Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi! I have TalentCell Rechargeable Lithium Ion 12V Power Bank batteries and Hirose cable connector. Is it possible to power the equipment that way? Will the Phantom Power of all tracks work? And all system functions? Thanks!

A: Hello Eisejuaz. The MixPre-10 II requires 10 to 18 volts of power at the hirose power port, so your 12-volt power bank should work perfectly. The MixPre-10 II should operate normally on 12 volts.

Q: 2. is it possible to use the ambeo in conjunction with additional microphones in inputs 5-8?

A: Yes. The Sennheiser AMBEO VR 3D Microphone BH #SEAVRM offers 4 Matched KE 14 Cardioid Capsules in Ambisonics A-format arrangement: 1: front-left-up (FLU) 2: front-right-down (FRD) 3: back-left-down (BLD) 4: back-right-up (BRU) Mixing to B-Format: W: FLU + FRD + BLD + BRU X: FLU + FRD - BLD - BRU Y: FLU - FRD + BLD - BRU Z: FLU - FRD - BLD + BRU A split cable 4XLR is included in the box..

Q: 3. Do both batteries need to be mounted at the same time? The mixpre does not offer an option for a 7.4 watt power source-only the 14. Can I power with one and select that output? Or is it recommended to utilize both? If I can power with one battery at a time, what power setting do you recommend selecting?

A: I am not seeing an option for both batteries to be used at the same time.

Q: 4. Trying to use MX-LMount L-Series Battery Sled with two L-Series batteries connected, but when I power it on, all tracks on the MixPre-10 II start blinking/flashing red (on the ring LED around each track fader). I've tried using the battery sled with a pair of genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries, and also with a pair of genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries, and all of them are having the same problem. I have already switched the battery type to L-Mount in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. Batteries are fully charged. No other batteries/power sources are connected. Any idea what could be causing this?

A: I would suggest calling Sound Devices technical support.

Q: 5. Do the Benro KoalaPod Single Legs fit/screw into the Benro Tablepod?

A: The Benro KoalaPod Single Leg (Male and Female Screw Threads) only fits the Benro Koalapod.

Q: 6. Is it best practice to turn off phantom power before turning off the device in beginner mode? Thank you for your time.

A: You do not have to turn off the phantom power before turning on the MixPre-10 II. It is advisable that you do not have the phantom power turned on when only using dynamic mics, or battery powered mics, as it will consume more battery power from the recorder unnecessarily.

Q: 7. Is it possible to use MixPre-10 II as an audio interface with studio monitors? For example, I want to connect MixPre-10 II with a PC via a USB and MixPre-10 II with studio monitors to listen to my editing sound.

A: Yes. You can use the MixPre10ii as just an audio interface. Your studio monitors would need to be attached the main outputs utilizing ta3 to xlr adapters, such as these BH #SOXL2.

Q: 8. What bitdepth/sample rate can it record to SD if it's being used as an audio interface, say for livestreaming?

A: The MixPre-10 II can record at 32-bit float when connected to the computer as an interface. However, the sample rate depends on the capability of the computer and/or the software hosting the interface.

Q: 9. Can anyone recommend a wireless system to send audio from the balanced MixPre outputs to a BMPCC 6k Pro?

A: To send audio wirelessly from the balanced outputs on the Sound Devices MixPre-10 II Multitrack Recorder to a Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, you can use the Remote Audio Unbalanced Adapter Cable TA3F to 3.5mm Locking TRS for Sennheiser Transmitters (B&H # RECASENSK1TL) or the Cable Techniques RX-TRSBL Locking 3.5mm Male to TA3F Receiver Cable (B&H # CARXTRSBL) to connect the TA3 (3-pin mini-XLR) output from the MixPre-10 II to a Sennheiser EW series wireless bodypack transmitter or a similar type of wireless bodypack transmitter. For example, you can use a wireless microphone system like the Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System which will accept line level input signal. The Sennheiser system has only one channel, so you will need to purchase two of the Sennheiser systems if you want to send wireless audio from both the left and right outputs on the MixPre-10 II to the BMPCC camera. To connect the output from the wireless receiver to the TA3 input on the camera, you can use the Kondor Blue Mini-XLR Male to Locking 3.5mm Stereo Cable for BMPCC 6K & 4K (B&H # KOMINIPLSBK).

Q: 10. If I use two extra mics, and plug them into the mini inputs, is there a way to control the input level on those extra mics? I see only 8 input controls on the face of the unit.

A: The Mix-Pre-10 II has a single 3.5mm menu-selectable input that can be used for microphones with plug-in power, as an unbalanced line level stereo aux input, or for timecode. This aux input can be assigned as an input source for any of the channels which will allow you to use the level control for that channel to control the mic. The other 3.5mm connection next to that is a headphone output.

[12x ST Male] Cable worked as expected. We use it for our field camera on football game days. We can move all over the field without a signal drop.

[12x ST Male] I'm a fan of StarTech, and I wasn't disappointed. The one thing to note was that this cable is thankfully not an inch thick. I have another DVI-I cable that you couldn't chop through with a splitting maul, but this DVI-D cable is reasonably built which makes for much easier routing. Still thick, as DVI cables all are, but not suspension bridge thick.

[Single Mode] I have a reel with just one channel on it, but found out it's cheaper to buy this cable and just remove the bracket from the LC side. Comes right out without cutting anything.

[Single Mode] Perfect solution instead of re-ending long fiber runs. Product is well made and works great. Make sure you match the fiber mode.

[12x ST Male] In setting up my sound studio I needed to move the computer farther from the area in which the recording would actually take place. These cables are the perfect way to accomplish that. With the drone of the cooling fans now safely distanced, recordings are measurably better.

[Single Mode] I ordered these Thor Fiber units as a suggestion from a pal; boy am I glad I took his advice. These little babies are awesome! and for the price they can't be beat. On top of that they had awesome tech support and helped get my issue resolved pertaining to frame rate as soon as I called. I'll be using these for now versus spending a small fortune on Telecast every time I need a quick fix.

[OpticalCON] We use this to get audio/video to the front and back of large conference rooms, works great. The cable is only as thick as a single regular XLR cable.
