This 21mm f/1.4 lens is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 31.5mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is ideal for working in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over your focus position for selective focus applications.

One extra-low dispersion element and three aspherical elements are incorporated within the lens design and help to control chromatic and comatic aberrations, as well as reduce color fringing, for sharper, clearer imagery.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to all lens elements in order to suppress lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy.

This manual focus lens has a non-rotating 58mm front filter mount to better enable the use of polarizing, graduated ND, and other filter types that require precise positioning. Additionally, its internal focus design maintains the overall length of the lens during use.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi! Can you use Catalyst stabilization with FX6 with this lens? It says it transfer data. Thanks!

A: Catalyst will only work with Sony bodies that have a Sony E lens on it because the program has to use the focal length of lens that it reads electronically to stabilize the footage. So it should work but it is not guaranteed by Sony to enable Catalyst stabilization to work.

Q: 2. Hi, does this lens have clicking aperture ring or smooth motion?

A: aperture clicks' in half stops

Q: 3. So if this was used on the gh4 it would be a 42 mm lens because of it being a micro 4/3 cropped sensor?

A: Yes, while it is a 21mm lens, it has a field of view of a 42mm lens (in terms of 35mm photography).

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with APSC cameras ?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 21mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens for Sony E can be used with an E-mount camera that has an APS-C sized image sensor. The angle of view of the image you get will be that of a 31.5mm lens on a full-frame image sensor.

Q: 5. It says, "APS-C Format" and "31.5mm (35mm Equivalent)" Does that mean on a full frame camera, such as the a7ii that this would be look identical to a 35mm focal length and not a 21mm?

A: This APS-C lens will push the camera into a crop mode that will give you a 31.5mm field of view.

Q: 6. If they would make this in a Nikon Z mount, I would be first in line to buy one. Any plans for that?

A: We are not aware of one, but new items are announced daily. Keep any eye out as we update the site with new products often.

Q: 7. Will it cover the Sony Venice Sensor?

A: Yes , this is E-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format

Q: 8. Is the lens hood removable?

A: Yes, and you can store it by mounting it backward. By the way very, very good lens.

Q: 9. Is the focus a 'focus by wire' system, or a mechanical focus?

A: It's a manual focus lens but it's very easy to focus if your camera has focus peaking feature. Setting the focus distance to infinity and aperture f8 everything over 3m will be tack sharp.

Q: 10. Will it focus a bit beyond infinity? (as the 65 Apo-Lanthar does) My camera requires a tad more range beyond where most fall, calibration-wise.

A: Yes the Voigtlander Nokton 21mm does focus slightly past infinity.

[APS-C] Purchased this lenses at B&H for my Sony A6000. Keep in mind -this a fully MANUAL lense - No complaining please. Construction - Excellent, a little too well-built for the A6000. For it's size, it's heavy. Mount fits snugly, will notice minimal shifting when jerking the camera, but it's expected - weighs more than the camera. Lens cap good; Mount cap garbage. A true wide angle. Very easy to get the whole frame in focus and sweet subjects isolated when needed. Focus ring is great - for my liking. Aperture is clicked. Center starts sharpening best at F2.0 Corners Best from F4-F8. Better Contrast than the Sony 50mm 1.8, 55mm-210mm, Sigma 19MM, 30MM, 60MM, Can sometimes can be sharper than all of the above. If you really want a quality FULLY MANUAL wide angle lens, then buy it. Otherwise, Touit, Rokinon 12MM F2 (ULTRAWIDE). WARNING: A. Bad lense shadowing when using on-board flash on the SONY A6000. B. Will have to set a custom key to use Focus Magnification. (I used the center dial key - lost Eye AF) Will not automatically pull up this feature like other supported Sony lenses. C. Goodbye Quick Hybrid AF features.

