Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the highest install height above ground for this product? And what is the optimal install height?

A: The sky is the limit if you have the output to support it. optimal install height is determined by output of lighting.

Q: 2. Wait, is this a "diffuser" or a "reflector"? I'm looking for something white that I can use for under-chin shadow help

A: The Westcott BASICS Sunlight/White 40" 2-in-1 Reflector is a reflector only. This can be used to reflect light under a model's chin.

Q: 3. Do you have a estimated date the manufacturer will ship these to you?

A: I apologize, but this type of request cannot be taken care of through this feature of our website. Please contact our Customer Service department by entering Live Chat, emailing directly to cs@a href= http://bhphoto.com, target= _blank bhphoto.com,/a or calling us toll-free at 800.221.5743.

Q: 4. 18% gray or 50%? I received my order today and next to a wallet size gray card I have, the difference is dramatic. 180+ reviews say it works fine, but I'm still interested to know if it's 18% or if I possibly received a different model.

A: I have a few different gray cards and I have found it depends on the material it is printed on. I have one on card stock that is different than this one. What I have found is that the camera can tell the difference on the card stock due the gloss/shine that comes off it in the sun/bright light. If you stick to one like I do now I dont find it to be a problem when I use the white balance in Lightroom or PhotoShop. Since I only use one now my white balance is consistent.

Q: 5. Does this unit have a pass thru data port on the back so you can connect another unit in line with it?

A: There is no pass through on this unit.

Q: 6. Is the sunlight color shown on this reflector the same shade of sunlight as shown on product #WE1048N ?

A: I assume you mean the #1408N. The fabrics are different as this 40 reflector has a zigzag of silver and gold fabrics to produce a warmer look while the 1048 is a solid warm sunlight color. Resulting color temperatures reflected will be warmer from both, and similar, but not exactly the same.

Q: 7. When should I use the grey side or the white side of a white balance card?

A: You should use the grey side of the card to set a starting point for your exposure. Place the card in the same light that is on your subject, fill the view finder of your camera with the grey side of the card or use a hand held spot exposure meter and set the aperture and shutter speed that is appropriate for the ISO you are using. That exposure setting is a close average exposure for the bright and dark portions of your subject. Bracket that exposure setting if necessary to get the results that you want. Use the white side of the card to set a custom white balance for the light that is on your subject. Place the card in the same light that is on your subject and fill the view finder with the white side of the card. Refer to your camera's instruction manual to set a custom white balance. I hope this helps.

Q: 8. What is the purpose of autofocus reference lines on this card? If focusing is unnecessary to set the exposure, why are the reference lines printed on the card? Some gray cards do have autofocus reference lines, while others to do not. I can't understand this.

A: The autofocus lines are mainly to compose while your taking a reading. It makes more sense for a model to hold the target and to be in focus.

Q: 9. What sort of lights do you recommend for installation?

A: The Chimera F2X 10 x 30' Light Bank can be used with lights such as the SmallRig RC 450D COB Daylight LED Video Monolight, BH # SM3970. https://bhpho.to/3ZFcmQw

Q: 10. Is B&H selling the newer AC-LR units (datecode 1638 and beyond) that are capable of 802.3af PoE or do they still require 24V?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-LR-US 802.11ac Long Range Access Point B&H # UBUAPACLRUS is 24V but it can be used with PoE.

[74-80+] The thing is massive, I'll say that. But it does it's job and does it well. Haven't had the chance to try it at extreme ranges, but it turns the night to day.

[6500 K] This really lights up the target area. It was well worth the purchase price. Just realize that it's a large, heavy light.

The mount is cheaply made. I don't know who they have making it, but it doesn't have the ATN quality that I expected. I had to re-tap the screw holes just to get it mounted. The adjustments are a little awkward and with heavy recoil it tends to move.

[123' (38 m)] I upgraded from the illuminator provided with my scope , to the Supernova. As expected it gave me greater range. The unexpected bonus was the better duration of the battery. With the original, I had to change out batteries during a night's hunt. With this I have not. Finally, I own several ATN products and have found your technical support and customer service to be superb. Sign me a loyal and satisfied customer.
