The SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x Anamorphic Adapterallows you to expand your creative horizons, enabling you to capture footage with a 2.66:1 aspect ratio on your camera with a 4:3 sensor. This results in an image that out of the camera will look distorted, as if your subjects were stretched taller and thinner than normal. This is easily corrected in post with virtually any modern NLE, creating an image suitable for viewing on wide-screen.

The Anamorphot-50 features adjustable focus marked normal and near. The near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects closer than approximately 26' away; setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from approximately 26' to infinity. It mounts to lenses with a non-rotating front and a front thread diameter of 62mm. SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-50 2.0x be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter.

A 4:3 sensor records an image with an aspect ratio of approximately 1.33:1, and if you want to convert that to a more cinematic widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1 you could crop your image in post. However, this leads to a loss in resolution and image degradation. The Anamorphot 2.0x squeezes the image horizontally, which creates the classic tall / thin image that must be "de-squeezed" in post. The anamorphic process allows you to capture your image using your entire sensor, so there is no loss in resolution when compared with cropping your image.

The Anamorphot-50 2.0x screws onto your lens's front, providing the classic anamorphic effect. Once screwed onto your lens, you use the push/pull locking ring to align and lock the Anamorphot-50.

Supports focal lengths between 35 and 100mm for APS-C and MFT format sensors, and 70 to 100mm for full-frame format sensors.

The Normal/Near adjustments ring allows you to fine-tune the focus of your lens for shooting subjects closer than approximately 26'.

It features a 77mm filter thread so you can attach optional filters, diopters, or the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine for improved focus functionality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Wich focal lenght can be used with this adapter below 50mm focal lenght in full frame dslr .. Can i use it with 35mm focal lenght lens ? With 28mm ... Or better using with micro 4-3 sensor size ?

A: When using a full frame camera you can use focal lengths between 70-100mm. For both APS-C and MFT Cameras the range goes from 35-100mm.

Q: 2. Hi, does this work with the Sony fe 90mm, f2.8 ?

A: It does not. For a full frame camera the focal length must be between 40-85mm. This lens is too telephoto. Your best option for a telephoto lens that is Full Frame E-mount is the SLR Magic Cine 75mm f/1.4 FE Lens for Sony E-Mount, B&H # SL7514FE. That lens is the proper focal length, has the proper outer diameter and filter thread for the Anamorphot adapter. https://bhpho.to/2EQPSXm

Q: 3. What's the widest angle taking lens that this 2x could be used with on a MFT setup without vignetting? For instance could I use it on a GH4 with a 12mm prime? An uber wide aspect ratio shot in 4k is what I'm after, final post-expanded frame size something like 6k X 2k.

A: SLR Magic recommends on the GH4 that you use no wider than a 35mm lens. Wider will cause vignetting. While this seems not wide at all, remember the 2.0X anamorphic will create an apparent field of half of 35mm or 17.5mm. If you need a wider aspect ratio, you can create it in your editing program.

Q: 4. I would like to use this adapter with my Zeiss prime lenses, on a D810, with my 85mm and 100mm lenses. What is the best kind of step-down ring to use, since the thread sizes on my lenses are all larger than the recommended 58mm?

A: here's what can tell you...if the filter threads on your lens are larger than 62mm on a full frame sensor, it will vignette. i have a very special manual zoom lens that is so sharp, i don't really understand it. the threads are 72mm, and it vignettes so badly that in order to correct it the horizontal crop is almost 4:3. on super35, it's still no good. it is what it is. i really like this adapter. i have two (with the range finder-it's a must have). hope this helps.from their website, they suggest full frame sensors with 40-85mm lenses. in fact, for any sensor size, they recommend a max of 85mm. for fun, i put one on my old Canon XA10 and zoomed it to 200mm. it looked fine. i know it's a big purchase for most, so make sure you have lens specs that they suggest.

Q: 5. What is the minimum foccusing distance ? Will the diopters for 1.33x model work with this model as well?

A: On the Anamorphot-50 2.0x adapter the near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects closer than approximately 26' away, setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from approximately 26' to infinity. Please keep in mind that this unit is designed to go on lenses with a 62mm filter thread, minimum focus distance will depend on the lens it is being used on. The 1.33x model when set to near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects closer than 6.5' away, setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from 6.5' to infinity.

Q: 6. can i mount it to pentax smc 50mm?

A: The Pentax SMC 50mm offers a 49mm filter thread. The SLR Magic can mount to the lens if using a step up ring from 49mm to 62mm. Example is Sensei 49-62mm Step-Up Ring B&H # SESUR4962 MFR # SUR-4962. https://bhpho.to/2wOnn6A

Q: 7. Will this work with the Lumix 12-35mm?

A: With the use of a 58mm to 62mm step-up ring, you can mount the Anamorphot to the Lumix 12-35mm lens. However, consideration must also be given to the shape of the camera sensor when selecting the Anamorphot. On any camera that records video in a 16x9 format, (which includes the GH4, the camera most associated with the Lumix 12-35mm) it is recommended that the videographer use a Anamorphot with the 1.33x squeeze. This creates the 2.40 aspect ratio that most videographer desire. The trade off is there is a loss in flare and other traditional anamorphic artifacts. If you use this one, the 2.0x, on a 16x9 rather than a more square 4x3 video format, the result is an aspect ratio that is usually considered much too wide. See the attached for the 1.33x Anamorphot.

