The beige Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic for Sennheiser Transmittersis a subminiature lav microphone designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this tiny mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a 3-pin LEMO connector and is wired for use with Sennheiser transmitters. Accessories are available separately and are not included with this configuration of the microphone.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Which Aurey Lavalier Accessory kit would go with this system (small or medium)?

A: B&H # AUWSBS6Q

Q: 2. Will the mic that comes with this (Sennheiser EW 512P) work with the AVX transmitter?

A: Yes. The MKE2 mic is an excellent mic and will work with both the EW512 P and AVX.

Q: 3. Which frequency would be best for Hawaii (specifically the North Shore of Oahu)? I see some frequencies aren't allowed in Hawaii? Maybe? A specific frequency would be appreciated.

A: There is no one frequency that is best to use all of the time. Any of the bands offered will work throughout Hawaii. The reason there are three bands is so that you can use many systems in the same space and at the same time. The receiver will scan for the best available frequency within that band to use at that time. You can use up to around 8 systems in the same band, in the same space and at the same time, before you would need to worry about switching bands for your next group of systems, to avoid interference with your first group of system.

Q: 4. What frequency is best for Qatar ( Middle East )

A: According to page 49 on the follwing page from Qatar's Frequency Allocation Table, frequencies for broadcasting wireless mics are allocated to 470 - 790 Mhz. Based on this, you can use any of the 3 frequency bands that the Sennheiser G4 system has to offer without any issues. https://www.motc.gov.qa/sites/default/files/qatar_national_frequency_allocation_table_qnfat_0.pdf

Q: 5. Can these lavalier be wirelessly connected to a soundboard?

A: Yes. The Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System can be connected to a soundboard (mixer). The system comes with two receiver output cables, one with a 3.5mm connector and one with an XLR connector. You can use the cable with the XLR connector to send the output from the receiver into a mic input on the board.

Q: 6. Can I split the AF OUT of the EK500 with a 'Y' cable, run one side to my FX6's XLR, the other, to an onboard mini recorder? Thx.

A: Yes, you can use a Y-cable to split the output from a Sennheiser EK 500 Receiver to send the audio to two different devices, like two separate audio recorders, cameras, mixers, etc. You can use a cable like the Saramonic SR-UM10-CC1 3.5mm TRS to Two XLR Male Output Y-Cable for Wireless Mic Systems (B&H # SASRUM10CC1), or use an adapter like the ALZO 3.5mm Female to Dual XLR Male Stereo Microphone Adapter Cord for Pro Camcorders (B&H # AL130) together with the 3.5mm receiver output cable and, if needed, additional XLR cables to extend the length.

Q: 7. What’s the best mic for this unit? I’ve heard the included mic is average.

A: For me the best lav for the the G4 would be Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Mic, Normal Sens, Hardwired 1/8" TRS Connector for Sennheiser Evolution Wireless Transmitter. It is a fantastic lav this is the B&H part number B&H # SAC11WNSETRB.

Q: 8. How do we know which frequency range to get? Is there a list showing which frequency range is best for specific countries?

A: These Sennheiser products are offered as legal devices in the USA only. Please contact Sennheiser directly in the country you'll be using this product in to purchase the correct system. We do not ship Sennheiser wireless products overseas.

Q: 9. Does this work with a Panasonic G85 or G95 camera?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System would work with the Panasonic Lumix G85 Mirrorless Camera, as the camera has the necessary 3.5mm microphone input connection. The EW 112P G4 includes an adapter to mount the receiver onto the camera shoe, as well as the appropriate cable to connect the receiver's output to the camera's input. It does not appear that the Panasonic Lumix G95 Mirrorless Camera has the necessary 3.5mm microphone input connection, however.

Q: 10. What's the latency?

A: The manufacturer has not provided any specifications for latency for the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System.

[Omnidirectional] I devoted a lot of time to researching lavalier microphones before I settled on the Sanken COS-11D. I looked and listened to all of the on-line comparisons I could find and read the technical data. I wanted top sound quality for spoken voices and different options to conceal the microphone. B&H had the XLR connector model in stock and it fulfills all of my wishes. Additionally I have a Sony ECM-55B lavalier, a great mic with a long reputation (and also a great deal from the B&H Used store) but it is relatively large in size. Ive tested the Sony vs the Sanken in different environments and bottom line, the Sanken is the clear winner for overall sound quality. it is that much cleaner and crisper with a lively presence and brightness, even when tucked behind a collar. I will buy another one of these if/when I need another lavalier.

[Plug-In Power] My favorite lav. Love the sound, low noise floor, and they are easy enough to hide. Perfect all around.

[3 to 10 V] Clear, crisp sound. Works perfect with our Sennheiser Evo Wireless. The amount of ambient noise this mic rejects is unbelievable. May seem pricey, but it's extremely well worth it!

[Beige] Normally, I record with XLR mics, the Tram TR50 or Sennheiser MKH416, onto a Sound Devices 702. Pretty high quality setup. This microphone takes the Sennheiser wireless packs from terrible (with the included ME2 mics) to pretty good. (that's supposed to be a compliment) Perhaps a bit hot on the high end, but so much crisper and clearer than the ME2s. Worth the money.

[Beige] I've been wanting to get one of these for years but the cost has prevented me. My Sennheiser MKE1 (which I Loved!) finally went out on me so I'm went with this next. So far I Love it!!

[Beige] I use these mics on portable recorders to capture audio, primarily, for weddings/events. They have a wide area of acceptance and the sound is crisp and bright. People often won't bat and eyelash at dropping thousands on new glass for their cameras so in comparison these are extremely cheap and an extremely good investment. Especially considering how important audio is in video production.
