Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Pentax Kis offering photographers the first native option to get started in the world of wide-angle macro photography with the Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens, available here for full-frame Pentax K-mount cameras. Before now, wide-angle macro required the use of extension tubes and other workarounds, but now the Laowa 15mm Macro offers true 1:1 magnification without the hassle. The ultra-wide perspective on full-frame cameras allows users to get exceptionally close to their subjects with a minimum focus distance of just 4.7", and have them fill the frame, while still capturing the background for more informative scenes. Internal focusing further assists by not disturbing your subject, even when you reach the 0.2" minimum working distance.

Optically, it is designed to minimize distortion that plagues wide-angle lenses with the use of an advanced 12 element in 9 group construction with one extra-low dispersion and three high-refractive elements. A multi-layer low-reflective coating further improved image quality by reducing the appearance of flare and ghosting. Also, when used on APS-C cameras, or in crop modes, the lens offers +/- 6mm of vertical shift which can help correct for perspective when shooting objects such as buildings.

Full manual operation is required with this lens through the use of a physical aperture ring with a range of f/4 to f/32 and a large focusing ring. A flat front element provides room for a 77mm front filter thread for using a selection of specialized filters to enhance your scene. Additionally, it has a near circular 14-blade diaphragm for smooth out of focus elements and comes with a lens hood.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I just opened the box and the focus ring won't budge. What am I doing wrong or is it diffective?

A: Hi Coreen! Be aware that this lens is manual focus only and won't autofocus due to lack of lens-camera links and contacts, the same applies to the aperture settings, camera won't autoexpose or auto-adjust apertures, it's back to basics... Otherwise the focusing ring should turn when operated manually, if not, then the lens is deffective.

Q: 2. Is this TOTALLY manual, i.e. - no info at all translated to the camera? If so, how do you know what shutter speed to set at any given aperture with no exposure info? Thanks.

A: This lens is pretty much all manual, however, the camera can still read light coming into the sensor so you could still adjust your settings accordingly.

Q: 3. Hi there, what is the shipping price/cost to Belgium?

A: You may calculate your actual shipping options/order totals by adding the items you want to a shopping cart. It will then list the shipping options, descriptions, ETA's and fees to your location.

Q: 4. I'm getting silhouetting in some of my pics. None of the customer photos on this page show it. How do i get rid of it?

A: Do you mean a vignette? Can you share a sample? With macro you really need fill light.

Q: 5. Is it good to go on Sony 6000 Emount?

A: Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro lens for Sony E will be compatible with the Sony a6000 camera, yes.

Q: 6. This lens should be compatible with the Nikon D3500, correct? Manual focus of course.

A: Yes Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Nikon F is compatible with the Nikon D3500.

Q: 7. Can the shift only go along one axis (say, left-right when in landscape mode) or is there an internal rotation to let it also shift up-down (while still in landscape)?

A: It only allows up/down in Landscape mode, no rotation. Also the shift does not work with full frame sensors, part of the image corners will be cropped.

Q: 8. In the picture, it looks like an adapter is attached, does it require an adapter for Sony E?

A: No, it comes attached with the adapter. There are a few different versions sop make sure to select the correct one.

Q: 9. Would this be the best macro option for the Sony a6500?

A: If you are looking for a wide angle macro lens for use on the Sony E-mount lens mount, then yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E would be my recommendation as the best option for your usage needs on the Sony Alpha a6500 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 10. Would the lens shift mode work better when using an A7Rii camera if the the camera were set to crop frame (aps-c) mode? Am I also correct to assume that I would not need to be as close to the subject?

A: You may use the APS-C crop mode while using the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro Lens for Sony E, but as this is a full-frame lens designed for full-frame sensors, the lens will not work better when set to APS-C mode; the lens will work identical as when using the full sensor, but in APS-C mode, you would simply not get as wide as a view and you would have a smaller maximum resolution due to the smaller frame crop size. While you will still have 6mm, it may appear less as you would not be viewing the lens' full angle of view. Regardless on if the camera is set to full-frame or APS-C mode, the lens' minimum focus distance is 4.72 (12 cm). The distance you are from the subject would simply change the perspective of your view of the subject slightly.

[f/32] This lens makes great images! It's a bit heavy, but very sturdy. The manual focus means the photographer has to do a little more work to get a desired image- there's a learning curve if you've gotten used to auto focus, but it's fun to experiment, and having control over what's sharp and what's not, without the constant readjusting of an auto focus lens, is a real pleasure. Very nice lens, plus a filter and a padded storage bag.

[Full-Frame] Once I got used to using it, which didn't take long, I realized nothing else can do what this lens can. Hopefully in the future there's an even better mark ii version for mirrorless mounts.

[f/4] I love this lens. It really gives crisp, sharp pics. I am not used to a manual focus lens so that took a minute. But once I watched a few videos and figured out the auto focus, I fell in love! I highly recommend this lens to anyone who shoots macro! It is affordable, great build quality with stunning results! I have only been using a camera (other than my iphone) for about three months. I watched some reviews on this lens, and it doesn't disappoint. Just buy it! You won't regret it.

[Full-Frame] I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this lens. But it has been a very pleasant surprise. It is very sharp. It is totally manual, which is fine since this goes back to my early days shooting, 60 years ago. It is not pre-set either. I am very please with it across the board.

[Pentax K] Had a canon 24-70F4 with a macro feature that was allright, but I prefer this one, gets in much closer for flower photography and bugs.

It's got a nice all metal feel to it, and it came with a filter on the front as well.

Don't let the fact that this is chinese made deter you from considering this lens!

[Pentax K] I primarily shoot still life product in studio and wanted something that offered a different perspective than the typical 100mm macro. The lens, when used in a macro setting, can be difficult to get good looking images, but if you take the time to compose and light properly, you can achieve really interesting sizes and angles The build of the lens is very solid and for the price, it's definitely something fun to use.

[1x] Until you've shot with a wide angle macro lens like this one, you are missing some opportunities for real creativity. I love the quality of this lens and the resulting images and would highly recommend!