Q: 8. My set up is bmpcc 4k with Canon EF to BMPCC4K T Speed Booster® XL 0.64x, Which taking lenses does SLRA50-2x with rangefinder support ? for wide, medium, long shots.

A: You will be able to connect the SLR Magic HyperPrime 50mm T0.95 Lens with MFT Mount, BH #SL5095MFT, directly to the Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. It has the same mount as the camera and has the proper filter thread, lens diameter and focal length to work. https://bhpho.to/2qv8BS7

Q: 9. Will it be compatible with voigtlander 21mm, 50mm, 75mm?

A: In terms of vignetting, it depends on your sensor size. If your are using a m4/3 sensor, you will have no problem with the 50 or 75. I will be testing it out on a 21mm voigtlander later this week. So far the widest ive tried is a voigtlander 40mm. For apsc sensors the widest you can go before vignetting is the 50mm.

Q: 10. Would this lens also cover a 16:9 Alexa sensor with a 50MM taking lens?

A: Yes, a 50mm lens will cover the sensor of any Alexa camera and the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x Anamorphic Adapter will not have any effect on the sensor coverage. However, if you shoot in 16x9 and you unsqueeze the image, it will have a 3.55:1 aspect ratio which is much too wide for comfortable viewing. You would have to crop the image and lose resolution. While it may depend on the Alexa model you have, you should be able to shoot in the cameras 6:5 sensor mode (formerly 4:3 Cropped). With a SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x on a 50mm you will have 2x squeezed image that will pop out to that desired 2.35.

[1.65 lb] There is no any SLR Magic anamorphot-40 available in rental house near my city, so I was terribly worried that it couldn't fit to my SEL18135 Lens for Sony a6600. Gladly, with a proper step-down ring, it works fine and seems not too heavy for the whole camera set. After a few practices, especially about training myself to de-squeeze the preview picture by imagination, I can't wait to use this baby working on my new short film project.

[1.65 lb] This is the most cost effective way for me to get into Anamorphic shooting.

Using this with Rokinon Cine DS taking lenses and a BMPCC 6K camera is heavenly.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with cine gears in this model and the focus could use some dampening and smoothing but otherwise I love this whole setup.

[1.65 lb] S’adapte très bien sur un objectif Nikon 35mm 1.8, très beaux flares, un peu plus long pour faire le point mais ça vaut le coup, le rendu final est très cinématographique. Très satisfait de cet achat.

[1.65 lb] Using the SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter
with my SLR Magic Hyper Prime 25mm T0.95 cine lens (also purchased from B&H) is a really nice combination.
The two really work well together. The images are amazing. For the price you can't go wrong. I find that SLR Magic lens are well made. Its really fun shooting and editing anamorphic content. Presently shooting lumix g9 (purchased from B&H) with latest firmware update.

[1.65 lb] Quality build and not cheap plastic, which surprised me. It works as advertised. Used it on my 70-200mm canon lens and it worked fine. You'll need a rail system, a sturdy step up ring preferably a brass one, and a lens support bracket to handle the weight. However with that extra weight your camera panning will be smoother.

[1.65 lb] As an owner of a set of Meike T2.2 Cine Lenses - 12,16,25,35 and 50mm, I was interested in how SLR Magic's Anamorphot 65 might expand these lenses versatility. Both the 12 and 16mm Meike resulted in a massive vignette, rendering the image useless. However, the 25, 35 and 50mm Meike resulted in a fully usable 2.35 scaled image for each lens, when paired with the Anamorphot 65. An attached photo show the Anamorphot 65 with the Meike 50mm T2.2, mounted on a BMPCC4K. The weight of the Meike lenses plus the Anamorphot 65 requires shifting the tripod attachment point from the BMPCC4K to a point more central to the two lenses. The other (screen capture) photo shows the BMPCC4K - 50mm lens images - Meike 50mm native image, 50mm with Anamorphot squeeze and Anamorphoto desqueeze. DaVinci Resolve was used for the desqueeze. A Resolve default setting of 1.33 resulted in a circular plate image at 15 feet. This setting seemed to be appropriate for all lenses evaluated - 25, 35 and 50mm.

[1.65 lb] Hi I'm South Korea DOP KIM Chang-Gyun. I buy two anamorphot at B&H. My Canon 80D camera with Canon EF-S 24mm F2.8 STM lens(52mm filter size)=40mm Anamorphic lens and Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM lens(52mm filter size)=55mm Anamorphic lens and Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM lens(49mm filter size)=80mm Anamorphic lens All This lens can use auto focus mode but some time change NEAR-NOMAL. My short film shoot Canon EF-S 24mm lens(=40mm Anamorphic lens) only. https://youtu.be/Ig0j8RvDGyY Thank You! ^^

[1.65 lb] I recently purchases this adapter used for use with my XF18-120mm zoom lens. Although the combination is front-heavy, overall they work very well together. By placing the camera in AF-C mode and using area focus, I can effectively control focus using the adapter's focus ring, with no need for a diopter or other attachment to get single-focus. Now that Fuji has updated the XF18-120mm firmware to fix exposure stepping, this is a very cost-effective way to get an anamorphic zoom lens. Since the XF18-120mm is also a power zoom lens, it opens up the possibility of remotely zooming as well. Further, when shooting FHD on the X-S20 the effective zoom range is about 23mm - 120mm without vignetting.

I have also tested this with a few other lenses and have had no issues. A very cost-effective purchase for adding anamorphic capture to lenses with a larger front diameter, I personally would want a smaller adapter for lenses with a filter thread diameter smaller than about 67mm due to the size and weight of this adapter.
