The SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x Rangefinder Cine Kitallows you to expand your creative horizons, enabling you to capture footage with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio on your camera with a 16:9 sensor. This results in an image that out of the camera will look distorted, as if your subjects were stretched taller and thinner than normal. This is easily corrected in post with virtually any modern NLE, creating an image suitable for viewing on wide-screen.

The Anamorphot-50 features adjustable focus marked normal and near. The near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects closer than 6.5' away; setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from 6.5' to infinity. It mounts to lenses with a non-rotating front and a front thread diameter of 62mm. Three included step-up rings allow you to mount the Anamorphot onto lenses with 58, 52, or 49mm front thread diameter. SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-50 1.33x be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter.

A 16:9 sensor records an image with an aspect ratio of approximately 1.78:1, and if you want to convert that to a more cinematic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 you could crop your image in post. However, this leads to a loss in resolution and image degradation. The Anamorphot 1.33x squeezes the image horizontally, which creates the classic tall / thin image that must be "de-squeezed" in post. The anamorphic process allows you to capture your image using your entire sensor, so there is no loss in resolution when compared with cropping your image.

The Anamorphot-50 1.33x screws onto your lens's front, providing the classic anamorphic effect. Once screwed onto your lens, you use the push/pull locking ring to align and lock the Anamorphot-50.

The Normal/Near adjustments ring allows you to fine-tune the focus of your lens for shooting subjects closer than 6.5'.

It features a 77mm filter thread so you can attach optional filters, diopters, or the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine for improved focus functionality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with panasonic gh4/gh5?

A: SLR anamorphic adapter 40- Mft Mount Compatible for gh4 and gh5.

Q: 2. does it work with slr magic 25mm, 0.95, mft mount? with gh5?

A: Yes it does. The SLR Magic 25mm T0.95 HyperPrime Cine III Lens MFT (B&H # SL2595LMFT3) has a 52mm filter thread. This kit comes with a 52 to 62mm Step-Up Ring so you can connect it to that lens. It is also the proper focal length, you need a lens between 20-85mm with an MFT sensor.

Q: 3. I have the Sony a7rii with the sony 24-105 f4 & the 85mm G master. will it work with this set up? both lenses are 77mm thread.

A: Not that we are aware of. The filter thread size and/or diameter of the front lens element will be too larger to work with either lens.

Q: 4. Hello if I use this lens with lenses with a lens diameter of 40mm, will I have a problem?

A: This can be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter. At 40mm you are within the diameter parameters. How focal length and lens threading size still needs to be taken in to account.

Q: 5. HI, is there a way to attatch this to a 67mm lens? Like the Sigma 35mm? Thanks!

A: You can use the General Brand 67mm-62mm Step-Down Ring (Lens to Filter) to attach the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 to a Sigma 35mm lens and it's 67mm filter threads.

Q: 6. Would this work well with the Sigma 45mm f2.8 E-mount lens if I put a step up ring on it?

A: "SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-50 1.33x be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter." This is all well and good however, no lens manufacturer ever lists that dimension. So it is a matter of guesswork as to the efficacy of the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x on the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN. I am of the opinion that it might work. However, testing is the only way to make sure. At B&H, we like the customer to make the final decision. At B&H, you have a 30 day return period for most items, including this one. Q: 7. I use Canon 5D MARk IV, buying SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x with Rangefinder, which lens should i need to buy for screwing it on them?I mean which lens is best tips with SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x with Rangefinder?

A: The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens should work well. It has a 58mm filter thread and is not that large of a lens.https://bhpho.to/2aTfcfk

Q: 8. So most of my non-kit lens have a 77 thread or higher. Does this still work on those? or am I looking at vignette city? I have a 1.6x crop camera btw.

A: The key to using this product is that the lens has an outer diameter no greater than 50mm. Lenses that have a 77mm filter thread will more than likely have a larger outer diameter than that and will not work. The proper lens will depend on the camera you are using, which will then determine the mount needed and focal length you need to stay within. Q: 9. Which are the best taking lenses for FF cameras using SLR Magic 1.33x 50mm with rangefinder? I want to get sharp image and avoid from vignetting.

A: The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens should work well with this Anamorphic Adapter, B&H # CA5014EF . It has a 58mm filter thread and is not that large of a lens. https://bhpho.to/2aTfcfk

Q: 10. Can I put a 72-77 step up ring on a lens, and then attach this and keep full functionality?

A: That may not be possible. The Anamorphot product only works with lenses that have a 50mm front diameter or less. The 72mm aspect is the front of the Anamorphot to attach to the Rangefinder.

[1.45 lb] Quality build and not cheap plastic, which surprised me. It works as advertised. Used it on my 70-200mm canon lens and it worked fine. You'll need a rail system, a sturdy step up ring preferably a brass one, and a lens support bracket to handle the weight. However with that extra weight your camera panning will be smoother.

