The gray Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic with 3.5mm Locking Connectoris a subminiature lav mic designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this little mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent—even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a locking 3.5mm connector and is wired for use with Sennheiser transmitters. Accessories are available separately and are not included with this configuration of the microphone.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this interface with a Smartphone?

A: There is an included TRRS output cable that you could connect to the headphone jack ( or headphone jack adapter) of your smartphone. This would allow for recording into the phone.

Q: 2. Purchasing two sets of this, would it be smart to buy one of each frequency range? Will both be good in NYC?

A: You can definitely use two of the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone Systems that operate on the same frequency band in New York City. The system has 3,520 auto-scan frequencies for the system to select from to transmit audio and up to 32 systems can be used simultaneously on the same band.

Q: 3. The manual says to set AF Out on the receiver to +18 dB. Is this true? Why not 0db?

A: In general, Camera preamps are not the best quality. +18db ensures that you will need the least amount of preamp gain possible, which will maximize the quality you capture with the camera.

Q: 4. If I'll buy 2 receivers and 2 transmitters, what else I would need to connect it to my DSLR camera? I need to connect 2 people at the same time and I'm intending to use it together with 2 of sanken cos-11d ( i have a NIKON D800 and a Nikon D850)

A: Hi Vasile - to use two receivers on your DSLR, you'll need to split the signals so that they are routed independently to the Left & Right channels of the stereo input on your camera. This can be done using a Stereo Y-cable (e.g. Hosa Technology Stereo 3.5mm Male TRS to Two 3.5mm Female TS Y-Cable (6")). Once captured, you'll need to split the signals in post from a stereo feed into to mono channels (Channel 1 = Left, Channel 2 = Right). Alternately, it may be worthwhile to look into a portable audio recorder as the preamp will be quite an improvement over the mic input on the camera - you can send your signal from the EW Receivers into a camera mounted recorder and use a stereo output to the camera while having much more control over your audio and monitoring with much better quality.

Q: 5. If I buy the model with the 3.5 connector for my camera can I use a 3.5 to Lightning adapter to also use it with my iPhone 8 or a 3.5 to USB-C adapter to connect it to my MacBook?

A: Yes, you can use the Saramonic LC-C35 for Lightning to you iPhone and the UTC-C35 for USB-C to your MacBook, BUT FYI, you can also just plug in the included TRRS cable into the headphone port on your MacBook too. We hope you enjoy it!

Q: 6. Does this has extreme wether proof design and RF rejection like NTG3 and Senn MKH416?

A: The Sanken is fairly robust in adverse weather, but it is not weather-proofed. Its directionality is comparable depending on the environment.

Q: 7. What’s the best mic for this unit? I’ve heard the included mic is average.

A: For me the best lav for the the G4 would be Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic, Normal Sens, Hardwired 1/8" TRS Connector for Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Transmitter. It is a fantastic lav this is the B&H part number B&H # SAC11WNSETRB.

Q: 8. How do we know which frequency range to get? Is there a list showing which frequency range is best for specific countries?

A: These Sennheiser products are offered as legal devices in the USA only. Please contact Sennheiser directly in the country you'll be using this product in to purchase the correct system. We do not ship Sennheiser wireless products overseas.

Q: 9. Does the receiver have a stereo output? Will I be able to separate the tracks or are they stuck together as one mono file?

A: Yes, the dual-channel receiver in the Polsen UWM-2 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System for Cameras and Smartphones (538 to 586 MHz) implements a stereo 3.5mm output and each transmitter signal can be separated out of the receiver via the provided cable options.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with a Panasonic AGUX90?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System is compatible for use with the Panasonic AG-UX90 UHD 4K Professional Camcorder.

[Plug-In Power] I had to return Rode Wireless Filmmaker Kit due to a mediocre SQ and was going through Sound Bible over and over again in search of an answer... I think I found it! Won't compare this two, but rather simply state that it cannot be better, I'm very satisfied with what this mic has to offer, and I'm willing to deal with cable until I find wireless system producing same results... Top notch craftsmanship and performance. VERY sensitive and requires only 9 o'clock gain on my SD MixPre-D for a strong clean signal. Love it!
