Bring on the funk with the BOSS AW-3 Dynamic Wah Pedal Guitar Effectsfrom BOSS. By itself as a stompbox, the AW-3 functions like an auto-wah. Set the rate and let the funk begin. For easy tempo changes, the tap-tempo mode allows you to use the footswitch to tap out the desired tempo, and the AW-3 will follow. The AW-3 also functions dynamically, like an envelope filter, using the level of your guitar's signal to modulate the "position" of the wah. Funk and fusion players like guitarists Guthrie Govan and bassist Bootsy Collins have used this type of sound to great rhythmic effect. It was also an integral part of Jerry Garcia's signature guitar sound.

Some players like the filtered sound of a cocked wah on their guitar tone. The dynamic wah can be set to a specific position along the wah's travel and will remain there when switched off. This precludes the trouble of selecting the correct position with a standard wah treadle every time you turn it on. Aside from the classic wah tones, the AW-3 also has a "Humanizer" mode which adds a simulated vocal "vowel" sound to your guitar's tone. The vowel changes as you pick. Also on the AW-3 is a separate input optimized for the frequencies produced by bass guitars.

Five modes - Up, Down, Sharp, Humanizer, and Tempo - allow you to use the wah sound in a variety of ways. Up mode provides a wah effect in which the filter shifts to higher frequencies. Down mode provides a wah effect in which the filter shifts to lower frequencies. Sharp mode provides a stronger wah effect with shifting of the filter to higher frequencies. Humanizer mode transforms the guitar's sound into the sound of a human voice, with vowel sounds that change as you pick. Tempo mode is used to set the auto-wah's tempo, in a range from 200 ms to 4 seconds.

An extra input can accept a separately available expression pedal like the Roland EV-5 or non-latching footswitch like the BOSS FS-5U. A non-latching footswitch can control the tap tempo of the pedal without having to enter the tap-tempo mode. An expression pedal can control the wah sounds and Humanizer effects of the AW-3 in the traditional "treadle" manner.

The AW-3 can run off of a single 9V battery or an optional external 9 VDC power supply. The electronics are encased in BOSS's iconic durable metal housing with a non-slip rubber base. The battery compartment can be easily accessed by unscrewing the thumbscrew at the front of the pedal. This pedal utilizes a buffered bypass for silent switching and driving long cable runs even while the pedal is disengaged.

[50 mA @ 9 VDC] Impressive right out of the box. The possible combinations effects, amps, synths, etc... make this Boss a virtual limitless fountain of sound.

[1 kOhm] I own a couple Ernie Ball VP Jr volume pedals, and while these pedals are superior to the Boss FV50 in terms of build quality and feel, they're heavy. I'm putting together a small pedalboard for bus and train travel and so weight is my primary concern. I picked up the FV50H for use with guitar as well as the EV-5 expression pedal. So far they're working out great.

[1.2 lb] First, I love this item . I have a Roland GR55 now. When I have access to AC power, I have a ball with it.
But,
I busk in my town’s Main Street where AC power is not available. Granted, the SY-1 isn’t as sophisticated and the GR 55, but now I can expand my guitars palette of tones.

I had been searching for this item for months. All the typical outlets kept pushing their in stock dates forward in time. I even made a purchase of the SY-1 on eBay, only to have the seller cancel the sale for no apparent reason.
I searched again and saw it listed on B&H. It said it was in stock. I called and was told it was in inventory. A few days later it was in my hands .

Cannot Be too positive about my experience with B&H. They came thru..hands down.

I have shopped with them before, but now, they are my first go to place for music gear.

THANK YOU!!

[-20 dBu] Exactly what we've come to expect from Boss/Roland. Pedal just works. Sounds good and built like a tank. Easy on batteries when you don't want to run power. Priced right.

[50 mA @ 9 VDC] Couldn't wait to get this pedal so I would have more personal control of the volume when playing my mandolin on stage. It works as advertised and I am very pleased with the purchase. I just have to get into the habit of using it!! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone needing a volume control pedal.

[1 kOhm] Zoom knocks it out of the park with every product they make. I needed a volume pedal. This multieffects unit cost less than a volume pedal. Plus it gives me a looper, drum machine, and multieffects.

This pedal provides a studio quality effect unit for the price range. I don't play out live so I don't know what the noise level of this pedal is like under stage conditions. I also bought the Zoom MS-50G which is a higher quality pedal but not as fun. The MS1 has knobs and switches for effective realtime control.

It is very easy and faster to write and customize effects compared to the MS-50G. Both pedals are great.
