Made to greatly simplify the process of focusing with anamorphic adapters, this SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x Rangefinder Cine Adapter Kitprovides a calibrated focus scale, marked in feet, industry standard focus direction, and a cine-style focus gear for your lens set up. When using most anamorphic adapters that mount to the front of your lens, focusing requires matching the distance on the anamorphic adapter and the lens itself; this can cause problems when trying to pull focus. However, when using the Cine Rangefinder, you set both your anamorphic adapter and lens to infinity and pull focus on the rangefinder.

You can use the Rangefinder Cine Adapter to provide accurate focus markings, and using the adapter minimizes the appearance of lens breathing. It mounts to lenses with 77mm front filter threads, and you can use optional step-down rings for lenses with smaller front threads. The adapter integrates a cine-style focus gear, allowing it to easily interface with a variety of optional focus accessories. It allows you to focus your lens or lens/anamorphic adapter combination from 3.5' to infinity.

Works with SLR Magic Anamorphot adapters (1.33x50 and 2x50) to provide single gear ring focusing.

You can use the Cine Rangefinder on lenses without an anamorphic adapter as well. This is useful when working with lenses such as Nikons, which focus in the opposite direction from cine-style lenses, or when using lenses that have neither focus gear nor reliable distance markings.

Using the adapter allows you to minimize the effects of breathing that your lens or lens / adapter combination would ordinarily suffer from.

Once your taking lens is properly set to infinity, the focus distances on the adapter (marked in feet) are accurate and repeatable.

The adapter provides your lens with a focus range of 3.5' to infinity. Even if your lens or lens and anamorphic adapter combination by themselves do not focus as close as 3.5', using the adapter brings the minimum focus distance to 3.5'

The front 82mm filter threads of the adapter rotate as you pull focus on it. This may cause unwanted optical effects when using filters such as star or polarizers.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I put a 72-77 step up ring on a lens, and then attach this and keep full functionality?

A: That may not be possible. The Anamorphot product only works with lenses that have a 50mm front diameter or less. The 72mm aspect is the front of the Anamorphot to attach to the Rangefinder.

Q: 2. What's the difference between the Slr magic $599 vs $299 rangefinder? The information looks the same. The only thing I see that's different is that there are number indicator on the $599.

A: The principal difference and the reason for the cost is that the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter B&H # SLR77RFWM works with the SLR Magic Anamorphot series of adapters, currently 1.33x and 2x. The SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter with Near/Normal Calibration (72mm) B&H # SLR72RFNN, on the other hand, cannot work with the Anamorphot lenses.

Q: 3. Can i use it with my Sony alpha 7ii?

A: The question is more can it be used with the lens you have on your Sony a7 II. An advantage with the a7 II is that you can select full frame or Super35/APS-C as your recording set up. Depending on the lens(es) you have, select the sensor size to use. If you have lenses between 35-100mm, shoot Super35/APS-C. If you have lenses in the 70-100mm range, use full frame.

Q: 4. Which are the best taking lenses for FF cameras using SLR Magic 1.33x 50mm with rangefinder? I want to get sharp image and avoid from vignetting.

A: The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens should work well with this Anamorphic Adapter, B&H # CA5014EF . It has a 58mm filter thread and is not that large of a lens. https://bhpho.to/2aTfcfk

Q: 5. Does this come with the three step up rings as I have seen in online reviews?

A: No, this kit does not. It is the 1.33 standalone lens that comes with the step up rings. That is here: SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter B&H # SLRA50133X.

Q: 6. what's the difference between the 1.33x 40 and the 1.33x 50?

A: 40 can be used with front lens grass with in 40mm and 50 can use with 50mm front lens grass

Q: 7. I'm buying a FS7mkII, will this adapter work for a super35 sensor or will I have to get a 2x stretch?

A: I'm currently using it on the FS7 and FS5 which have the same sensor and the coverage is perfect. It's an excellent effect for the price.

Q: 8. I have GH4 and Panasonic F1.7 25mm, which accepts 46mm filters. Is it possible to use my own step-up ring to use SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x?

A: Dear Evgeniy,You need a 2x stretch when you use 4:3 sensors. 1,33 is meant for 16:9 sensors. Youll probably see some vignetting when youre using a 25mm lens on a gh4. You can only use lenses which have a smaller front thread than the connection of the SLR Magic, so it should work!

Q: 9. Would I need diopters if I buy the rangefinger?

A: You do not need diopters if you get the Rangefinder.

Q: 10. Would this work with my canon 8-15mm lens ?

A: Sorry, no. Even if you could mount it, (which is not possible due to the large, bulbous front glass element of the 8-15mm) you would see the inside of the AnamorphotX.

