Combining three distinct effects within a single filter, the Tiffen 4x4" IRND 0.9 Glimmerglass 1/2 Filterfrom Tiffen 4x4" IRND 0.9 Glimmerglass 1/2 Filteroffers a 3 stop exposure reduction, attenuates infrared wavelengths, and slightly softens skin details while adding a glowing quality to highlights. Intended for use with high definition video capture with CMOS and CCD sensors, this filter compensates for the extended red sensitivity of these sensor designs in order to produce cleaner, more accurate colors and also takes the over-sharpened "digital edge" off for a smoother image quality. The filter is constructed from water white optical glass for maintained clarity and measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm to pair well with lightweight or clip-on matte boxes.

Alleviating the need to use multiple filters at once, this filter combines three distinct effects to reduce the number of filter surfaces in use.

IRND 0.9 filter offers a 3 stop exposure reduction to permit working with longer shutter speeds or wider aperture settings than normally required.

Infrared attenuating design is proportionate to the neutral density value, and helps to ensure clean, accurate colors and true blacks.

Glimmerglass effect produces glowing highlights; helps to soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles; and offers a slight reduction in contrast for a more ethereal image appearance

When viewed from the subject's perspective, the filter appears to be sparkling and helps to instill confidence in models, resulting in a potentially better performance.

No. 1/2 diffusion strength provides the least amount of softening, which is less than the 1 strength.

Constructed from water white optical glass for maintained image quality.

Measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm and is ideally suited for use with lightweight clip-on matte boxes.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I buy this along with the Lamparte DSLR Starter Rig B&H # LABSK01, do I need to also buy 2 short rods for the front to mount the matte box?

A: You should be able to get away without it., Unless you are using a really long lens. You will have to adjust the camera to connect to the the matte box. I don't have the extension and it works fine for me with a GH4.

Q: 2. How does this differ from the medium Super-Shield (B&H # RYSSKM), and can the super-shield replacement front pods (such as the B&H # RYSSRPS) be used with this (so I can also use it with my smaller mic), please?

A: Hi there; thanks for your question. The design is based on the Super-Shield, so other Super-Shiled parts will be compatible, including the front pods. The keyword with the Perfect for range is 'optimisation'; we have balanced and measured everything so that the windshield covers the vast majority of mics in the NTG range. Please read here for further info: a href= http://rycote.com/microphone-windshield-shock-mount/perfect-for-range/ target= _blank http://rycote.com/microphone-windshield-shock-mount/perfect-for-range/./a

Q: 3. which one of these Rycote shock mounts are best for Sennheiser MKH 50?

A: You can use the Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting (B&H # RYINV7) or Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII Microphone Suspension - Lyre Shockmount (B&H # RYINVHGMKIII) with the Sennheiser MKH 50. The MKH 50 is 150mm long and the INV-6 accommodates mics that are less than 120mm long, so the INV-6 won't work. The INV-7 is for mics that are longer than 120mm and the INV-HG is also suitable for the MKH 50.

Q: 4. How does the Milvus version of this 21mm lens compare to the older Distagon version?

A: The Milvus 2.8/21 shares the same optical design as the 'Classic' Distagon T* 2.8/21 ZF.2, but is superior in a number of other ways. The anti-reflective coating is improved, which provides better control of flare and subsequently improves contrast and color saturation. The barrel is now weather sealed against moisture and dust, while the aperture on the ZF.2 series can be de-clicked for continuous control of the aperture.

Q: 5. Will these work with the LOM basicUcho mics? https://store.lom.audio/products/basicucho?variant=41645264011422

A: The Rycote InVision INV-6 Microphone Suspension for Short/Small Condenser Mics (4.7" Long, 0.7 to 0.9" Diameter), BH # RYINV6, is comprised of two InVision lyres with two clips that accommodate microphone bodies measuring 19 to 25mm in diameter and measure under 4.7" long, The LOM basicUcho microphone measures 80 (3.14 inches) x ⌀20.3 mm which would make it compatible with this Rycote microphone mount.

Q: 6. Is the Diameter Hole of the Rycote Baseball 19/20 0.7" or 0.8"?

