Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the cold shoe on this work with a Nikon SB-5000 speedlight?

A: Yes.The Phottix Varos Pro BG Multi-Function Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder is a universal cold shoe mount. The Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight will work with the Phottix Varos Pro BG Multi-Function Flash Shoe Umbrella Holder.

Q: 2. How do you remove the metal insert at the bottom?

A: Loosen the knob and push the metal button. It should fall out.

Q: 3. Can you mount an LED 1 x 1 panel on this?

A: By taking off the shoe mount or adjusting the arrangement of included adapters it can work with a variety of LED lights.

Q: 4. is this compatible with Yongnuo speedlight?

A: Yes it is compatible with all the flashes since it is cold shoe, and a very nice build.

Q: 5. Only nit is the umbrella clamp is not shaped to firmly hold the smallest shaft umbrellas So does this mean it won't hold umbrellas with the small shaft or that it holds them in a sloppy manner??

A: I was unaware of any thing smaller than 7mm. It is designed to hold 7-10mm. What I really appreciated about the Varos was the curved pad that fit up against the umbrella shaft, I already have a bunch of umbrellas with dents made by my lesser holders. Looking at the pad that fits against the umbrella shaft, it would be a simple thing to add a shim the give proper contact should the shaft be narrower.

Q: 6. Does this device work with MIS (shoe E-mount flash guns) flashguns? I'm trying to get a umbrella setup.

A: The Sony Interface foot will fit into the cold shoe of the Varos.

Q: 7. will this work on Paul Buff LS-3900 light stands?

A: If they have typical stud.... Yes it will work.

Q: 8. i saw pictures online that the flash is mounted flat on the mount. Can the flash be mounted on the side? in order words the narrow part of the flash against the flat surface of the mount.

A: Yes. You can rotate the flash around in the holder. This will allow using the flash head pivot to point the light UP, Down, or left or right sides.

Q: 9. Can you remove the hotshoe?

A: Yes. Note the thumb screw at the top-side of the holder.

Q: 10. It says it supports 62lbs is this missing a decimal point? Serious question - it would be great if this did in fact support heavy lights.

A: These are very heavy duty and can easily support the weight as long as the stand can. I have used them with studio monolights, LED panels, as well as the more typical use of speedlights.

[0.66 lb] The M size holds the Manfrotto Trifold Umbrella (35.4) with a 10mm shaft perfectly (I assume the BG does as well). No more using bongo ties to attach that umbrella to Godox S mount brackets!

This is a hefty mount and not the best choice if you're building an ultralight travel kit, but it is compact and sturdy. It could probably be used for self defense if needed, and feels solid and reliable. The plastic ring that tightens the cold shoe mount down is a likely weak point in this otherwise solid design. The ratcheting angle adjustment is also a drawback as others have mentioned, but not necessarily a deal breaker.

[55 lb (25 kg)] I bought one of these about 2 years ago not realizing just how versatile it really is.

I've since used to for off-camera flash and speedlites, umbrella mount, and even for a 2nd camera mount.

It's a very heavy duty item that will likely outlast anything else I own.

I highly recommend it.

[55 lb (25 kg)] A very well made bracket, that is worth the extra money. I really love the safety mechanism that prevents it from coming off the stand even if, the screw comes loose.

[55 lb (25 kg)] Very sturdy, can definitely hold a lot of weight. The locking mechanism very smooth and I wish was used on more products like this.

My one complaint is the quality of the screws, their handles are pretty cheap plastic and feel like they'll break if I twist too hard; They haven't broken though and would be easy enough to replace, so in my opinion doesn't detract from the functionality of the product.

It would be better if it had longer, metal screw handles, for both the tilt mechanism and tightening the spigots/umbrellas (like the Impact CA-108). I think it would be worth it even if they had to increase the price.

[0.66 lb] I'm a newbie when it comes to umbrella holders, so it took a bit of hunting to figure out what was included in the kit before buying as the description Phottix offers is severely lacking unless you watch their video. A lot of thought was put in to this design and I was pleasantly pleased how well this holder works.
For the nerds out there, this is cast from 383 aluminum alloy.