[1.08 lb] The two together are a great value as the rangefinder by itself is $600 but it this package only adds $200 to the price of the anamorphot. And anyone who has used an anamorphic adapter without one knows how difficult it can be to pull focus, so they really go together. Focusing is precise and easy and the 2x adds a cinematic dreaminess to the images that can only be achieved with anamorphic. I highly recommend the pair and the price is well worth it.

[Variable] Quality build and not cheap plastic, which surprised me. It works as advertised. Used it on my 70-200mm canon lens and it worked fine. You'll need a rail system, a sturdy step up ring preferably a brass one, and a lens support bracket to handle the weight. However with that extra weight your camera panning will be smoother.

[1.08 lb] Is it equivalent to the 50mm Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic ? Probably not.

But optically & mechanically, it's a very nice lens. You can easily switch from the native PL mount to an EF mount with a $150 adapter (or go very 1st class with SLR Magic's own Titanium adapter).

It offers full-frame coverage.

And you can add 82mm close up lenses (diopters) to get much closer than the lens's 3.5' minimum.

For Run_n_Gun, leave your Matt Box & rails behind & use an 82mm lens hood. The lens is small and light enough so you can use it hand held.

The travel case is a nice touch, too.

It's a bit more affordable (and a lot lighter) than the 50mm Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic. In fact, it's probably the most affordable way to get a true anamorphic lens.

Last, but not least, B & H has been very easy to deal with.

[1.08 lb] I recently purchases this adapter used for use with my XF18-120mm zoom lens. Although the combination is front-heavy, overall they work very well together. By placing the camera in AF-C mode and using area focus, I can effectively control focus using the adapter's focus ring, with no need for a diopter or other attachment to get single-focus. Now that Fuji has updated the XF18-120mm firmware to fix exposure stepping, this is a very cost-effective way to get an anamorphic zoom lens. Since the XF18-120mm is also a power zoom lens, it opens up the possibility of remotely zooming as well. Further, when shooting FHD on the X-S20 the effective zoom range is about 23mm - 120mm without vignetting.

I have also tested this with a few other lenses and have had no issues. A very cost-effective purchase for adding anamorphic capture to lenses with a larger front diameter, I personally would want a smaller adapter for lenses with a filter thread diameter smaller than about 67mm due to the size and weight of this adapter.

[Variable] We used this on a shoot only a few days after receiving it, which was challenging but I love a good challenge. It wasn't just any shoot either, a campaign of 3 separate commercials shot over 4 days. We used only this and a Contax Zeiss 50mm prime taking lens, and a canon close up filter between the anamorphot and rangefinder as a diopter, which also worked great. It picks up almost exactly where it leaves off without it, (around 3ft6in) and with it I can focus in at around 6-8 inches! Obviously it's very important that it's aligned correctly, but its easy to tell when you point it at any vertical lines. We used an FS700 into an Odyssey 7Q which did our desqueeze for us, and even has a setting where you can center crop for correct framing for 2.35:1. It's subtle in all the ways you'd want it to be, and has all the elements that just makes things look more cinematic We'll be buying the GH5 and I can't wait to use this with the new photo mode!

[1.08 lb] As an owner of a set of Meike T2.2 Cine Lenses - 12,16,25,35 and 50mm, I was interested in how SLR Magic's Anamorphot 65 might expand these lenses versatility. Both the 12 and 16mm Meike resulted in a massive vignette, rendering the image useless. However, the 25, 35 and 50mm Meike resulted in a fully usable 2.35 scaled image for each lens, when paired with the Anamorphot 65. An attached photo show the Anamorphot 65 with the Meike 50mm T2.2, mounted on a BMPCC4K. The weight of the Meike lenses plus the Anamorphot 65 requires shifting the tripod attachment point from the BMPCC4K to a point more central to the two lenses. The other (screen capture) photo shows the BMPCC4K - 50mm lens images - Meike 50mm native image, 50mm with Anamorphot squeeze and Anamorphoto desqueeze. DaVinci Resolve was used for the desqueeze. A Resolve default setting of 1.33 resulted in a circular plate image at 15 feet. This setting seemed to be appropriate for all lenses evaluated - 25, 35 and 50mm.

[1.08 lb] Using the SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter
with my SLR Magic Hyper Prime 25mm T0.95 cine lens (also purchased from B&H) is a really nice combination.
The two really work well together. The images are amazing. For the price you can't go wrong. I find that SLR Magic lens are well made. Its really fun shooting and editing anamorphic content. Presently shooting lumix g9 (purchased from B&H) with latest firmware update.
