The Tiffen 6.6x6.6" Pro-Mist 1/16 Filterhelps to reduce the value of the highlights while noticeably lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/16 density provides less contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/8, while also allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 6.6 x 6.6" / 167.6 x 167.6mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this lens compare to the Sony Vario-Tessar 16-70mm f/4 Lens?

A: They both are very good lenses Zeiss glass , 16-70mm is not a full frame lens .

Q: 2. Does it have a linear motor?

A: Yes, the FUJIFILM XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR Lens features a linear motor.

Q: 3. What polarizer can I use with this that will give me 1) No vignetting and 2) Blue sky will not be uneven (usually on 16mm, blue sky will be thick in middle when using polarizer) ?

A: No polarizer will work because in a wide angle lens the angle of light incidence is beyond the polarizing angle in the corners. Even a huge 6x6 will not stop uneven sky.Its not necessary anyway....skies are evenly darker blue in wide angle lenses...better to use a big graduated filter to bring down the sky brightness to emphasize the foreground detail, and still get beautiful deep sky blue.

Q: 4. I have a 72 mm circular polarizing filter and it won't screw onto this lens. It actually seems to be much too small. I thought this lens takes 72mm filters. What is going on?

A: The lens is 72mm and all my 72mm filters fit it including Polarizers. Your Polarizer must be marked incorrectly.

Q: 5. I have the Lumix S 18mm and 35mm f1.8 Prime lenses. Would I be happy replacing both of them with this f4 lens?

A: The Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 Lens will allow you to easily zoom, so you won't have to switch lenses but the aperture is narrower at f/4. So it depends if you need the better quality in low light of those 1.8 lenses or f/4 is enough for your needs. If you take many photos in low light situations than you might want to stick with the lenses that you have.

Q: 6. Bought the lens and love it - however, I cannot find a number to pin to how many stops of light the stabilization is equivalent to, anyone know?

A: You gain about 3 stops of light.

Q: 7. I own both the Sony A7s ii and a Canon 7D. Can I use this lens on both? Thanks!

A: No, it will only mount on the sony A7 cameras.

Q: 8. What is the model number of the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm lens? This information is needed to register the lens.

A: F XF16-80MMF4 R OIS WR P THE SITE WILL COMPLETE THE MODEL NUMBER FOR YOU AS YOU TYPE

Q: 9. Does this lens have manual focus available? I am wondering that If I use ND filter, how it still be able to auto focus? Please help and Thank you!

A: All lenses designed for the Sony E-mount have the capability to be focused manually. The Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS Lens has both a zoom ring and a focus ring on the lens, and the camera on which the lens is used may be set to either autofocus or manual focus, depending on your needs. Also, depending on the strength of your neutral density (ND) filter and the current ambient light level, autofocus may be possible, but if you are using a strong ND filter or working in low lighting, you may need to first pre-focus with the camera in manual mode before attaching the filter to the lens to capture your image.

Q: 10. I'm concerned about the few reviews mentioning problems with the autofocus. Is this likely a mechanical or firmware issue?

A: Overall, we don't have issues with the auto-focus of this lens. Defects can occur when making these lenses. If anything does happen that is not up to par, we urge you to send us an email at ProPhoto@bhphotovideo.com and we can make the right for you.

Great filter, just the right amount of mist. High-quality, easy to clean and screw in, overall very good.

Great all purpose filter. Definitely smooths skin and blooms highlights for a modern cinematic look. 1/4 is strong enough for most situations while not being too strong to be distracting.

I use it with Sigma 18-35 1.8 on BMPCC4K. Earlier I had 'heavier' Black Pro Mist 1, but this 1/4 baby does more delicate job.

I bought the 1/4 and 1/8 Black-Pro-Mist filters for myself recently but I have been using them for years on a number of productions and they always help in achieving the 'look' that so many modern filmmakers desire. There's a reason why their diffusion filter is so trusted and praised even years after the competition has had time to catch up.

You get so much value for your money and you can honestly never go wrong with using either of these filters.

I use this softening filter in certain landscape situations, not necessarily for portraiture. And guess what, that can be lots of fun! I use it with my 105 Nikor micro lens occasionally and can get the most dreamy look, just gorgeous. No kidding. I also have the 77mm size, pro mist 3 for the 70-200 zoom. Really can't tell much difference between the #2 and #3 strength. Get the black version if you don't want some halos around the highlights. I like the halos personally. The more backlighting or highlights with light areas, the more halos
