Built with the same materials and to the same precise specifications as the larger models, Leica 8x32 Ultravid HD-Plus Binoculars | High-Performance Opticsdeliver bright and clear high-contrast images across the entire field of view with true color rendition and virtually zero distortion. The smaller objectives reduce the overall size and weight for better portability and less muscle strain during long-duration viewing sessions, while still delivering competent low-light performance. The combination of the relative low 8x magnification and wide 62° apparent angle of view produces an immersive viewing experience that lends itself to long observation sessions.

Leica employs specially formulated SCHOTT HT glass, which increases light transmission especially in the blue-violet light band, improves color fidelity, and enhances low-light performance. Scratch- and abrasion-resistant High Durable Coating (HDC) and hydrophobic AquaDura coating on the outer lenses protect surfaces and cause water and oil to bead off for easier cleaning and clearer vision. The roof prisms feature P40 phase correction and proprietary High Lux System (HLS) coatings. These coatings virtually eliminate chromatic aberration for enhanced color rendition and increased contrast.

Complementing the optical performance are uncompromising construction details. To reduce user fatigue during long glassing sessions, the chassis is made of a lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy, with a high-tensile titanium center hinge axle. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled for fogproof performance and sealed to make the binoculars submersible to 16 feet. Ergonomic thumb indents on the bottom of the binoculars, coupled with protective rubber armoring, provide a comfortable slip-resistant grip. A lubrication-free focus system provides fast and precise focusing, with PETP-Discs to provide smooth movement throughout the broad operating temperature range.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would you explain the difference between the Leica 8X42 ultravid and the 8X42 noctivid? Are either armored?

A: The Ultravid HD-Plus is indeed based on an older mechanical and optical design that has been around for a long time. Its a true and tested performer. The Noctivid is Leica's newest optical and mechanical designs which many individuals at Leica Camera, Inc, worked on for over 6 years before introducing. It shows numerous easily noticeable improvements in performance over not only our existing Ultravid designs, but arguably has been referred to as the new performance benchmark for all. The Ultravid line is complete with 8 different models of full sized binoculars in 32 mm, 42 mm, and 50 mm objective lens models, while the Noctivid is only available in 8x42 and 10x42 models. Comparing apples to apples between the Leica 8x42 Ultravid HD-Plus, and the Leica 8x42 Noctivid binoculars, one immediately appreciates the Noctivids closer focus (almost 5 feet closer than the Ultravid product, down to near 6 feet) as well as the Noctivid's very obvious wider field-of-view (443 feet versus 389 feet at 1,000 yards). Especially when comparing in challenging lighting, the Noctivids superior light delivery is easily demonstrable and since delivered at very high transmission across the entire visible spectrum, the Noctivids high dynamic range lends itself to a seemingly unparalleled depth of focus front to back that offers amazing eye comfort. This feature also lends itself to a very quick focus system. With so much of the field from 50 feet to infinity in focus or near focus so at once, most users find they barely have to refocus and adjustments being made are mere degrees on the focus wheel. This means you are spending more time appreciating your subject in focus and less time trying to get the subject in focus.

Q: 2. Is the strap included?

A: Yes a Strap is included.

Q: 3. what is the difference between ultravid hd and trinovid ?

A: The Ultravids are slightly better quality. The build construction is better too. The Ultravids are also made in Germany, and the Trinovid's are made in Portugal.

Q: 4. Were are these MFG?

A: My Leica 10x42 Ultravid HD's are made in Germany. Says so on the unit. Some Leica optics are made in Portugal. Not all.

Q: 5. Does the "Open Box" model with all the accessories as the brand new model, including the same warranty?

A: The Open Box Model does not qualify for the Brand New Warranty.

Q: 6. I am looking for a high end -high quality Bino. I am down to this model Leica 10 x 42 and the Swarovski 10 X 42 swaroVision. Can anyone help with comparison info, especially if you have used these glasses? I will use these mostly for wildlife viewing and helping me find good images for wildlife photography. Thanks for your analysis. J.L.

A: Personally I would go with the Swarovski EL 10x42 SwaroVision Binoculars. I have compared both models side by side in a low light setting, and the Swaro's are superior. There is a slight brightness difference. Also there is more glass in both barrels of the Swarovski's. Build quality wise it's a better binocular too.

Q: 7. Are these binoculars made in Germany or Portugal?

A: These are not the same quality of the German made Trinovid in the old times. The Portugal copy of this renovated product line is performing at best as a $250-$500 bino from other manufacturers. If you are from a $100 bino this will for sure amaze you, but definitely not for someone own quite a few Leica optics. Just be aware...

Q: 8. The previous version, the Celestron Nobel 8X32 were said to have excellent eye relief for those who wear glasses. These seem to have narrower eye relief. What are other eyeglass weare's experiences with these binoculars?

A: We haven't really had any feedback other than positive. As in the reviews indicate. The Eye Relief is 15.6 mm.

Q: 9. Where are these manufactured?

A: The country of origin for the Meopta 12x50 MeoStar B1 Plus HD Binoculars BH #ME12X50MSB1P • MFR #573252 is the Czech Republic.

Q: 10. Does the cordura nylon carrying case have a shoulder strap?

A: Yes it dose

[4 mm] Before buying this pair of binoculars I have owned a pair of Trinovid BA 10 x 42 for about 15 years. The Trinovids are great binoculars, and I could have been happy with them for the rest of my life. Then Leica came out with the Ultravid HD 10 x 42 and I read reviews saying they were an improvement. I just had to see for myself, thinking I would return them if they did not match the praise. Well, they are everything people say about them, much lighter feeling, significantly brighter in low light, and very ergonomically designed. In short, the Ultravid HD's are just great and I am pleased. It is nice to have this extra pair of 10 x 42's so I can let others use the old pair and not be too nervous.

[8x] I use these for birding and wildlife watching. I've owned bins by Nikon, Canon, and older Leicas. The Ultarvid HD have the highest resolution and least distortion of any of the binoculars I've owned. Once adjusted, they are very easy on the eyes.

[32 mm] Great Binos. Amazing in low light. Granted they are big but you really get the worth out of the 50mm lenses in late evening and early morning. Perfect in deep woods.

[4 mm] The combination of size, weight and optical quality makes it an ideal binocular on trips, when you are on longer walks (hunting, photo) with other heavy euipment to carry. Very impressed with the optical quality (I have a few other high quality binoculars from before). No strain on your neck after a long day in the field.

[8x] Have spent over 25 years doing nature photography semi-professionally. Always had a nice pair of 10X binocs with me (a major 'alpha' brand, Nitrogen filled, BAK-4, Porro, etc) and always believed that any money spent was best spent on camera lens glass - Leica, Zeiss, Nikon, Canon L. Well, after a quarter-century I came to realize I was wrong, and that I have deprived my now aging eyes of the lost glory of nature watching rather than imaging, and just getting the camera shot. Just bought a pair of the 10X50 Ultravid HD's from B&H. WOW!. Have spent hours looking at birds and only now appreciating the phenomenal clarity, brightness, definition and 3-D sparkle these binocs provide. Earlier today, savoring the pupil/iris definition in a Great Blue Heron at 100 feet. Just finished watching small spheres of sleet bouncing off a nuthatch's wings at 50 feet. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER! . . . yes, they are expensive, but IMHOpinion, well worth it. Thanks Leica, and thanks B&H for getting them to me so quickly

[32 mm] These binoculars a great. They are quite small for such a great view. Very sharp. Because of their size I will use them over 10x42's.
