Before they made that upgrade it was a bit of a guessing game. A: The rail mounting clamp and bolt are metal. The battery and microphone input block is plastic (except for electrical connections and a few small pieces on the xlr inputs. The plastic has so far held up fine -- without receiving 'kid glove' treatment. Biggest issue is that there is nothing that locks batteries in place, and the shape makes rigging a solution a bit of a chore. As a cord-cutter, we've ran a BMPCC for a good eight hour day with almost no off-time, and plenty of checking takes - and could have gone hours more. Keep an eye on camera temp during extended 'camera on' shoots - especially if shooting time lapse in RAW format - parts of the camera can get too hot to touch and suffer damage. This not an 'approved' Blackmagic device, so may lack some form of power management on a camera that has no self-cooling system.
