The TASCAM DA-6400 64-Channel Digital Multitrack Recorderfrom TASCAM DA-6400 64-Channel Digital Multitrack Recorderis a 64-channel digital multitrack recorder/player that records to an internal SSD caddy for live and event recording. With I/O options like MADI and DANTE, it is ideal for live recordings, event capture, or to a backup for critical DAW sessions. In addition, the DA-6400 is a suitable option for professional remote recording.

Furthermore, the recorder/player features an AK-CC25 hot-swappable caddy containing a 240GB TASCAM solid-state drive, and the caddy includes a USB-3 jack for stand-alone use. This allows you to hand the drive to the client to offload the BWAV-files into their DAW session. The DA-6400 records 64 tracks at 48 kHz/24-bit or 32 tracks at 96 kHz/24-bit. Also, included on the rear panel are SMPTE timecode, word clock, RS-422, parallel, and Ethernet connections.

The I/O options for the DA-6400 include the IF-MA64/EX interface card (sold separately), with both coaxial and optical MADI connections. This card contains a redundant coaxial connection so that MADI is passed through even if power is lost, making it an ideal backup recorder for DAW sessions. Additional cards (sold separately) include the IF-MA64/BN coaxial MADI card, IF-DA64 Dante card, and IF-AE16 AES/EBU card, with more to come.

In conclusion, the TASCAM DA-6400 combines high performance, flexibility, and complete reliability in a solid-state 64-track recorder.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are you able to use the Master outputs XLR and the 2 monitor outputs 1/4 jacks at the same time?

A: Yes, you can use both outputs at the same time.

Q: 2. Can you select individual lines to get phantom power so you can use dynamic and condenser mics at the same time?

A: Phantom power is either, all on or all off, to all channels.

Q: 3. Can I add a delay to the main or monitor outputs?

A: Not in the unit itself but you can add to individual channels or use an outboard delay on the output.

Q: 4. Purchased this mixer & so far so good. I primarily use it for video depositions, with 5 mic inputs. Does anyone know if it's possible to monitor the audio channel by channel?

A: There are no solo buttons on the Zoom LiveTrak L-8. But you could mute the other channels and just listen to the one you want.

Q: 5. When using ZOOM L-8 as an audio interface: can I record (in my computer) each input as a separate channel?

A: Yes. Each channel shows up in your audio software as inputs for a total of 12 (1-6 Mono, 7-8 Stereo, 9-10 Stereo & Main Mix). It also has 4 USB outputs for playback. I use mine with Logic Pro X to track instruments & vocals on the go since the board is USB bus powered.. NOTE: You will have to download drivers for Windows and MacOS.

Q: 6. Its any audio delay option?

A: Yes, the LiveTrak L-8 does have built-in delay and reverb effects and the delay effect can be synchronized with the tempo of your recording project.

Q: 7. Can I record via the USB output (into my laptop) while simultaneously using an analog (headphone) output into my video camera?

A: Yes, you can perform this kind of operation with the L-12.

Q: 8. Does this have a sound card such that you could use audio from the mixer in real time for a skype call or google meet?

A: Yes

Q: 9. Android phone attached to the mix-minus. usb-c adapter to trrs?

A: You can use a basic adapter like the Comica Audio CVM-SPX-UC 3.5mm TRRS Female to USB Type-C Audio-Interface Cable for Android (B&H # COCVMSPXUC) to connect your Android phone to the mix-minus TRRS input. The L8 comes with a TRRS cable to use together with the USB-C adapter.

Q: 10. Using this as an audio interface with StreamYard and Skype... guests hear an echo on theor end, but don't hear one from me. I don't hear the echo live, but do in recording. Any ideas? Using a MacBook Pro. Mic plugged into Input 1. Computer plugged into Input 7 (USB 1-2).

A: You will not be able to easily configure a mix minus to send via USB.

[BWF, WAV] Zoom is thinking like us musicians and what we need. A live mixer and a recorder plus 5 aux sends for headphones or monitors with effects is a game changer. It all ends up separately on an SD for post creative possibilities in you DAW.....wow

[BWF, WAV] Is it perfect? Probably not to everyone, but it is perfect for me. I am a drummer and I do a lot of multitrack recording. This product feels like the people at Zoom have been doing their research into how humans interact with their products. It is very easy to use, very easy to learn, everything makes sense, and with only a little bit of reading you can get up to speed very quickly. The quality of the board is great, especially for the cost. And the sound is incredible. Using the USB connection to a notebook running Logic Pro was completely uneventful... It just works (after uploading the driver) and it works exceptionally well. I haven't run into a single area where this board comes up short. Would buy again and again.

[BWF, WAV] So my band - Chimera - (https://open.spotify.com/artist/5lkJIQnKpJYciREbqQp6Jj) bought this Zoom recorder to record our rehearsals and live shows to then be able to mix and sweeten in Apple Logic down the road. It is working great! We record 8 tracks live into the Zoom on SD card and then I pop it out, into my Mac Studio and the tracks are right there to import into Logic. A little re-naming before importing and everything works perfectly. Still need to tweek some of the settings for recording specific instruments (bass) but overall - great right out of the box. Additionally, the customer service from B&H - as always - was superb. I had a few questions about the interface to my Mac Studio and other audio interface hardware, and the B&H folks showed me how I can turn the 12 tracks I have with the Zoom into 20 tracks with my other hardware. It would have taken me hours (if not longer) to figure that out. Thanks B&H.

[21 W] Im only using one stereo channel, but having the others available is a big plus.  The thing I like most is the ability to impromptu record when something in my messing around is worth recording.  Keep it routed and just press (rec) (play).

[64] Using this to record drums at home. It's perfect. Its my first mixer and so while I am a novice (and learning), this is absolutely perfect for my needs. Very easy to use, compact, and the recording function is everything. I really have no complaints whatsoever. I can see this board staying in my music world for a long time. Its a steal at the price. Very very happy.

[iPad ] This machine has quite a bit packed into it for the price, so if you do multi-track recording or live event stuff with complicated audio setups, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better bang for the buck. There is one annoying thing that WAS NOT mentioned in any of the manuals and that is that a lot of the individual control you have with things like EQ, effects, etc, are DISABLED if you put the sample rate into 96Khz instead of 48Khz. I spent an hour trying to figure that out since it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the official documentation.

I would also like to note that it would good for any user to distinguish controls for recording versus live output as the two are not necessarily one in the same.

[BWF, WAV] We put our own drive in one of these and it works great! Easy to take with you for post-production work after you're done capturing.

[16 / 24-Bit] Ive used it twice and have been very happy.  The audio quality is first rate, and the documentation is excellent.

Record the show, go home and load the files into my DAW.  Very easy, very reliable.  Completely satisfied.