A: The Rycote Baseball 19/20 has an adjustable opening with flexible tabs that will fit microphones that have a diameter of 19 to 20mm. It is better to use the metric measurements which are much more accurate than the rounded off imperial measurements as 19mm = 0.75" and 20mm = 0.79".

Q: 7. Why is this cheaper than the super-shield?

A: The Rycote super-shield and super-blimp are very similar products; both offering exceptional suspension mechanisms and excellent wind noise reduction. The biggest advantage to the super-shield (and why you pay more) is the attached hand grip. Should you desire to use the mic in a stealth like application, the hand grip will come in very handy- no pun intended.

Q: 8. What is the distance between the two lyres? I've heard its 1 , but just wanted to confirm that before I buy one :)

A: Thank you very much for the quick responses :) I plan on using the INV6 with my Schoeps active bars! But I'm in the process of making my own PAS(Point At Stacks) active bars out of 20mm delrin and 3/8 stainless steel threaded rods as well, and just wanted to know the distance between the lyres so that I can make a super small PAS bar! I was going to make my smallest PAS bar about 1 1/4 long, so this will be perfect! And then I'm going to make a few at DINa/DIN/NOS spacing as well to use with my NBob SGC Clips(custom Schoeps SGC clips that are made from delrin and aluminum bases)! So this INV 6 will be absolutely perfect! So thanks again for the answers fellas ;)

Q: 9. Would the shock mount in this kit be good to use by itself, or is it best to use a different shock mount if not intending to use the blimp?

A: The shock mount included in this blimp kit is very good, and would be find to be used on its own.

Q: 10. Would a CS-3e fit in this blimp? I know it is bigger than the CS-2.

A: Sanken CS-3 shotgun will not fit the Rode super Blimp, Inside the blimp the depth is 8 inches the Sanken length is 10.7 inches too long will not fit.

[Glass] Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect.

Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome.

A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use.

Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

[Glass] So I have used the GlimmerGlass series a lot as a large matte-box filter on the cinema cameras. But sometimes I go and shoot inserts on a lighter setup with my FX6 and a Zoom lens. For that purpose this filter is absolutely perfect. If the 1/2, 3/4 and 1/4 become available as 82mm filters I will purchase them.

[Glass] I was looking for a filter that would bloom the highlights and practical light sources without decreasing the overall contrast of the image, and I think this was just the filter I wanted. Compared to Black Pro Mist and especially Cinebloom, the shadow levels and sharpness are maintained with this filter. The diffusion is just enough for me. To me, it seems it blooms the highlights and light sources just enough to look like my image was shot on film, but without being too dramatic or noticeable. I think if I were going for a more dreamy look, I'd go with a higher Glimmerglass strength or use something like Cinebloom.

[Glass] Any time I decide on diffusion filters, the biggest considerations for me are the strength of halation and the amount of contrast I'm looking for. I usually default to Hollywood Black Magic as my standard diffusion filter. When I want something stronger and a big more vintage feeling I'll reach for Black Pro Mist. When I want something much more subtle, I'll go for Glimmerglass because the halation is under much better control than the other two. I usually aim for a 1 strength when I want to see the effect. Even then, it doesn't feel too strong.

[Glass] Works well so far, and is less obscene than even 1/4 black pro mist can be. And price is fair. Now why do these filters cost 500% more in rectangular shape?

[Glass] Tiffen Filters are always the best when it comes to build quality, reliability and options they provide. I am super happy with my 2 Set of Glimmerglass!!:) They make the image naturally gloomy without washing out the entire scene.

Also B&H did a perfect job on shipping and customer contact! I live in Germany and my package arrived only 4 days after my order was placed. Thanks, you guts are the best!

[Glass] Great diffusion filter that adds soft contrast to take off the digital edge while retaining sharpness. Would highly recommend over other diffusion filters.

[Glass] I was worried that a 1 strength would be really glow-y the way a promist would, but you only really see an obvious glow in very strong back-lit or high contrast conditions. Otherwise it's a very a very gentle touch on highlights and overall contrast.

Also the idea that a sparkly filter inspires confidence in a model is the silliest selling point I've ever heard, and my models laughed at the idea of it ... which got me some genuine smiles, so I guess there's that.
