Capture broadcast-quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the black RODE NTG3B Shotgun Mic with Auray Windshield Kitmoisture-resistant shotgun microphone. Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, upgraded immunity to radio-frequency interference, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in postproduction.

The NTG3B's high sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG3B delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing attenuation of low bass frequencies. Its switch- and dial-free design lets you set up quickly and focus on the sound instead of fiddling with various mic settings. The solid brass housing is both durable and lightweight, and its anti-glare finish prevents reflections in the shot.

When your work takes you outdoors, you're bound to encounter humidity and condensation, which can cause many mics to fail. The NTG3B's RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, allowing you to reliably capture high-quality audio in normal and adverse environmental conditions. It also includes a weatherproof aluminum storage cylinder for maximum protection during travel.

The NTG3B was engineered for broadcast-quality sound, enhanced immunity to RF (radio frequency) interference, and low handling noise. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

The combination of the NTG3B's 10" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rejection behind the mic. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, the NTG3B is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The NTG3B includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG3B in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic.

The NTG3B has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Q: 1. I know for the fact that this mic uses A9 battery. is there anyway I can get rechargeable A9 battery for my mic ?thanks

A: You mean, 9 volt battery, Rechargeable, Yes. B&H # POMHR9VP - Powerex 9V Precharged Rechargeable NiMH Battery (9.6V, 230mAh) - That battery is a hassle to replace. Hope that helps!

Q: 2. Does the Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (7") fit a sennheiser MKE 300 mic ?

A: The Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (7"), BH # AUWSS2018, is not compatible with the Sennheiser MKE300 microphone.

Q: 3. Would like to run this mic off of my Sony a99ii camera power. Can this mic be adapted to run of of my camera power and if so what would l need to make it work?

A: There is nothing that would indicate that you can use external power on this mic. There are no external connections and only a place to put the 9v battery.

Q: 4. It's compatible with ECM-XM1?

A: The Auray WSS-2012 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones - 4.7" will fit on the Sony ECM-XM1 Shotgun Microphone, but since the WSS-2012 is 4.7" deep and the mic is only 6.5" long, the windshield may be a bit too long for the mic. As a better option, you can use the Rycote Standard Hole Classic Softie Wind-Screen - 3.9" Long, 0.7 to 0.8" Diameter Hole, Gray (B&H # RYS10M) or the RODE WS11 Windshield for VideoMic NTG Mic (B&H # ROWS11). The VideoMic NTG is about the same size as the ECM-XM1 so the windshield should provide a good fit.

Q: 5. How can I connect the Rode VideoMic Pro to my iPhone 8? Do I need another cable than the Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter?

A: The Rode SC4 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Adaptor, (B&H # ROSC4) would be required as well as the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter to connect the Rode VideoMic Pro to an iPhone 8.

Q: 6. Will this Mic work on a regular PC using Windows 7?

A: It is suggested to plug it into an audio interface first for the proper analog to digital conversion.

Q: 7. Purchase options include three wind-noise reduction components. What's the difference between the 'dead-cat windshield', the 'Auray windbuster' and the 'Rycote mini windjammer'?

A: Those are different manufacturers. They all are meant for the same purpose.

Q: 8. Does this work with Canon EOS 550D AKA Rebel T2i?

A: The Rode VideoMic Pro is compatible with the Canon T2I.

Q: 9. Does this mic work with the Canon 80D?

Q: 10. Can this mic be adapted to run of of camera power?

A: There is nothing to indicate that this is an option. There are no external connections for power, just a place to put the 9v battery.

[Supercardioid] I've been recording using my Rode VideoMicro and the upgrade to this has been insanely good. It's certainly not a fair comparison by any means, but the quality of the audio from this mic was extremely impressive. Absolutely love it!

[Mono] This setup has given me the tools to capture professional quality interviews and audio for social media posts as well as provide quality and durable protection for when I need to pack up and travel. The cables provided allow for a quick setup and flexible use with audio recorders and the Rode mic has a great dynamic range. The mic resonates well in the mid and high register which gives a clear and true-tone to voices being captured.
