Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do the XLR connectors just transfer the signal, or is there a pre-amp before getting sent off to the camera?

A: That is a good question, one that I am not completely sure of. I have used both a shotgun mic (which required phantom power) and lavaliere mics with this rig. The phantom power is drawn off the L batteries on the harness. Both mics worked incredibly well in terms of quality of audio recording once the BMPCC was able to monitor audio levels. Before they made that upgrade it was a bit of a guessing game. If I had to guess, I would say that it is just transferring the signal, although with the price I paid for this thing it should come with an internal amp and a back massage. Might need to contact the manufacturer on this one.

Q: 2. How do I mount this on the Sonya6300 if I only have a tripod?

A: This would be your best solution see link below for the Indipro Super Clamp. Just unscrew the 15mm clamp off unit and screw on the super clamp and attache to tripod leg.a href= https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1303047-REG/indipro_tools_scw14a_super_clamp_with_1_4.html target= _blank https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1303047-REG/indipro_tools_scw14a_super_clamp_with_1_4.html/a

Q: 3. Could I use BP-950G batteries instead LP-E6 batteries?

A: unfortunately , This unit only takes LP-E6

Q: 4. About how much runtime will two new fully charged LP-E6 batteries give you with an A7S compared to the original battery?

A: We have user reports of 4 or more hours of run time with the IndiPRO Tools 8PASA7.

Q: 5. Where does it mount to the Pocket Camera?

A: It's designed to mount on rails, not the camera itself, but the rail mount can be unscrewed leaving a 1/4-20 hole if you want to mount it another way.

Q: 6. The L-angle plug does not fit through my cage that encloses my blackmagic pocket camera. Where can I get a straight plug adapter or extension so I can plug the L-angle plug of this IndiPRO Grid to the power port on the camera?

A: Unfortunately there is not a solution for adapting this right angle connector to a straight connector.

Q: 7. Each xlr input is split into separate left and right or mixed?

A: Yes they are separate channels.

Q: 8. If I power my camera with a regular sony battery, can I use the xlr to 3.5mm works without the LP-E6 batteries? Does the audio box need to be powered in order to work?

A: The unit doesn't need to be powered, but the mic that you are using needs to be powered,

Q: 9. Will this work with the c300 markiii?

A: Yes, the C300 III uses a 4-pin Lemo for power.

Q: 10. Is this product made of metal?

A: The rail mounting clamp and bolt are metal. The battery and microphone input block is plastic (except for electrical connections and a few small pieces on the xlr inputs. The plastic has so far held up fine -- without receiving 'kid glove' treatment. Biggest issue is that there is nothing that locks batteries in place, and the shape makes rigging a solution a bit of a chore. As a cord-cutter, we've ran a BMPCC for a good eight hour day with almost no off-time, and plenty of checking takes - and could have gone hours more. Keep an eye on camera temp during extended 'camera on' shoots - especially if shooting time lapse in RAW format - parts of the camera can get too hot to touch and suffer damage. This not an 'approved' Blackmagic device, so may lack some form of power management on a camera that has no self-cooling system. Note the xlr inputs are just converters (not a preamp and offer no phantom power). Otherwise, a good, budget solution with a touch of DIY to keep batteries on the unit. For pro use, there are better and, naturally, more expensive choices. That said, ours is still in the field...