[1.45 lb] Using the SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter
with my SLR Magic Hyper Prime 25mm T0.95 cine lens (also purchased from B&H) is a really nice combination.
The two really work well together. The images are amazing. For the price you can't go wrong. I find that SLR Magic lens are well made. Its really fun shooting and editing anamorphic content. Presently shooting lumix g9 (purchased from B&H) with latest firmware update.

[1.45 lb] This adapter isn't for everyone but I'm in love. At first I was a bit disappointed with how terribly soft and level of chromatic aberration in the image, but that was because I was trying to shoot way too wide open. When I stopped down to f/7 and higher the image started to look amazing. The bokeh even at f/7 was really pleasant. Using taking lenses that lack focusing hard stops may be an issue though because of the weigh of the adapter. My canon 50mm f/1.4 focus ring will just spin and spin and not able to push or pull the adapter, making focusing impossible. I bought the rangefinder adapter but it wasn't for me. This isn't just a pop and play adapter and takes way more time to get your shot, but I love the results.

[1.45 lb] This is the most cost effective way for me to get into Anamorphic shooting.

Using this with Rokinon Cine DS taking lenses and a BMPCC 6K camera is heavenly.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with cine gears in this model and the focus could use some dampening and smoothing but otherwise I love this whole setup.

[1.45 lb] We used this on a shoot only a few days after receiving it, which was challenging but I love a good challenge. It wasn't just any shoot either, a campaign of 3 separate commercials shot over 4 days. We used only this and a Contax Zeiss 50mm prime taking lens, and a canon close up filter between the anamorphot and rangefinder as a diopter, which also worked great. It picks up almost exactly where it leaves off without it, (around 3ft6in) and with it I can focus in at around 6-8 inches! Obviously it's very important that it's aligned correctly, but its easy to tell when you point it at any vertical lines. We used an FS700 into an Odyssey 7Q which did our desqueeze for us, and even has a setting where you can center crop for correct framing for 2.35:1. It's subtle in all the ways you'd want it to be, and has all the elements that just makes things look more cinematic We'll be buying the GH5 and I can't wait to use this with the new photo mode!

[1.45 lb] My first anamorphic solution. It allowed me a way to satisfy my curiosity about the format. I've used it to shoot to entire short films on my Black Magic Cinma Camera 2.5K, attached to vintage Nikon Still lenses. I've also attached it to my old Video 8 camera and Super 8 Camera to try the format in other formats

[1.45 lb] Do you want that epic Panavision look without the epic Panavision prices? This lens is for you! There is minimal chromatic aberration when the F stop is wide open, slightly closing it will clear it right up. The focus is spot on with minimal horizontal softness after the de-squeez.

Every shot looks like an epic movie. You cant go wrong with this lens.

[1.45 lb] We understand what this adapter does to the image, the squeeze on the picture and the flares and all, so then what's really to discuss here is the practicality of using this on a set.

Considering the anamorphot adapter requires focus adjusting in addition to the taking lens, it's rather impossible to shoot any sort of complex cinema without the rangefinder. One cannot pull or push focus on two elements simultaneously at any level of efficiency - if it's discovered that this is in fact a practice on any set, then the cinematographer deserves both and award and a slap on the head. You see, if the adapter and the taking lens are both pushed to infinity focus, then the rangefinder takes over focusing responsibilities, thus making it possible to use a standard geared focus system to push and pull.

Then, the issue becomes finding a taking lens that can maintain a proper relationship with the anamorphot+rangefinder. It appears that unless using an SLR Magic brand taking lens, the quality of results will vary. The rangefinder includes instructions on how to dial in the perfect focus using any lens other than one of the SLR Magic brand (assuming that lens is of the smaller diameter), though such is to be practiced with discretion. Apparently not all "other brand" lenses match perfectly with the anamorphot+rangefinder. To properly dial in focus, one should apply the anamorphot and the rangerfinder to their taking lens of choice, push the taking lens and anamorphot to infinity, and then focus the rangefinder to exactly four feet away from the sensor of the camera. Here, final focus adjustments to the taking lens are to be made, to achieve perfect focus. Then, so long as the taking lens focus does not move, the rangefinder can take over. Understand that with SLR Magic lenses, this extra step may not be necessary.

Perhaps there's other alternatives, but for the price, this is a legitimate option. Be prepared to baby your rig, but the results pay off.

[1.45 lb] I am pairing this with the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM with excellent results. The EF 24mm does not extend or rotate when focusing, making it an ideal choice for use with the 1.33x adapter. Used with my (yes, old school) BMCC I get a 40mm horizontal anamorphic field of view which is really very versatile. Also, the lens image stabilization is nice for handheld work. I did add a Smallrig lens support on rails, just for peace of mind, as the lens with adapter is fairly long and front heavy. It flares nicely if you want it to and sharpness and contrast, to me, seem more than adequate - even nice. When looking at options and seeing some of the wacky rigs folks work up to shoot anamorphic, this is really a much better solution.
