Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How well suited is this for live events, such as a ballroom with a presentational speaker? Will lots of people in the room interfere with the signal if the tech table is in the back? Will the automatic gain control affect the person trying to bring the voice up on the board?

A: The AVX system is very good, but it has a short operating range of up to 98 feet (line of sight) and you may experience problems with signal dropout if the receiver is too far from the transmitter or if anything blocks the signal path between the transmitter and receiver. If you want to have the same flexibility as the AVX combo system to be able to switch between lavalier and handheld mics, you may like the ew 100 G4 combo system which includes the ew 112P wireless lavalier system combined with an SK 100 plug-on transmitter that will attach to any dynamic mic with an XLR output connector, allowing you to select your own handheld mic. If you prefer the Sennheiser wireless handheld mic, you can purchase an SKM 100 G4 Handheld Wireless Microphone Transmitter with No Mic Capsule (B&H # SESKM100G4A1) with a Sennheiser MMD 835 Cardioid Dynamic Capsule (B&H # SEMMD835) and combine it with an ew 112P G4 lavalier system (B&H # SEEW112PG4A1). Please contact us if you would like further assistance.

Q: 2. It should be noted, that while this system includes 2 transmitters, only 1 can be used at a time. -- Does this mean I can't use two lavs at the same time, or one lav and one handheld during a shoot?

A: The transmitters work independently. You can use two of the mics at the same time in any combination, so long as you can accept two lines of audio into the device you are using.

Q: 3. what is the specs for the bass roll off switch for the 421?

A: There are actually 5 roll off settings on the 421. The M position is for Music and no roll off's are engaged. At the other end of the spectrum S is for Speech which is the steepest roll off. Each turn of the roll off switch offers a steeper suppression of the entire frequency range beginning roughly at 1000Hz. So if one starts at M with each click of the roll off ring one click sees 100Hz being suppressed by 4dB,another click suppress 100Hz by an additional 3dB and so on.Remember the roll off is gradual at 6dB per octave. Resulting in a gentle slope as opposed to a cut off. Best uses are Tom Tom's, electric guitar and percussion.

Q: 4. Is there a separate XLR out for each channel?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EM-XSW 1 Dual-Channel Stationary Receiver has separate XLR and 1/4" outputs for each channel.

Q: 5. Shorter than 25 ft of 5-pin XLR cables?

A: We have several 5 pin XLR cable options available for Special Order in lengths below 25 feet. https://bhpho.to/2p6St3n

Q: 6. Use as a dual purpose field mic: I shoot a considerable amount of interviews/news where a normal mono mic (416) is all that is required. Every so often however, I find myself needing to record a musical performances or needing a audience mic (ENG style, not for critical listening) where having a stero mic would help. How well does this mic work in mono mode? Does it work/sound as good as the 416 when just utilizing the center element? I have a 552 field mixer, so dual phantom power isn't an issue. I guess I would need to find a boom cabled for 5 pin XLR, any suggestions?

A: Yes, this mic will sould as good as the 416 when in mono mode. The specifications are nearly identical, and the tonal quality will be the same. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/308955-REG/Remote_Audio_CAXSTE25_5_Pin_Stereo_XLR_Female.html

Q: 7. Transmitters appear to be exclusively for lavalier mics. What are the options for use with boomed mics or existing production audio mics like Sennheiser MKH series that require phantom power?

A: The Sennheiser AVX system has not come out with a plug-on transmitter yet. If you need one that can supply phantom power, the Sony UWP-D system can supply the 48v. Sennheiser EW100 series only will work with dynamic mics. However, their EW 300 series will supply phantom power.

Q: 8. is one of the Lav's an MKE2?

A: They are both ME 2's

Q: 9. I need to shout live music performances in varying stage and acoustics. Want hi quality sound using a Sony XHR-NX80, Best Mic?

A: You can use the Sennheiser MKH418S Stereo Shotgun Microphone with your camera if you want an on-camera mic to record live music.

Q: 10. Does this come with 2 xlr receivers so the two mics can be used at one time?

A: This is the combo system. Ships with a single receiver unit along with handheld and belt worn transmitter. Only one transmitter would be operational at a time.

[12 to 52 VDC] Works perfectly on our Baby Grand Piano at our church. Well worth the price!

[30 Hz to 20 kHz] We use this mic inside our grand piano with the cover closed. Set up is so easy - we can leave it inside and just attach the XLR cable to the external box, mounted on the dolly. And the sound is excellent - much better than the mic on a boom with the cover partly open. Because the lid is closed, there is much less unwanted sound from the rest of the band. Overall, an excellent product.

[Condenser] I've been hunting a relatively inexpensive solution for our on-stage piano and this microphone has worked wonderfully!

[150 ohms] I use this microphone for live performance of clarinet + live electronics. Finally I am able to be mobile and compact on the stage, not using two separate microphones (with so many holes sound source is practically everywhere in this kind of instrument). I hope this solution will also help to avoid feedback problems. Sound quality is great, but I am not expecting it to be 100% natural, since the lower microphone is pointing almost directly to the bell, getting very rich of low freqs sound. I think it will be best to combine it with wireless solution.

[140 dB] This is an outstanding microphone for micing a closed lid on a grand piano. While we don't need a microphone to enhance the sound in the church sanctuary it is needed to supply sound to monitors and the streaming signal. We have been using the M40 for several years and when the old one failed we immediately purchase a new one.

[12 to 52 VDC] One of the concerns public speakers face is the quality of the A/V equipment. Can you hear me now? is not simply the Verizon slogan. If your lavalier microphone or headworn microphone is not properly placed, you may wonder if people can hear you. The HSP4 is a beautifully formed headworn microphone that is securely placed, eliminating one's concern with regard to whether or not the audience can hear you based on the microphone placement. If you can afford this microphone--it is a bit expensive--it is well-worth the money. What may be a detour, however, is the color of the microphone versus the color of one's skin. As an African-American, I knew the tan Sennheiser would not be suitable. My desire was to have the microphone blend in to my skin tone as much as possible. The black Sennheiser (HSP4) seemed to be my only option. It actually may stick out more than the tan.
