequate coverage they should function similarly.

Q: 9. Is the box's height adjustable (via the swing away arm)?

A: Yes, the height is adjustable through the swing away bracket.

Q: 10. Does it take Diopters?

A: The bellows ring included in this kit integrates a 138mm slot for round polarizers. If you are mounting the diopter directly to your lens, you may then use the appropriate clamp-on ring that accommodates the front diameter of the lens.

[0.825 lb] Ok first off, B&H kinda vets their stuff so I wasn't heistatant to take a chance on this matt box. Upon opening I was surprised for I was expecting a product of way lesser quality. All this thing needs to do is hold filters and block a direct hit from the sun from hitting the lens. I trust that it can do just that and for under a hundred bucks!

Also i was surprised at it's ample tooling making it possible to remove the top and side flags if needed, which will be a plus for me for I'm trying to build my rig as light as possible for handheld / gimbal use.

I didn't want to spend 500-700 on something like PolarPro base kit. I compared weights between their Base Camp and this thing here with the top flag and a filter. The Cavision came in at about 40grams heavier which is about the same weight as two 77mm plastic Canon lens caps. At this price i'll buy two and keep a spare.

This thing has dual filter stages one of which rotates and the holders features a compression spring tab based mech to hold them snug. I mean com'on!!

And I never usually write reviews on stuff because really, who has the time?

[11.1 x 7.9 x 3"] I also have a smaller good matte box from Genus, but I love this carbon fiber mattebox from Lanparte. It can be used with a wide range of lenses from CP PL to DSLR lenses with a lot of diameter adaptors (donuts) included as well as a nun's jacket. All articulations are precisely engineered. Can be adjusted quickly in length and height to fit many configurations. I use it with a Black Magic Cinema Camera, a Nikon D800 and a GH4 with either a Sigma 18-35 or a Sony professional B4 zoom. Not a cheap one, but stands the quality of Chrossziel with a more reasonable tag. All knobs are positionned at the right place and the filter trays are very solid and handy.

[0.825 lb] Well made from good materials, fits well on my rig, and I really like the swing away option when changing lenses and so forth. The hard case is a nice bonus as well.

[11.1 x 7.9 x 3"] Here is a real matte box. The right size and weight for small modern cameras. There are, to be fair, a couple of small annoyances, but they are easily overcome with some minor engineering. Considering that no two camera systems are identical, Cavision has done a great job. Two filter slots are enough (one rotates), the flags are fine and work well. Donuts would be good, but can be made; the nun's knickers are OK for most lenses. I had used this on a shoot, loved it, bought one...and will by another...

[0.825 lb] I had to exchange the first one I received due to a manufacturing default, the replacement is excellent. Really excellent quality, feels comparable to the Arri matte boxes I've used extensively in the past, but at a fraction of the price. Note that it does come with both nuns knickers and fixed doughnut rings for a variety of lens sizes. My only complaint would be that it's slightly heavier than expected (given the carbon fibre), but no more so that other professional solutions.

[0.825 lb] I recently bot this a couple of weeks ago. I used it on a shoot and it worked amazingly. For its price, it really helped with getting out shadows and getting rid of any unwanted light just like any other Matte box but simply for cheaper. Whilst it functions extremely well, something that is annoying about is that I had to buy a step up ring so that it could fit onto my camera which cost another $15 but it was completely worth it. I would recommend it to anyone who is currently in the first stages of learning how to rig out cameras as it really helps people learn about the usefulness of Matte Boxes

[0.825 lb] I wanted to be able to change lenses without removing my matt box, this filled the bill. I believe it's overpriced considering the materials and design, but if you really need or want something enough, you pay.

[0.825 lb] Well designed and well constructed. Thoughtful, considerate and nimble.
Beyond the quality of this one product I'd like to note how great this company is. I recently had a camera hit the ground on set. Shape didn't just respond to my email and sell me the henge that took the brunt of the fall, they called me, two or three times. They wanted to make sure they got me what I needed, not more, in a timely manner. Their attention and concern has made a fan into a loyal costumer for life.
