The Tiffen 4x5.65 Glimmerglass 1/8 Filteris a beauty filter whose function is two-fold: in addition to modifying the appearance of the image itself, it also features a sparkling appearance when viewed from the front, instilling more confidence in the model. The filter itself helps to soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles. It also produces glowing highlights and a mild reduction in contrast for a more ethereal appearance. The 1/8 density provides more softening than the 1/16, but less than the 1/4.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 5.65" / 101.6 x 143.5mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I fit a 4x5.65" filter with tray?

A: Most 4x5.65" filters with a tray would not fit in the Ruggard Five Pocket Filter Pouch.

Q: 2. How many shims are in this kit?

A: The ARRI Impression V Shim Pack contains: 3 x 2mm LPL shims 3 x 1.85mm LPL shims 3 x 1.95mm LDS shims 24 x TX 6 screws

Q: 3. Could I fit the lee filter holder and snap on lee100 polarizer in it?

A: No, I would recommend the Lee field pouch or the Ruggard pouch. You can click on the links below to view them on our website; https://bhpho.to/3bVLi7f https://bhpho.to/2SOBJiU

Q: 4. Does anyone tried using the Lee Seven 5 filters for this?

A: I bought it for exactly that purpose. The filters fit with the long edge as the width. They fit the other direction as well, but about .25" sticks out of the top of the pocket that way. It is a snug fit, but not hard to work with, just not a lot of free room.

Q: 5. Would this fit in a pelican 1120 case if I put less than 10 filters in it? The case is 4 7/8" x 7 3/8" x 3" with all the foam pulled out

A: The Pelican 1120 has internal dimensions of 7.3 x 4.8 x 3.1 inches. It sounds like this case would be just a bit too large from the specs you have given. You may be able to squeeze with less filter in it than capacity, but it is not something we can recommend.

Q: 6. Could I somehow remove / cut out a divider to fit my bulky filter stack? It’s only 62mm, but it would be too thicc for one slot.

A: I would not cut the dividers out. Chances are you will damage the filter pouch.

Q: 7. Can I stick a filter without a lid in this? Or can it get scratched?

A: Yes, you can. There are soft dividers on the inside separating the filters, so you can put them inside without a hard case.

Q: 8. Does the pouch slide on the backpack belt after its attached to the belt?

A: The Ruggard 4-Pocket Filter Pouch (Up to 86mm) has Touch-Tab Belt Loop. So it can slide once on a belt?

Q: 9. What are the dimensions of the pouch?

A: 7 wide x 3 deep x 5.5 tall

Q: 10. Does this bag come with a shoulder strap?

A: The Ruggard Five Pocket Filter Pouch (up to 4 x 6") does not include a shoulder strap. It does have a touch-tab belt loop.

[0.455 lb] Works well so far, and is less obscene than even 1/4 black pro mist can be. And price is fair. Now why do these filters cost 500% more in rectangular shape?

[Glass] Tiffen Filters are always the best when it comes to build quality, reliability and options they provide. I am super happy with my 2 Set of Glimmerglass!!:) They make the image naturally gloomy without washing out the entire scene.

Also B&H did a perfect job on shipping and customer contact! I live in Germany and my package arrived only 4 days after my order was placed. Thanks, you guts are the best!

[0.455 lb] Great diffusion filter that adds soft contrast to take off the digital edge while retaining sharpness. Would highly recommend over other diffusion filters.

[0.455 lb] Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect.

Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome.

A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use.

Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

[0.455 lb] So I have used the GlimmerGlass series a lot as a large matte-box filter on the cinema cameras. But sometimes I go and shoot inserts on a lighter setup with my FX6 and a Zoom lens. For that purpose this filter is absolutely perfect. If the 1/2, 3/4 and 1/4 become available as 82mm filters I will purchase them.

[Glass] Any time I decide on diffusion filters, the biggest considerations for me are the strength of halation and the amount of contrast I'm looking for. I usually default to Hollywood Black Magic as my standard diffusion filter. When I want something stronger and a big more vintage feeling I'll reach for Black Pro Mist. When I want something much more subtle, I'll go for Glimmerglass because the halation is under much better control than the other two. I usually aim for a 1 strength when I want to see the effect. Even then, it doesn't feel too strong.

[0.455 lb] I was looking for a filter that would bloom the highlights and practical light sources without decreasing the overall contrast of the image, and I think this was just the filter I wanted. Compared to Black Pro Mist and especially Cinebloom, the shadow levels and sharpness are maintained with this filter. The diffusion is just enough for me. To me, it seems it blooms the highlights and light sources just enough to look like my image was shot on film, but without being too dramatic or noticeable. I think if I were going for a more dreamy look, I'd go with a higher Glimmerglass strength or use something like Cinebloom.
