This 5 x 5" Tiffen Full Spectrum IRND Filter 5x5 5-Stopis a combination of both an infrared control filter and a 5-stop neutral density filter. An IRND is ideal for HD cameras, which have greater low-light sensitivity and, subsequently, an increased susceptibility to IR contamination. When using a standard neutral density filter to counter the increased light sensitivity afforded by the HD sensor, the effects of infrared pollution become more apparent. This filter combines an ND filter with a comparable IR control filter to eliminate the spill of infrared light reaching the sensor while still maintaining the extra exposure benefits of a neutral density filter.

This filter is constructed from Water White glass and is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 5 x 5" / 127 x 127mm.

A: Yes, search for Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Diffuser Fabric 4 x 4', or Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Full-Stop Diffuser Fabric 4 x 4 if you want to be more specific. The scrims have Velcro attachment.

Q: 5. Is this portable?

A: Yes. The diffuser fabric is attached to the frame with Velcro and can be removed. The frame can be taken apart at the corners. The frame is four straight pieces and four corner 90 degree connecters

Q: 6. can I use this with a 4x4 frame that isn't from Westcott?

A: It is possible to use it with a different frame, but you might have difficulty fastening it to the frame. Westcott has velcro that lines the frame and the diffuser, and it is quite a tight fit. But it is just a diffuser and you could clip it on. Might be a pain, and not fit exactly.

Q: 7. Can one person hold the 6x6 scrim?

A: Yes, but not recommended if you have any moderate to heavy winds.

A: No. I created a frame with (1 inch) PVC Pipes and L Joints. Works well. Solid fabric.

[Glass] I bought this for an upcoming China shoot and paired it with my Sony A7s. I had to return this for the Tiffen 1.2 IRND. I wasn't unhappy with the 2.1 at all. What it came down to was that: I wanted a little more room to create a larger depth of field. This filter does however bend towards a green shift, so make sure you compensate for that in camera. 5

[Glass] The filter works as advertised. Be aware that sensors have 50% of their pixels in the green so the camera firmware compensates for that. When using the IR filter and daylight white balance a slight green cast could be apparent. Easily fixed by shooting in RAW and/or switching to AWB. 5

[Glass] These filters get the job done and prevent any IR contamination. There is a slight shift in color which can easily be corrected in post or in-camera. Many cinematographers use this. This will not work on the Red Camera sensors - they need a hot mirror as well. So keep that in mind. I hear these range of IR filters are the best choice for Alexa, as these filters do the least amount of damage to the skin tones. 5

[Glass] I use this on my RED Scarlet-X. The optics is great quality with no color distortion whatsoever. This is also probably the best value IR ND you can get. 5
