Picture Perfect Practice: A Self-Training Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Taking World-Class Photographs from New Riders meets the needs of photographers who are constantly frustrated or confused about how to make a photo that has "snap." The challenges of making a good portrait can be daunting. There are many factors to be taken into consideration such as subject, location, lighting and posing.

This book, using the author's considerable experience shooting in many different kinds of venues, breaks down the elements that go into making an ordinary portrait into a "keeper." Above all, the author emphasizes the need to practice the craft so that when you come up against a challenge, you'll know how to solve it. From symmetry to framing and from color to texture, you'll learn how to maximize the shooting session as well as make the best use of the location itself. Too often photographers do not take into consideration obvious factors such as background, posing and basic execution. You'll come away from this book with a sense of how to size up a shooting situation and know how to get the most out of it.

The book breaks down the three key elements that go into making a good image - location, pose, and execution. Once you've come to terms with how to deal with these elements, you'll build the confidence you need to enter any photo arena and come away with a winning shot.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could this be used as a light stand (a more portable version) for an assistant to be able to move about and hold?

A: Yes. This is what I bought it for, although I would check out Impact light stands if that is what your looking for. Purchased them about 7 years ago and never looked back.

Q: 2. Somehow my mounting screw is gone from my monopod. Is there any way to purchase that part?

A: Please find the Oben Reversible 1/4 -20 and 3/8 -16 mounting stud at the following link: a href= http://bhpho.to/1DeGLoz target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1DeGLoz/a

Q: 3. Is this an entire set of three wheels, or only one wheel?

A: 366068 mombo caster set of 3

Q: 4. Which would be the better ballhead to use with this monopod, the Oben BE117 or BE117T?

A: We would suggest the BE117T to use with this monopod.

Q: 5. Can it still rotate when you have the legs extended?

A: You can rotate the top of the Oben ACM-2400L 4-Section Aluminum Self-Standing Monopod with Mini-Legs when the legs are extended.

Q: 6. Will the Oben QRA-R2 Quick Release Assembly with RP-20 Plate fit this monopod?

A: Yes, you will be able to add BH #OBQRAR2 to this monopod. It is compatible.

Q: 7. Hello! Wondering if this stand could support a longer boom arm to hang a light out over the set. Also, anyone know if wheels can be attached to the legs?

A: Yes, to both of the following questions. Please review the following items Impact Boom Arm (Black, Chrome-plated, 86") BH #IMLSABASB • MFR #LSA-BASB https://bhpho.to/3UQl1Ob Kupo 100mm Brake Caster M10 Threaded (Set 3) BH #KUKS940912 • MFR #KS940912 https://bhpho.to/2JXSqld

Q: 8. does this model accept the folding legs of the 2400l model?

A: No, the legs are only for the Oben ACM2400L monopod.

Q: 9. What is the diameter of the bottom/smallest section? (for the ACM-2400 without the legs) Is it a bare round tube when the rubber tip is removed? Or is there a threaded insert like with the ACM-2400L? I'd like to use a spike foot and need the diameter to see if any of Manfrotto's will fit.

A: The diameter is 1" and does not accept a spiked foot.

Q: 10. Is this a thicker, more heavy duty type monopod or a skinny lightweight version?

A: I will admit to not using a monopod much, I got this one as part of a package deal. However, this monopod is quite sturdy and the leg clamps on it are tight and secure against slippage. There is no side-to-side wobbling in any of the sections and the sections are reasonably thick - actually thicker than the legs on my tripod.

[360] Very informative and easy to read and understand. With any book about photography people need to understand no matter if the book is 10 yrs old or 10 days old the exposure triangle, white balance, shutter speed maintains the same principles. The tecniques in this book are explained and provides images and settings. Also the author offers assignments for practice. If you're an advanced
Landscape/nature photographer you will know most if not all the material coverded. That said, This book may be easier for someone to understand and actually learn something that you did'nt learn from a hard to follow book full of one liners.

[Pearson] I have been photographing since the 1950's for fun and profit. College photographer, US Army photographer, US Army Corps of Engineers photographer, small town wedding photographer, weekly newspaper sports photographer and now just fine art. Mostly on a second job basis. Nature, wildlife, and travel photography have always been a second interest. This book is as complete, understandable, comprehensive (for the film to digital crossover like me), and well illustrated as you can find. It will be a fun read as well as reference book from now on. Right on Sean!

[Pearson] Anything Kelby is far superior to anything else on the market. Step by step instructions. I've been buying and learning from Kelby books since Photoshop 4 over 10 years ago. This is the best series.

[Pearson] Scott Kelby does an excellent job in presenting the material in a work flow process format after he gives a brief introduction to the books flow. I am new to Lightroom 6 and am using a PC. After reading the first chapter and looking at the table of contents, I jumped right in and made edits to my first .nef photo. I am certain that I have much to learn and will follow up on reading the book in its entirety.
