Reversible fabric features a matte black side and an unbleached muslin side.

Opaque matte black fabric helps to control light, prevent light spill, and create shadows on a scene or subject. It is also suitable for use as a flag or barndoor for larger light sources.

Unbleached muslin side can be used to subtly reflect light onto subjects without affecting the color temperature of the scene in order to maintain a natural appearance.

Touch fastener lining permits quick installation and removal from 4 x 6' Scrim Jim Cine frames.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any way to mount this to a C-stand?

A: No. Not really. But you can easily get a cine clamp with a 5/8” stud for a rock steady hold.

Q: 2. Can the muslin side be painted for use as a background?

A: Ryan, The muslin is a very loosly threaded fabric and it is likely paint would bleed through affecting the Black Fabric. Therefore I would not suggest painting the muslin side of this fabric.

Q: 3. Curious when is grid cloth better than plain cloth? Understand the difference but seeking the why. Thanks.

A: Grid cloth diffuses the light while making it more directional versus standard diffusion which simply spreads the light as needed.

Q: 4. Can you Iron out the wrinkles/ folds ? what power ? thank you

A: Yes, the Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Unbleached Muslin/Black Fabric (4 x 4') can be ironed at a low setting with a towel between the product and the iron, treat the fabric gently.

Q: 5. I have a 6x6 Scrim Jim how do I tell if it is the old or new version? And will this fit if I have the old version?

A: Great question, William. The old version of Scrim Jim used 3/4" thick framing and the frames connected to each other using a tension fit. The new version (Scrim Jim Cine) uses a thicker 1" frame and connects using a positive locking system. The new system also has corners that are NOT built into the frame, like they were in the original version. The sizing of diffusion silks are not the same for the new version, as we standardized the sizing to what is common in the industry for the Scrim Jim Cine lineup.

Q: 6. I'm failing to see the usefulness of the tan Muslin subtle reflection side. How useful is that side?

A: Stephen, The muslin is one Westcott option. The muslin fabric can reflect a diffused light quality with a slight warming onto your subject. For a less diffused more efficient reflector with no warming choose the silver/white a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?InitialSearch=yes&N=0&Ntt=scrim+jim+cine+4+x+4+silver&sts=ma target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?InitialSearch=yes&N=0&Ntt=scrim+jim+cine+4+x+4+silver&sts=ma/a Or for less diffusion with slightly more warming use the sunlight side of the Westcott silver/sunlight a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1174958-REG/westcott_1984_scrim_jim_cine_sunlight_silver.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1174958-REG/westcott_1984_scrim_jim_cine_sunlight_silver.html/a It all depends on your vision.

Q: 7. Is the 1-1/4 stop fabric thick enough to beam a small source light into it, and not have a hotspot? I'd like to use an Astra 6X at around 4ft away to result in a large even light source

A: That should be a good distance to get a even light onto the diffuser and not have a hotspot.

Q: 8. What stands and connectors are recommended for this frame?

A: For a Scrim Jim Cine that is 6' by 6', a lot of people prefer to use two light stands with grip heads (Westcott part #1881) and Scrim Jim Frame Clamps (Westcott Part #1980) on each stand. If you want to use a single light stand, we recommend a heavy duty C-Stand with the same grip and clamp noted above as well as some sand bags for the base of the C-Stand.

Q: 9. Will this fit the classic less robust "non-cine" 6x6 scrim jim?

A: No, this Scrim Jim fabric is only for the Scrim Jim Cine frame.

Q: 10. does it come with the frame? or is it only the fabric?

A: This would be the fabric alone. The frame would be the Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Frame Set (6 x 6') B&H # WE1833

[1.1 lb / 500 g] I own a bunch of these fabrics in an 8x8 thinking that I would be able to produce more better looking wides.

And yes this is definitely the case, however not all situations can use a huge 8x8.

For example we may not have the space or maybe even time to set it up or even the permit (i.e. in public spaces).

But this 4x4 hits the sweet spot for 90% of my shoots (i.e. low budget, fast moving, grip it and rip it style).

I am usually tightening up the shot to cheat our lack of resources most of the time and this is perfect for getting those type of shots and in a fast timely manner too.

[Duvetyn fabric] The scrim is a simple yet handy tool. The craftsmanship quality is very good and reliable and I can set it up quickly.
B&H made it very simple to order, and quick to receive. Soon after shipping, I've used it reliably in demanding professional TV jobs to control light.

[1.1 lb / 500 g] This is one great product. I use both the 8x8 and 4x4 Scrim Jims. Very portable, quick to setup and change up on set. The 1-1/4 produces a very soft diffused look. Seems more than twice softer than the 3/4 stop diffuser. I'm going to get into a 1/2 stop grid cloth next.

[2.9 lb] 1/4 grid works great, wish it was cheaper but hey, you want it and this is the only way to get it! Wish Wescott or somebody else made a more durable hard case for the system, flown with it three times and looks like it’s been put through a meat grinder
