The Radial McBoost Microphone Signal Intensifierfrom Radial McBoost Microphone Signal Intensifieris a high-quality microphone signal booster designed to elevate an output signal of a dynamic microphone or low-output ribbon mic and bring it up to a usable level for mixing consoles and preamps. It can be used for applications such as recording, broadcast TV, rehearsals, live stage, and more.

The 100% discrete Class-A design features a dual-transistor JFET circuit that produces up to 25 dB of gain via a 48V phantom power source without introducing noise, color, or artifacts. Measuring each individual transistor carefully, which is batch-sorted to certify performance, the circuit board is then placed into a 14-gauge reinforced steel enclosure to protect it from outside stresses.

Using standard 3-pin XLRs, the McBoost features three impedance settings to optimize the response. Finally, the McBoost will elevate the output to produce added clarity, excitement, and drive for long cables, whether you're in a recording studio, on a live stage, or in a broadcast center.

Q: 1. since this is passive, does it only output mic level? Or can the outputs also be Line level?

A: The XLR pass throughs are mic level, and the 3.5mm audio outs are line level.

Q: 2. Can you connect this to an iPad for capturing audio while shooting video?

A: I use mine with an iPhone 7, via two adapters: an aftermarket TRS to TRRS and Apple's TRRS to Lightning. It works great and I couldn't discern a difference in quality between recording with a Zoom H1 and the iPhone.

A: This broadcast audio splitter can be used a stand-alone unit, and only requires a balanced XLR input from a mixing board or other source. .

Q: 5. is this the same as the one for the X3?

A: No, although the Insta360 Microphone Adapter for X4 provides similar functionality as the Insta360 Microphone Adapter for X3, B&H # IN360X3MA, the X3 and X4 have different dimensions, so each of these adapters is designed differently to fit their respective camera models.

Q: 6. Can this unit accept a direct microphone feed from a press conference without a mult box? And is it powered by batteries?

A: The Radial Engineering Exo-Pod Broadcast Splitter with XLR & 3.5mm Connections is designed to accept a balanced line-level signal from a mixer or similar device. It does not require power.

Q: 7. Does this have built in isolation to eliminate handling noise?

A: Yes it does. All interview microphones have some type of shock mount in the handle to reduce handling noise when out in the field. Some are better than others.

There appear to be three settings for the high-pass filter: the switch can be positioned towards the front of the mic (bent line symbol), in the middle (straight line symbol), or towards the back of the mic (circle symbol). I gather the bent line represents "hi-pass filter on", the straight line "hi-pass filter off", but what does the circle setting do?

A: The circle setting turns the mic off.

Q: 10. Will this microphone work via AA battery and +48 if the internal battery has already died?

A: The NTG4+ does not operate on AA battery power. It features an internal rechargeable battery for power or can utilize phantom power.

[ V ()] I ordered this a week before a show where we needed to set-up a monitor mixing console for the artist. We ran all of the inputs into two of these and then split them to FOH and Monitors. Utilizing phantom power worked well and we didn't run into any issues. 5

[1] Splitting a mic is critical when you are in venues that you have no access to FoH for personal monitors. This splitter is built out of steel and is sonically transparent. Worth every penny. 5

[1] We were looking for a splitter to use on stage so we could run our own monitors and give the house a clean feed. 24 channel splitters cost a lot more than we were willing to pay at the time. A sound guy we worked with suggested getting 3 of these instead of a single 24 for a fraction of the cost. We did and the rest is history. We have tested these extensively while practicing and have used both the directs and the transformer feeds for our sound. We play loud country & rock and we couldn't tell the difference between the outputs. We've only played out with the new set up a couple of times, but so far it is everything we hoped for at a great price. We couldn't be happier. 5

[0.006%] This is just what we were needing to do remotes. we break off facility mixers and bring into our own mixer. It creates a lot of cabling but this is fine with different color cables. Just ordered the ARTs8 3 way to put in line in our studio. We will be using that to split our feeds and go to two separate programing computers. unit is 1ru and well made.
