Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello. Is it possible to emit a video/audio signal through the same SDI port fo this card as a HDMI can?

A: Each of the eight mini din SDI ports on the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad 2 8-Channel 3G-SDI Capture & Playback Card can output and input a video and audio signal.

Q: 2. Does the card support Resolume Arena software?

A: According to Resolume, their Area software will work with the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad 2 8-Channel 3G-SDI Capture & Playback Card B&H # BLDLQ2.

Q: 3. Well, ATEM from Blackmagic doesn't seem reliable from reviews and weak point is ATEM doesn't convert frame rates. Now the Question is - Can I use this card to capture 8 input and use it in any of Live Streaming software like Wirecast as switcher? Is there any software like that? The thing is I'll carry a laptop anyway with ATEM so instead will make a good mini tower PC and will have no problem of storage and RAM.Thank you.

A: The latest ATEM Television Studio 4K Pro does accept any HD or UHD resolution and frame rates on input. The Quad 2 would work for your purpose assuming you have 3rd party software to run it and a qualified computer. Blackmagic does not make switching software for this card.

Q: 4. Well this card seems more usable to me because of its 8 input, and If I have to use it with EGPU(External Graphic processing unit) with thunderbolt, will it work? Like in other question I don't like to travel with PC but will always travel with Laptop to use with ATEM. In this case I can use a gaming laptop and a EGPU with this card in it.

A: As long as the bus the card is connected to is capable of the bandwidth, then it should work.

Q: 5. Does this support 1280x960 resolution? Or what 4:3 resolution can it support?

A: the does not support NOne SMPTE standard resolutions, the supported resolutions are Input Video Format SDI (8/10/12-Bit 4:4:4/4:2:2 RGB, YUV) 1080p: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94/60 fps 1080PsF: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30 fps 1080i: 50/59.94/60 fps 720p: 50/59.94/60 fps NTSC: 60 fps Output Video Format SDI (8/10/12-Bit 4:4:4/4:2:2 RGB, YUV) 1080p: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94 fps 1080PsF: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30 fps 1080i: 50/59.94/60 fps 720p: 50/59.94/60 fps NTSC: 60 fps

Q: 6. What is the connector? It looks smaller than a standard BNC

A: Its called a DIN 1.0/2.3 Male connector. Also known as Micro SDI connector. They make pigtails that go from DIN 1.0/2.3 Male to regular BNC connector.

Q: 7. Can I drop this directly into my custom PC's motherboard without the Sonnet Chassis?

A: Yes, the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad 2 8-Channel 3G-SDI Capture & Playback Card is compatible with PCIe 2.0.

Q: 8. Does this process/Encode video. would this be less of a burden on a computer if it had to separate capture cards for each video. Does the board do any processing of the video. or does the computer GPU and CPU still have to process the video? I want to use this for live streaming I have a 10th gen I7 with 80+ gbs of ram with 6gb graphics card Nvidia p1000 Laptop. Just want to make sure it can Work. I use OBS

A: The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad 2 is a capture card and it does have some processing capability. which is listed below. Processing Colorspace Conversion Hardware based real time. HD Down Conversion Built in, high quality software down converter on playback and capture. Down converted SD selectable between letterbox and anamorphic 16:9 styles. Adobe Premiere Pro CC Mercury Playback Engine effects. Avid Media Composer internal effects.

Q: 9. Can anyone reccomend a capture software that works with this card allowing all 8 inputs to be captured at once? My PC is plenty powerful (64 cores, 128GB RAM, 6TB RAID0 SSD). Thanks!

A: DeckLink cards support common streaming software such as Flash Media Encoder, Wirecast, Livestream Producer and Resolume Avenue 4. On Mac, stream live video with Flash Media Encoder, Wirecast and Livestream Producer. When streaming on Windows, you get compatibility with Flash Media Encoder, Xsplit Broadcaster, Wirecast and Livestream Producer. Resolume software supports all DeckLink capture and playback products straight out of the box! With DeckLink and Resolume you can capture and play back any QuickTime and AVI video files, as well as Flash animations and text overlays with your WAV and AIFF audio files. With Resolume Arena you can even use SMPTE timecode captured by DeckLink to synchronize clips with lasers, lights, fireworks displays or anything you can imagine for the most mind blowing VJ performances!

Q: 10. is this card capabile of recording from 4 sources and ouput on 4 other? i mean i wNant to use this one in oun out in loop.

A: It will not provide a loop output by itself. Your software would have to read an input and drive the output in this case. Blacmagic software provided will not do this.

[0.745 lb] I use this in an external Sonnet SEL Thunderbolt box. Never has a problem.

[9 x 6.7 x 3"] Plugged it in and it works for OBS Studio streaming, no drivers needed. More importantly, it is working to give a quality 1080p image from a Nikon DSLR through a 50 foot HDMI cable. (A different HDMI capture device would not give a signal for this same combination.) 50 feet is pushing the limits for HDMI, so I'm happy not to need an HDMI extender.

[0.745 lb] Excellent product, I bought it in February 2017, and so far it works without problems. My company makes transmissions in social media, and I already have several hundred hours worked with this card, without any problem.

[9 x 6.7 x 3"] Amazing upgrade from USB capture cards to this. The video is clearer, the latency went down to about 100 milliseconds, and its perfectly stable. No complaints whatsoever!

[0.745 lb] It's a solid capture card. Make sure to read the instructions on driver installation though. I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't extract the zip file they provided and that gave me great problems but the moment I extracted it the installation was a success!

[9 x 6.7 x 3"] I went off a B&H recommendation on this products for our church and it has been great. Easy plug and play, HD picture quality and able to work with four cameras. Thank you B&H.

[0.745 lb] I'm a big fan of these capture cards. I've tried Black Magic's cheaper version of these cards and they were riddled with bugs. Their thunderbolt mini recorders were just as bad and unreliable. These cards run for sever hours a day, 5 days a week in our studio and have held up strong for the past two years. In regards to the loud fan issue using Mac products, I'm happy to say Magewell remedied this issue with the release of their 12/2019 drivers from their site. The card doesn't run at 100% fan speed anymore and is much quieter than ever. The old saying applies to this product you get what you pay for. These cards are worth the price.

[0.745 lb] The card was simple to install and it worked right off the bat. I use Vmix to stream for our church and the card works perfectly.

[0.745 lb] This is a popular card for having a good line TBC for interlaced video. This is what you want for capturing old home movies, whereas more expensive cards from BlackMagic that offer analog video/s-video have issues. So it is actually a really good deal for what it offers. I might have to order a second card as a back-up.
