The stereo, all-tube MP-2A from A-Designs is a dual-channel audiophile-quality microphone preamplifier that is designed to be versatile and sonically flexible. The preamp will work with any ribbon, condenser, or dynamic microphone, as well as instruments such as guitars, bass, and keyboards via the DI input. The MP-2A uses no integrated circuits and relies solely on discrete components such as EF86 input tubes, 6N1-P output tubes, Audience capacitors, custom-wound Cinemag output transformers, and hand-crafted point-to-point wiring.

Each channel provides up to 60 dB of clean, low-noise gain, a -20 dB pad, and two Tone switches that provide four distinctive possible sonic signatures. Additional features include Neutrik XLR connectors, true VU metering, 48V phantom power, polarity reverse switches, and front panel Hi-Z input jacks. The preamp's fixed-gain amplifier/output attenuator topology provides a wide "sweet-spot" for any microphone or instrument and captures material with clarity and transparency. The MP-2A ships with a standard IEC power cord.

[2] Black Lion has done it again by making a great little preamp. I've owned Black Lion's more expensive 4-channel B173 preamp before, but I like this Auteur MKIII even more than that one because it's simpler to use and sounds just as great. Its black color and wonderful design is great to look at, too -- very beautiful. I'm very happy with this purchase. 5

[60 dB] I bought two of these to us for importing and exporting 8 stereo stems from my DAW via ADAT Lite Pipe. The tubes are the icing on the cake. These sound sweet and clean, and are a breeze to operate. The interface is so intuitive than the manual is almost unnecessary. Grab one before ART figures out that they're worth far more than list price. 5

[2x balanced XLR] For the price, this is an unbelievable product. The tone is clean and smooth, the conversion is great, the ADAT output is simple, the whole thing is rugged and takes up only 1 rack space. The tone won't change your life or solve all your problems but I haven't found another product that gives you 8 channels for anywhere near this price. 5

[< 0.08 %] I wanted to add pre's to my saffire pro 40 and I didn't want the same kind of pre's I already had with my interface. So I went with these tube pre's. I really like them on Drums, they really add a kind of presence, more life to the drums, compared with the pre's on the saffire. For stuff like dialogues or voiceovers I think they are a bit too coloured tho, and the noise floor is quite high. But I really like them on loud sources. I am looking to change the tubes for high quality ECC83 soon to reduce noise floor. This is really cheap and a real good value. They add 8 pre's with one adat cable to my saffire pro 40, so I can carry my rack anywhere and record drums or a full band with 16 inputs. Really versatile. There's also 8 analogue balanced output, which is nice. 5
