Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. It says it comes with an eSATA cable but the picture doesn't show an eSATA port. Is there one?

A: This appears to be a web error. Thank you for pointing it out. I have sent it in for correction. There is no eSata.

Q: 2. Does this work with Windows 10 Pro?

A: The Buffalo 8TB DriveStation Axis Velocity USB 3.0 External Desktop Hard Drive comes preformatted for NTFS, making it compatible with Windows systems. A reformat is required to work for Macs.

Q: 3. Can you swap out drives with this unit? Meaning, could I buy other drives and remove the others if they filled up?

A: check out the g-technology website, they have a FAQ section.

Q: 4. Does G-RAID 8TB means the actual capacity is 4TB?

A: If you leave the unit as RAID 0, then you will have 8TB capacity, and the device would be used as a working drive. If you reconfigure it as RAID 1 (mirror) then you will have 4TB of useable space, and a duplicate of your data on the 2nd drive.

Q: 5. Where's the fan sound? Ive been using this unit for 3 days and feels a little hot, but the fan doesnt start. Also I connected my 2nd display to the TB port of this unit and doesn't work... Am I missing something?

A: Just turned on my 8TB G-RAID TB. There is a startup sound, then it has only a very faint sound, which I assume is the fan but I'm not really sure. I searched the G-Tech support pages but couldn't find anything specific to the G-RAID fan. There was something about another model, G-Safe, having a fan that only comes on when the drive overheats. But I don't know if that applies to the G-RAID too. I have a vague memory that my drive case sometimes feels a little warm and maybe reading somewhere that that's OK. But if yours feels really hot, you might want to just return it and ask to exchange it for another one. Also, do you have at least 4 inches of free space around all sides of the drive? I think that's supposed to be especially important in the rear, in terms of good ventilation.

Q: 6. can you please assist me with required voltage for power supply(cord)?

A: 110 volts

Q: 7. can it be attached to the modem as a backup device ?

A: No this would not work.

Q: 8. what version of thunderbolt cable comes with? Thunderbolt cable 1 or 2 ?

A: Unless they have changed the design, this is a thunderbolt 1 device which comes with a thunderbolt 1 cable. The fact that is thunderbolt 1 vs. 2 is a non-issue because you're limited (even with a fast raid set up) by the speed of the internal non-SSD hard drives, which though 7200, perform at a speed much less than possible through thunderbolt 1 technology. That being said, I own five of these drives and like them very much.

Q: 9. Can this be used for a Time Machine backup?

A: EThis system really helped me in my work. I am a professional journalist and radio presenter. including music. I have a huge music archive and without this device it was very difficult to work with.nter an answer to this question.

Q: 10. Does this come with the drives or the price is only for the unit without any hard drives ?

A: is the voltage of the prouduct suitable for 220v?

[ 3.5" HDD ] I bought this through another retailer, but wanted to hop on and let everyone know that even though Windows 8 has some compatibility issues with some external hard drives (i.e. Hitachi/HGST) This unit is working flawlessly in Raid 1 mode on my Windows 8 system.

[4 TB] This device is very helpful in performing backups. I have tried the BlackArmor from Seagate and have had performance issues and failures. This device has exceeded my expectations.

[4 TB] Would have paid nearly the same amount of money buying just the disk drives. This package is great. Plug and play. Easy to switch between Raid 0 and Raid 1. If you need disk space this is a great way to get it.

[4 TB] Easy to install on Mac. Long time to format drive-took 17 hours but works great. First one was defective, kept turning itself off, but B&H replaced it quickly and new one works great

[4 TB] Could not have been easier to set up. Loved the software package. Again, easy to use and understand. Comes with raid already to go. If you are looking for a device to safely back up your important files, this is the one you want. Fast access as well.

[4 TB] I've been looking for a way to move most of my data off my local hard drive and decided to go with something that could run Raid 1 for redundancy. Setup was very simple and the drive has performed as expected so far. I haven't tried to run any performance tests but moving the roughly 1 TB of data took a while -- which I expected. The only problem that I have is that I don't have a USB 3 port from the docking station for my laptop so am running it on the slower USB 2. It's unfortunate that the DriveStation didn't have other port options but I knew that when I purchased it. We'll see how it holds up but as of now I'd recommend it as a very affordable (and simple) option if you want to run a Raid 0 or 1 setup and don't want a NAS. For my purposes, I wanted something directly connected to the machine and this was the most affordable option I could find.

[ 3.5" HDD ] Purchased my first Buffalo as a Raid 1 storage drive for my photography around 2012. Had good luck with THAT one, so I decided on getting a 6 TB version of the same external drive set up on Raid1, as my older drive was a 4TB raid1 device giving me a net of 2TB of storage, and it was now FULL! So I've activated this new 6TB drive also on Raid 1, which gives me 3TB of new redundant and safe storage capability. I trust the reliability of these external drives!!

[ 3.5" HDD ] I needed a redundant way to back-up my picture files. (I just had a hard drive fail) The Buffalo system does it automatically. I had a little trouble setting it up but a call to customer service took care of the problem. Their rep. talked me through the setup and it has worked as advertised.

[ 3.5" HDD ] The instructions and software included make it easy to set up. I like it because it is USB 3.0 and is not very large - so it fits nicely on a shelf.

[4 TB] I've had my Buffalo 4TB up and running for 2-weeks now and it functions as specified. Thanks B&H; your service was excellent!
