Palmer's Monicon L Passive Monitor Controller is an analog device that connects computers or audio interfaces, via stereo aux inputs (L/R RCA sockets, and a 3.5mm TRS jack for unbalanced inputs) or stereo inputs with combo XLR-1/4" balanced sockets, to two sets of self-powered monitors. The power supply is used for the LEDs, which indicate input and output selection, and for the headphone amplifier. The layout makes switching and level changes easy, with its push-button switches and large volume and headphone knobs.

You can A/B outputs one and two, or listen to both simultaneously using output selector switches. The mono XLR output is always active and enables you to connect an additional speaker or sum a stereo output. PFL mode facilitates stereo and main aux input monitoring regardless of onboard level settings.

Q: 1. Purpose to record sound comes out from mixer and goes into DSLR or mobile phone with best balanced audio. Is Saramonic AX1 ok?

A: The Saramonic AX1 Passive 2-Channel Audio Mixer has independent volume controls for the left and right channels that allow you to achieve the proper balance for your recording with either mono or stereo output. The mixer can be used for cameras, smartphones, tablets, computers, or just about any audio application where you need to record the two input signals to one input and either separate the two channels for a stereo signal or mix them together for a dual mono signal.

Q: 6. The Kopul version of this had a cold shoe mount that was terrible adn would disassemble in the field when the screw fell out of the bottom from too much stress of mounting receivers on it. Does this product suffer the same problem?

A: I worked with Saramonic for 2-years and that whole time, I have not seen any defects of this product, or heard of an issue like you describe. I also have 2 in my possession for those 2-years and had no issue. My best suggestion is to try the item for yourself and if it's not up to your standards, return it for a refund or another product. We also offer a one-year warranty for full replacement if there's any problem. I think you're going to be happy with the product.

[2.5 lb / 1.1 kg] As a professional on-location recording engineer, I needed a simple, yet accurate monitor controller between the digital recorder, and the active monitors. Not only did I find this device was well built in Germany, but has high quality components which provides excellent channel tracking which is extremely important. This little device does exactly what its suppose to do. I couldn't be happier with this device, or ask for anything more. You really get a lot of quality for the modest cost of this unit. I'm extremely pleased!

[+20 dB] The build quality of this monitor controller is really what impressed me the most. The actual unit itself is pretty simple; it's only a knob and two buttons, and it's passive. From what I can tell after some simple A/B testing, it's completely transparent. That being said, I would not trust the stereo balance at the extreme low positions (-36 or -85). This isn't a fault of the unit, it's just the nature of a potentiometer. To have 100% perfect stereo balance throughout the entire range of the knob's travel, you would need to spend over $1000, so this will provide excellent results for all but the most discerning studios. Let's be real here, you're not buying this if you're in a million dollar studio.

If you're like me and thinking about buying a cheaper controller (I'm willing to bet I know which M brand and B brand you're looking at! ), spend the extra money and get a product that's made with quality materials and actually has detailed specifications provided from the manufacturer. You'll be glad you did.

[Passive] I was looking for a monitor controller with plenty of i/o and handy features at a decent price and this definitely fit the bill. Phase meter and integrated talk back mic are nice touches. There are a couple of different options for configuring the selection of speakers which are very useful in quickly swapping between different set ups.

[11.3 x 5 x 3.9"] I use this to control my active mixing monitors and it does what it's supposed to. No noise, a comfortable volume knob, the option of mono or mute, it fits right in. Good quality construction as far as I can tell, so if you need a passive control, this one is worth the money.

[Powder-coated] I recently upgraded my studio with a 16-in/16/out audio interface, but with no headphone jack and no monitor control. This little box solved my monitor control issue perfectly. Extremely transparent to my ears, very solid build, all the controls have a nice feel to them, and great looks. The wood sides are more of a walnut color than what's shown on the website, which was perfect. Highly recommended.

[600 Ohms] I replaced a TC electronic level pilot and I was concerned it would not be much of a change. No concerns now - better bass, better definition and a mute button - I am really glad I upgraded

[2.5 lb / 1.1 kg] I compared the listening with attenuator ATTY of A designs. Monicon seems more open and transparent. The case is also solid and of an interesting design. Very satisfied with this product.

[10 Hz to 40 kHz] Needed a monitor station when my well known big knob controller finally became unusable. The Palmer Monicon XL is a definite improvement, not only in function but in audio performance. Everything sounds better! Simple user interface has a lot of functionality with the setup options.
