Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi! I have TalentCell Rechargeable Lithium Ion 12V Power Bank batteries and Hirose cable connector. Is it possible to power the equipment that way? Will the Phantom Power of all tracks work? And all system functions? Thanks!

A: Hello Eisejuaz. The MixPre-10 II requires 10 to 18 volts of power at the hirose power port, so your 12-volt power bank should work perfectly. The MixPre-10 II should operate normally on 12 volts.

Q: 2. Do both batteries need to be mounted at the same time? The mixpre does not offer an option for a 7.4 watt power source-only the 14. Can I power with one and select that output? Or is it recommended to utilize both? If I can power with one battery at a time, what power setting do you recommend selecting?

A: I am not seeing an option for both batteries to be used at the same time.

Q: 3. what does 32-Bit (A/D Conversion) mean on the spec list, does it mean If I want to record 32-bit, I will need to connect it to computer?

A: The 32-bit specification refers to the amount of audio information the Sound Devices 833 8-Channel / 12-Track Multitrack Field Recorder is capable of capturing while recording in reference to bit depth. 32-bit recording captures more information mainly due to its floating-point format versus traditional fixed-point bit depths of 16 and 24 bit. This, in essence, allows for a much wider dynamic range to be captured and makes it hard to record clipped or distorted signals. Sound Devices publishes a useful article on their site that explains this in depth and can be found here: https://bit.ly/3SGcsE5

Q: 4. It is possible to power it with a dtap battery and a herose adapter?

A: Hi Dario. Sure, you can power the MixPre-10 II with a dtap battery w/hirose connector. Just make sure voltage from the battery is 10 - 18 volts.

Q: 5. Is it possible to use MixPre-10 II as an audio interface with studio monitors? For example, I want to connect MixPre-10 II with a PC via a USB and MixPre-10 II with studio monitors to listen to my editing sound.

A: Yes. You can use the MixPre10ii as just an audio interface. Your studio monitors would need to be attached the main outputs utilizing ta3 to xlr adapters, such as these BH #SOXL2.

Q: 6. Do I need a buy an external Time Code or the integrated one is good enough?

A: This unit has a built in time code generator, although it will sync if you prefer to use an additional generator.

Q: 7. Trying to use MX-LMount L-Series Battery Sled with two L-Series batteries connected, but when I power it on, all tracks on the MixPre-10 II start blinking/flashing red (on the ring LED around each track fader). I've tried using the battery sled with a pair of genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries, and also with a pair of genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries, and all of them are having the same problem. I have already switched the battery type to L-Mount in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. Batteries are fully charged. No other batteries/power sources are connected. Any idea what could be causing this?

A: I would suggest calling Sound Devices technical support.

Q: 8. does the Mix Pre ii it's possible record to a USB C flash drive?

A: According to Sound Devices approved media list; it is compatible with USB-C flash drives. https://www.sounddevices.com/mixpre-series-approved-media-list/

Q: 9. are you sure that the 2 x TA3 3-Pin Female Balanced Line Output are Female and not Male which is more logic?

A: They are male. Each port has 3 pins (not holes).

Q: 10. Does this only mix to stereo or can it upmix to 5.1?

A: The Sound Devices MixPre-10 II Field Recorder will only mix to stereo. For a 5.1 mix, you can upload the tracks to your computer's DAW.

[Polyurethane] We are a 3 piece band with a lot of big vocal harmonies. When we first plugged in our Lewitt mics we were very impressed with their quality, and the full range of sound that they produce. They are quiet, clear, and very responsive. A noticable improvement to the mics we were using before (the ones most bands use). If you want an absolutely great quality performing mic, you can't beat a Lewitt!!! [Polyurethane] Cable worked as expected. We use it for our field camera on football game days. We can move all over the field without a signal drop.

[MTP Male] Have only used it on a high gain guitar cab so far, but my first impression is that it does a great job capturing the amp tone, but sounds smoother than a 57 without sounding dull. I have it paired with a Royer 101 and after about 2 minutes of mic placement, it sounds killer. Overall, just seems to do what a 57 does, but with less harshness. Sometimes you may want that harshness though so, of course, you should have both. :)

[MTP Male] We use this to get audio/video to the front and back of large conference rooms, works great. The cable is only as thick as a single regular XLR cable.

[MTP Male] I have sung all over the world on many different microphones, and have found only 2 brands of microphones that I love. Lewitt is one of them. The sound is crystal clear, and it picks up all my dynamics. Highly recommended.
