Truly wide and truly fast, the Sigma SA mount Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens SA Mountis a member of the venerable Art series of Global Vision lenses from Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens SA Mountand pairs a sophisticated optical design with a robust physical construction. Comprised of 15 elements in 11 groups, the lens design includes two "F" Low Dispersion (FLD) elements, five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements, and two aspherical elements to significantly reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, as well as limit distortion for clean, sharp, and evenly illuminated imagery. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to minimize surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. The wide focal length and consistent image quality make this lens especially suitable for landscape, interior, architectural, and astrophotography applications, while the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture deems it ideal for natural and low-light shooting.

Complementing the optical performance is an equally adept Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. This focusing motor also enables full-time manual focus override at any time just by rotating the focus ring for refined manual control and focusing as close as 10.9". The lens barrel is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite material, which supports working in a wide variety of temperatures and conditions, and the lens mount is constructed from brass for long-term durability and mounting accuracy. Additionally, this lens is also compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuned control over focusing parameters and other lens characteristics.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens' is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Prime wide-angle 20mm f/1.4 lens is designed for full-frame sensors and can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 30mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Two FLD, five SLD, and two aspherical elements have been incorporated within the lens design to correct for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire focusing range and help to ensure high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast regardless of focus point or aperture setting. This optical design also helps to control distortion and limit vignetting.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce an attractive out-of-focus quality.

Fixed petal-shaped lens hood helps to reduce lens flare when working in strong lighting conditions and also offers some protection to the front element of the lens.

The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

A: Lens was a gift for my son.

Q: 5. Is there any autofocus noise when using with mc-11 like the 18-35 has?

A: I use this lens with a 5D Mark III. I've experienced virtually no sound as this lens acquires focus. This lens is excellent - focus is sharp, colors true and low light performance is as good as any I've used.

Q: 6. Can this lens be used on a cinema rig, with nun's knickers & a matte box (so you can use filters) or will it vignette?

A: Yes you can use this in a Cinema Rig with little to no vignetting.

Q: 9. Has anyone had any issues with the Sigma 20mm 1.4 on the Canon 5D Mark IV?

A: I haven't so far. I've had it for about 4 months now I think. It's great to minimize the crop factor for the 4K video mode and works out to be almost 35mm when in 4K video which is my primary focal length I shoot at.

Q: 10. can we use LEE filter for this lens?

A: I have heard of NO firm making any add on filters for this item. Realize, it has a 94.5 degree field of view and is 85 mm! Unless you wish to make some kind of slip on thing there is nothing yet. Still, this is one of the best lenses I have gotten and I have most of the Nikon and Sigma catalogs!

[9, Rounded] The lens is sharp and easy to focus. Initial results are very good. I use it on a Canon 6D and a Sony A7R2 w/a Metabones adapter, and all automatic functions work fine with fast autofocus. The fast aperture combined with the Sony's in-body image stabilization yields very reliable, sharp results even in very dark conditions. It's big, but not as big as my Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8. The large aperture permits creative options not possible with other super-wide lenses I've used. In particular, I can do selective depth of field effects similar to what I've done with tilt-shift lenses. I plan to use the lens extensively for star field shots, but haven't had the opportunity to test it in that application yet. The lens feels very solid and well-built.

[Full-Frame] I purchased this lens for night exposures. I am not a fan of stacking so this fits my style and the lens has worked even better than expected. I do shoot at f1.4 for about 15-20 seconds at ISO 500-600. This is underexposing a bit, l but the RAW file works nicely and, the noise is acceptable and the reduced ISO looks great on an enlarged print

[Autofocus] Okay, it's stupid difficult to hold a 5D series camera and this lens at arms length backwards, but it is possible!

[7 x 4.9 x 4.7"] This is an outstanding addition to my Canon 5DsR. The Canon lens I had been using never produced enough sharpness or contrast to utilize the 50 megapixel image of my camera. The Sigma 20mm Art lens proved it's reputation on the first image.

[Full-Frame] I have recently upgraded all of my equipment for landscape and night photography. I am a Canon user, faithful to the 5D Mark IV. Before investing in a wide angle lens, I compared the Sigma arts (14, 20, 24mm) with the Canon Prime ~equivalents, read many reviews, and decided that the 20mm was the right quality for price. I am a teacher, so price point was important. This lens is a beast, heavy and stable. I have not had any trouble with auto-focus, although I am using it primarily in manual. Amazing star quality, with some expected comas at the edge of the frame. I bumped up to f/2 to help reduce this. I am very impressed with Sigma Art and glad that I did not spend the extra $$ for the 14mm. The photo was taken in March, right at the start of Milky Way season. If you are debating between the 20mm and 24mm, I would definitely go with this one (the 20), because with cropping in post-production, I would not have wanted more of the night sky cut out of the shot.

[0.14x] The lens is built like a tank. You get that impression when the package arrives, before you see it. It's heavy, solidly built and feels very good in the hand (it's nearly as heavy as the 70-200mm F2.8). With a lens that heavy and well built, you'd expect it to have great picture quality and...it doesn't disappoint. I've used the lens professionally for real estate photography and expect to use it on other projects as well. It's bright, fast and wide—perfect for architectural, landscape and night skies (I experimented just one night with a few pictures and wow! It's awesome). I've experimented shooting wide open at 1.4 - 2.0 and didn't see a noticeable difference in sharpness, although I preferred shooting at around 1.8 - 2.0. I highly recommend it!