[APS-C] This was one of the first lenses I bought for my GH4 and it's been one of my most used. Renders beautiful colors and flares (if you're into that sort of thing), is wonderfully sharp even wide open, and has a very responsive and smooth focus ring. It's a beast in low light, which makes it especially useful for Micro Four Thirds shooters. A really nice normal prime focal length, especially when paired with the GH4, as this lens comes out to about a 48mm full frame equivalent with the 4K crop. So if you're coming from full frame system with classic 50mm f/1.8 setup, you'll feel right at home with this lens. The body is a metal frame with a tough plastic exterior. It feels well built and and sturdy, and it's stood up marvelously to about a year's worth of consistent use. The construction on all the Rokinon lenses I own has been solid, and I definitely find it better than the all-plastic builds of the budget Panasonic and Olympus lenses. The only real downside some may find with this lens is that it's fully manual. If you are predominantly a video shooter like me, this probably isn't a huge loss, but some photographers may find it unideal. In addition to being fully manual, the focus ring also does not hard stop at infinity, going a few degrees beyond it. So that's important to keep that in mind if you want to use this lens for landscape or astrophotography work. This issue is pretty common on lenses in this price range, and I still prefer a manual ring to wire focus when it comes to trying to nail focus on distant objects. Whether you're a photographer or videographer, this lens has a lot to offer, and for the price it's tough to beat.

[1.055 lb] This lens is excellent. I was a little worried bout manual focusing but it turned out to be incredibly easy on the Sony a6000. I would recommend it without hesitation. My first Rokinon lens is a winner.

[f/22] This lens is sharp and has very nice/strong bokeh wide open. It is also compact and perfect on the a6000. Very solid construction and has a smooth focus ring with much better feel than the focus-by-wire sony lenses. Paired with the mirrorless manual focus aids like the zooming and peaking (you'll need to map a button to do the focus zoom because it won't be able to sense that you've started zooming) this lens is great for street photography. This is a lot of lens for the money.

[f/1.4] I’ve had this lens for a couple of weeks now, and it is my first new lens outside of the efm 50-200 and kit lens (15-45) I got it for it’s wide aperture capabilities, size, sharpness, and medium wide focal length.

The lens is quite sharp and pretty easy to focus with focus peaking turned on, and the whole lens feels much, much higher quality than the kit lens, though it is quite a bit heavier so if you like to go backpacking like me, keep that in mind. The infinity marking seems to be correct on my lens, but it is frustrating that I can’t focus beyond infinity and come back to it to ensure that I’m at the perfect point for very distant objects. It appears to be only marginally sharper than my kit lens at infinity but has better colors and contrast. The lens appears to be sharpest at around f5.6 but is still quite sharp on closer subjects even wide open at f1.4. The amount of detail you get on close/medium distance objects is awesome, and the bokeh look great in my opinion.

I went with the 21mm instead of something wider because I wanted a lens that was narrow enough to still take pictures of people, but was wide enough for landscapes and some astrophotography, a good compromise for backpacking trips. If you’re going for taking pictures of big Milky Way scenes, you’re probably better off with a wider lens, though this one still works fairly well in my opinion.

Overall, this is a great lens as my first prime and I’ve really enjoyed using it the past couple of weeks for everything from pictures of people, landscapes, close ups of objects, and astrophotography. Having f1.4 is a huge step up from the kit lens.

[APS-C] Have just had it a few days, but ran a number us tests on my A6000. Manual focus is very smooth and easy to operate. Wide open the lens is good across the frame. Stopped down to 2.0 the center goes from good to excellent. The far corners improve to really outstanding at f4 to f8. I own the Sigma 19mm, which would be a close competitor. In comparing these 2 lens, it was no contest. The edges on the Sigma 19mm are blurry mess at f2.8 compared to the Rokinon and even stopped down never come close to the Rokinon. Of course, the Sigma has auto focus, and at half the price is still a good buy. If you shoot landscape, like I do, this lens should be on your short list.

[58 mm (Front)] bought this under a slew of positive reviews, i love the focal length in my sony e mount cameras apsC sensor. I have nothing but positives to say about this lens. Clarity, nearly perfect even for pixel peepers. Very nice bokeh at f1.4 easy lens to use more often than not. aperture and focus smooth. Its my second of 4 rokinon/samyang lenses and they are all first rate in quality both build and image. If you can live without AF and this is a focal length you like i cant think of a better choice.
