Customize your tone and capture quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the RODE NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone with Auray Windshieldbattery- or phantom-powered shotgun microphone. Specialized features such as low-noise circuitry, digitally switchable pad and frequency settings, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in post production.

The elevated sensitivity of the NTG4+ allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG4+ delivers warm sound due in part to its gentle dip in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing selectable low-cut filter. A switchable treble boost is on hand for situations where additional clarity is needed.

The combination of the 10.9" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused front-facing directionality and enhanced attenuation of sound entering from the sides. Its low self-noise of 16 dBA and sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

Operate the NTG4+ on 48V phantom power or via its internal rechargeable lithium battery, which provides up to 150 hours of run time. The micro-USB port and supplied USB cable enable easy recharging in just two hours—charge the NTG4+ via a computer, power brick, or vehicle. Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output, the NTG4+ is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

Digital switching not only allows for intuitive access to the mic's settings, but it also retains their states when the mic is switched off. Activate the 75 Hz low-cut filter to reduce low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Use the +6 dB treble boost for enhanced clarity and intelligibility (best for environments with minimal high-frequency ambient noise). When loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording, switch on the -10 dB pad to attenuate the input level.

The lightweight, metal-bodied NTG4+ includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG4+ in the Rode SM4-R shockmount or Rode PG2-R pistol grip (both available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations in boompole or handheld applications.

The NTG4+ has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this pole aluminum or carbon fiber?

A: K-Tek - KE-89CC Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal XLR Cable

Q: 2. Are there any audio quality differences between the NTG4+ and NTG?

A: Both are excellent

Q: 3. Which is the best option between the 3? NTG2, NTG4 or Sennheiser MKE 600

A: Having owned the NTG2, NTG4+, and used the NTG3 quite a bit, I can tell you they are very different microphones. If you can afford the NTG3 it will give you the most sensitivity. Too much at times. The NTG2 is inexpensive and can hold a AA battery for phantom power, but has no off switch. This is why I purchased the NTG4+. The internal battery lasts a full day and can be turned off when not in use. I like Sennheiser, but have not owned a shotgun from them, so can not offer an honest opinion.

Q: 4. I am looking to use this with a Saramonic SmartRig with a TRRS to TRS adapter to avoid buying the Sony XLR-K2M. Will it work?

A: The RODE NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer with the 3.5mm TRRS connector. It may also be compatible for connection to the 3.5mm TRS mic input on your DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you are only going to use the NTG4+ mic with your camera, you can connect the mic directly to the camera's 3.5mm mic input. Power the mic with its internal battery and use a cable with XLR female and 3.5mm TRS male connectors like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 1.5' (B&H # KOXRSM015B), which is a good length for mounting on the camera, or use a longer length if you want to use the mic off-camera, on a boompole or stand.

Q: 5. When I have the microphone plugged into my H4n, I have to turn the audio in the H4n almost all the way up, which sounds terrible because of the white noise. I have to do the same thing when I have it plugged into my DSLR. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? People have been saying this mic sounds great, but I'm not getting that. It sounds like a $60 mic for me.

A: Hi Cody. Are you using 48v phantom power from your Zoom or are you using the built in battery of the mic? I would suggest NOT using the -10db pad on the mic to ensure you are sending out the best signal from the mic to your device. If you still cannot get a decent level please send us an enquiry at a href= http://rode.com/contact target= _blank rode.com/contact/a and we can help further.

Q: 6. Is PSC A4812 48V Phantom or Sennheiser 12TP48 going to work with Ntg4? I'm looking for something similar or smaller than a box shaped power supply. Thank you.

A: It looks like those should work fine with this unit.

Q: 7. I'm new to shotgun microphones and need some info. What are the scenarios(preferably with examples) where I'd need to absolutely use the battery power of NTG4+? My camera is Sony a7II and recorder would be Zoom H5. The shotgun will mostly be used in a boom setup but it'd be nice to use it on-camera sometimes. I understand that NTG4+ has both Phantom and battery power. Is there are reason to pick the NTG4+ over the NTG4, in my scenario? Is there any advantages/disadvantages of using battery power over phantom power or vice versa?

A: The only time you would require the battery power of the NTG4+ is if you did not have access to phantom power. Powering via phantom power is usually preferred by most as it is one less battery to worry about. Also, there may be some coloration to the tonal characteristics of the NTG4+ microphone as the battery depletes, where as the NTG4 is receiving constant power thru another source; in your case the Zoom H5. Keep in mind if you are powering the microphone with phantom power by way of the Zoom H5, the battery time usage on the recorder will be affected.

Q: 8. is it includes these microphone wind shild

A: It actually comes with the foam windshield. It will the do the job inside, but it's not very effective outside. I recommend buying a separate windshield.

Q: 9. When do you expect to ship these?

A: The Rode NTG4+ is currently available and shipping.

Q: 10. Issue invoices to Mexico?

A: Yes this is available for shipping to Mexico.

[Black] I asked my voiceover agent to help me put together a home setup that would not only produce good sound for auditioning, but in the age of Covid, good production to actually record the job. The NTG4 shotgun mike along with my Scarlett Interface is what he recommended and they're excellent.

[75 Hz ] the quality on this microphone is awesome and the extra features built right in make it easy to handle most environments I'm in. Couldn't be happier with this!

[75 Hz ] As a newbie to location sound, I was looking for best value for my limited budget. At $400, the NTG4 was a great purchase for me. I just used it for a location shoot where we had a nearby 55mph highway, low flying private airplanes, approach vector for passenger jets and neighbors who have tractors and guns to use. Takes that I would have sworn were irreparably compromised turned out fabulous with the NTG4. I was being cautious with the gain settings, so self-noise wasn't a real issue, but so far I'm loving this mike. I've seen the reviews comparing the NTG4 to the NTG3 and I agree that for someone with the budget and a discerning ear, the NTG3 is probably the better option. For someone like me, who is just starting out, you can't go wrong with the NTG4.

[Supercardioid] A big step up from my old (20+ years) Audio-Technia.
Very quiet and has a nice, full sound. The low cut filter takes out all the boom/stand noise.
Like that it remembers your settings.

[Supercardioid] After using the NTG4, I'm wondering why I didn't buy one a long time ago. It performs better than far more expensive mics in terms of sensitivity, directional pattern, and tone response.

The NTG4 has become my favorite mic for use in field recording for documentaries, and news gathering.

( I use it with a Zoom H4N Pro, which has phantom power available.... but if your recorder or camera doesn't have it, the NTG4+, which has an on-board battery, is a better choice. )

[End Address] The price on these seems to fluctuate a lot.
I got this one on sale and actually bought an NTG4+ six months later for a ten spot less.
Sound quality is very good. Off axis rejection is also pretty good.
The low pass filter does a great job of eliminating boom vibration.
Impressive warranty too.
