Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How easy is it to take apart/collapse for transport?

A: It's a pretty quick set up even by one's self. I like that all 3 parts fit into the same bag which is still only as long as a regular stand.

Q: 2. I purchased this and it came with no assembly instructions, and their website links to instructions that are 404 Not Found. Any pointers?

A: Easiest we have found is to take legs first side by side and pull down on tripod legs to unlock. That allows spread for base. Set to width you need so height and width of tripod are same and tighten screws hand tight to lock. Build the height on each leg from bottom up then adjust height from top down and lock by tightening screws. When legs match at height you want unscrew locking screw on one end of cross bar and adjust to width you need . Twist gently to lock crossbar. Add drop and secure both ends of crossbar on legs by setting hole on top of crossbar and tightening screw to hold. To take down just remove crossbar , lower legs and collapse tripod. No need to remove screws just loosen.

Q: 3. Can the crossbar support a 107" x 36 background paper ?

A: Yes, the cross bar in this kit can support a seamless paper roll that is 107 inches wide by 36 feet long.

Q: 4. Is this crossbar more stronger then the Manfrotto 272B? Can I buy the Photoflex crossbar individually without the stands?

A: The overview says 40 lbs is for the stands. It does not give it for the cross bar. Comparison based on specs is only meaningful if you know both specs use the same criteria. B&H should answer this question.

Q: 5. How many pounds can the cross bar support?

A: The crossbar can support approximately 10-15lbs.

Q: 6. Is this the best possible backdrop stand for this price range?

A: I think so, based on all the research I did and my ownership of this stand. Yes, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. I've owned less expensive stands that are fine for 5x7 backdrops, but when I need to use my 10x20 heavy duty backdrop I pull this sucker out. It is very sturdy and stable even fully extended up/across, and there is no sagging. I recently used it and the large backdrop to photograph a family of 15...no problems, no worries it would fall. Comes in a decent carrying bag as well, and unlike others of similar width, this one collapses down small enough to fit in the car (others have fixed 12' crossbars). I'm very pleased with it, it was money well spent. I don't think I'll need to purchase another backdrop stand - this will work with everything I have and could ever want to use with it!

Q: 7. Are the stands in this kit air cushioned?

A: No, these stands are not air-cushioned. Also, the tightening action of the clamps is less than desired. We've been using them, and they suit our purpose, but I wish I had spent more on a superior set of stands. Hope this info is helpful.

Q: 8. are the spokes of the umbrella white or silver?

A: They are white fiberglass.

Q: 9. Does this require a speedring for the specific light being used with it? How does it attach to the light?

A: This does require a light specific speed ring. The speedring will lock to the face of the light in various ways depending on the design.

Q: 10. Is this better or worse than the Manfrotto Free Standing version? The price is about the same.

A: This unit can go to 12 feet high and 12 feet wide. The Manfrotto you mentioned https://bhpho.to/2V3hcr7 is 7.7' high and 9 feet wide. The build quality of both systems is good.

[Crossbar] Initially I felt it was a bit pricey,
Now after using it, it's worth the price!
It is sturdy and light, easy to be put in place by a single individual.

My guess is you can rate it by the fact that I'm likely going to buy a second one.

[1] IT fits the way I work. I'm always getting jobs that require something bigger than a pop up. This is a solid one piece solution to hanging a 10 foot backdrop. It fits on a baby pin so any most C/stands, baby or combo stands can hold it. It's beefy enough to take take the weight of a large backdrop along with the sandbags and bungees you use to take out the backdrop wrinkles.

[Muslin] Great portable backdrop pole. Light enough but strong enough to do the job. With two stands and a backdrop, you have a set.

[Muslin] Great option for someone who already owns light stand. Seems sturdy not flimsy. Only used one time.

[Muslin] Instead of buying an standard background kit I decided to buy 2 c-stands because they are 100 times more sturdy and you can use them for many other things when you are not using the background like supporting very expensive light. The kits usually come with stands that will not be suitable for holding expensive equipment. The problem of this alternative is that most of the background poles will require extra adapters for the top of the C-stand. This Background pole has a very wide hole that fits perfectly on C-stands. Too bad that it is discontinued.

[1] I purchased this backdrop pole to use for location portrait sessions. It's sturdy when used with a 10x20' muslin backdrop, and extends to 12' if needed.
