Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the vm 110 work with Oympus OMd e m5 and the Pen series cameras?

A: This is not a speedlight, it just the lught source, the flash is of the same power as the light, it just preserves battery power, I'am sure it will work with the control unit in or off camera.

Q: 2. Will this fit on a Fuji XE1?

A: Yes, the Bolt VM-110 LED Macro Ring Light would be compatible for use on the Fujifilm X-E1 Digital Camera.

Q: 3. How much light does this light put out? To say the Guide No. is 15'/4.7m at ISO 100 does not answer the question. Guide Numbers are useful for flash, because the flash duration is far less than the shutter speed required for flash sync, and therefore does not effect the exposure (For the record, the relevant calculation for manual flash exposure is Aperture = GN divided by distance). For a continuous light source, exposure time is a relevant factor, and I would need to know the brightness of the light to calculate the exposure time and aperture as well as distance and ISO to get the correct exposure.Lux or EV at a certain distance would be appropriate, or you could give me a Guide Number that includes a certain exposure time, for example 1/100 sec.Typically a ring light is used for macro photography at a very short distance. At a very short distance light falloff due to the inverse square law is small. On the other hand Depth of Field is extremely small at large magnifications, requiring a very small aperture of F22 or smaller. So plenty of light is needed. So I come back to my question - how much light does this device produce? I am interested, but need to know before I decide to buy.

A: Hello David - I have had this product for a couple of years now. I have found it to be useful on many occasions, including adding the light to the camera for great fill flash outdoors on folks. The LEDS are split into all on, left or right banks of LEDS. Or, from a macro ring-flash POV the unit is functional and adds sufficient light when using it for macro work. THE MAIN THING TO CONSIDER is that this is a VERY PLASTIC unit. Including the vast number of lens-rings. It is doubtful that the unit would survive a fall to the ground - AND - you only have one shot at the threads on the plastic rings... For the money however, I found a safe place for the light to live in a gadget bag, so I keep it warm, safe, and dry. All in all, If you plan to make this a go-to flash, my opinion is keep looking and find a unit is built to handle heavy use. Otherwise, this is a little gem to have when you realize that you need it. Hope that helps! Kevin

Q: 4. Does the light ring lock into position or does it contihually rotate around the lens like mine does?

A: The power control unit on the Bolt VM-110 LED Macro Ring Light will lock onto the camera's hot shoe by rotating the locking wheel on the base of the unit in a clockwise direction. The LED light ring snaps onto the adapter ring used on your lens by pressing the adapter ring locks on the side of the LED ring light. It locks the LED light unit onto the adapter ring, but the LED light can still swivel on the adapter ring. As stated in the instruction manual on page 13, it is recommended to make sure the Bolt logo is on the bottom of the ring light and facing away from the camera.

Q: 5. The flash works when using the viewfinder but not in liveview with my Canon T5i. How can I get it to flash in liveview?

A: Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the flash function while the camera is in live view mode.

Q: 6. Will this work on sony A7RIV?

A: This ringlight can fit a Sony A7R IV, but it will not be a tight fit to the hot shoe.

Q: 7. Does the adapter ring VM-110AR67 fit the VM-160?

A: Yes, the Bolt VM-110AR67 is also compatible with the Bolt VM-160 Ring Light.

Q: 8. At maximum illumination and room temperature, how long can this provide continuous illumination for?

A: The manufacture does not list the maximum power used to run it. It runs on four AA batteries.

Q: 9. WHAT COLOR TEMPERATURE IS THIS LIGHT?

A: 3000-15000K (using filters)

Q: 10. Will this work with my Sony A7 III?

A: The Bolt VM-110 LED Macro Ring Light is a manual light and will work with the Sony a7 III Mirrorless Camera.

[67mm] Very useful product because it is not like the regular flash. It has several functions that allow you to change such like: dimmer, lighter and even flashing. The flash level is used still not has a very strong light like regular flash. The image looks more nature light and hard to tell that is use flash or not.

[0.015 lb] Light construction but does the job. Useful for close up work probably need the bigger model if you are using it for portraits. But for macro fotos it works well.

[0.015 lb] Use it for macro or close up photography on combination with studio lighting makes a perfect combination to add some contrast. Obviously this is an inexpensive item but it does the job.

[0.015 lb] This is a perfect low-cost and versatile solution to our two typical close up tasks -- food and jewelry photography. The illuminating power is moderate, but more than adequate for our tasks. The threaded lens rings work with all of our lenses except three (the ones for our non-SLR cameras) that have a 40.5 mm thread. If we need one of them, we can always go for step-up rings (smallest ring supplied is for 49 mm lens filter mount). With careful handling, the rig should last a long time. This is for studio work, not for out in the field. In exchange for the moderate output (LED not flash tube), it offers ease of studio setup -- you see what you get, before you shoot. Then you can switch to flash mode (LEDs stay on a half second when shutter button is pressed on the camera).

[Polycarbonate] I like to do macro photography and also some macro video. This ring light fits the bill at a good price point. I can use as a flash or constant light on or off the lens. It's bright. Only thing I don't like is when leds are left on it does run the batteries down fast. Still I think this is worth it.
