This 5 x 5" Tiffen Full Spectrum IRND Filter 5x5 3-Stopis a combination of both an infrared control filter and a 3-stop neutral density filter. An IRND is ideal for HD cameras, which have greater low-light sensitivity and, subsequently, an increased susceptibility to IR contamination. When using a standard neutral density filter to counter the increased light sensitivity afforded by the HD sensor, the effects of infrared pollution become more apparent. This filter combines an ND filter with a comparable IR control filter to eliminate the spill of infrared light reaching the sensor while still maintaining the extra exposure benefits of a neutral density filter.

This filter is constructed from Water White glass and is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 5 x 5" / 127 x 127mm.

A: Yes, search for Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Diffuser Fabric 4 x 4', or Westcott Scrim Jim Cine Full-Stop Diffuser Fabric 4 x 4 if you want to be more specific. The scrims have Velcro attachment.

A: No. I created a frame with (1 inch) PVC Pipes and L Joints. Works well. Solid fabric.

Q: 6. can I use this with a 4x4 frame that isn't from Westcott?

A: It is possible to use it with a different frame, but you might have difficulty fastening it to the frame. Westcott has velcro that lines the frame and the diffuser, and it is quite a tight fit. But it is just a diffuser and you could clip it on. Might be a pain, and not fit exactly.

Q: 7. Does this diffuser work with the original frames or just the new design?

A: This Westcott Scrim Jim Cine fabric only works on the current Scrim Jim Cine frames.

Q: 8. Can one person hold the 6x6 scrim?

A: Yes, but not recommended if you have any moderate to heavy winds.

A: Hook and loop fasteners are on both sides of the frame that this fabric attaches to.

Q: 10. How do I get the creases from folds out of the fabric?

A: Keep it on the frame, get it wet, let it dry in the sun! ...Then roll it not fold it for storage

[Glass] I have the 10 stop (3.0), 6 stop (1.8), and this 3 stop (0.9) Tiffen IRND filters. These filters cover my needs for ND filters. I have not noticed a color shift when using these filters. The metal rings are well made and the threads are smooth, they attach without binding. 5

[Glass] These filters get the job done and prevent any IR contamination. There is a slight shift in color which can easily be corrected in post or in-camera. Many cinematographers use this. This will not work on the Red Camera sensors - they need a hot mirror as well. So keep that in mind. I hear these range of IR filters are the best choice for Alexa, as these filters do the least amount of damage to the skin tones. 5

[Glass] This product met all my expectations. The surface is durable and easily maintained which I require as I travel hard with my gear. The transmission is even and the spectrum left in tact. 5

[0.56 lb] The filter works as advertised. Be aware that sensors have 50% of their pixels in the green so the camera firmware compensates for that. When using the IR filter and daylight white balance a slight green cast could be apparent. Easily fixed by shooting in RAW and/or switching to AWB. 5

[0.56 lb] I bought this for an upcoming China shoot and paired it with my Sony A7s. I had to return this for the Tiffen 1.2 IRND. I wasn't unhappy with the 2.1 at all. What it came down to was that: I wanted a little more room to create a larger depth of field. This filter does however bend towards a green shift, so make sure you compensate for that in camera. 5
