The Shure ULXD2/KSM9HS Wireless Microphone Transmitter 902-928MHzis a digital handheld wireless microphone transmitter compatible with ULX-D receivers. It comes equipped with a dual-diaphragm KSM9HS condenser capsule that captures sonic nuances with superior detail, delivering precise vocal reproduction for high-end live performance.

The KSM9HS capsule offers two switchable polar patterns to provide FOH engineers with more choices in dealing with varying environments or the microphone techniques of different performers. The hypercardioid pattern offers excellent off-axis rejection and extended gain before feedback, making it an ideal choice in loud environments. The subcardioid pattern provides a wide coverage angle with subtle off axis-rejection, resulting in a natural sound and minimized proximity effect.

With rugged, yet lightweight aluminum housing, the ULXD2/KSM9HS transmitter delivers pristine audio quality and RF performance, AES 256-bit encryption for secure transmission, and advanced rechargeability options for professional sound-reinforcement applications.

  • The unit delivers clear, reliable 24-bit/48 kHz digital audio over its entire 330' range, great for live performances and presentations in music venues, houses of worship, and conference spaces.
  • The KSM9HS capsule with dual 3/4” gold-layered, low-mass Mylar diaphragms provides a consistent frequency response.
  • The mic features a Class-A, discrete transformerless preamplifier for transparency, extremely fast transient response, and no crossover distortion.
  • The integrated three-stage "pop" protection grille reduces plosives, wind, and other breath noises.
  • The interchangeable capsule design allows you to replace the KSM9HS capsule with a Shure capsule that’s ideal for your application and simply screw it onto the transmitter—including KSM9, SM58, SM86, SM87A, Beta 58A, Beta 87A, Beta 87C capsules, and more.

  • The unit quickly syncs with a wireless receiver via infrared at the touch of a button.
  • Shure Proprietary Gain Ranging automatically adjusts the mic input level, eliminating the need for transmitter gain adjustments.
  • The power button conveniently doubles as mute switch, while preserving RF lock.
  • Frequency and power lockout functions prevent accidental or unauthorized changes during events.
  • A backlit LCD with easy-to-navigate menu and controls lets you quickly access frequency, group, and channel settings, along with mute and lock status, RF output, and remaining battery life.
  • 0.25/10/20mW selectable RF output power allows you to increase either the transmitter's range or the number of mics operating simultaneously.

  • Operates for up to 11 hours on two AA batteries.
  • Optional Shure SB900A lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack offers intelligent power management with over 12 hours of battery life, precision metering in hours and minutes, and zero memory effect.
  • External charging contacts allow for docked battery charging with the SBC200 dual-docking charger (available separately).
  • The networkable SBC220 charger (available separately) allows for remote power monitoring via Shure’s Wireless Workbench software.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with 24mm mics like the Beyerdynamic M201?

A: Yes, this microphone clip will work with any 24mm microphones. Mostly used with the Shure SM81, SM94, VP64, KSM137, KSM141, and 849, these all have the same dimensions as the Beyerdynamic M201.

Q: 2. The lapel mic on this unit stopped working. What other microphones would work with the transmitters of this unit?

A: You may consider the Azden EX-503 Lavalier Microphone, BH #AZEX503.

Q: 3. Can you connect the mic to a recorder instead of a camera using the red output jack and record to the recorder? So you don’t have to use a SD card.

A: Yes. This is designed to record to both an SD card and or a camera /recorder

Q: 4. Could this be used as an input and output of an audio interface to a macbook pro for streaming?

A: This would connect to the input of your interface and work to transmit the microphone audio while streaming. There would be no way to monitor wirelessy.

Q: 5. Can this be used to shoot tethered? as in, I shoot normally with the camera but the files import into lightroom as their taken? I already have a camranger, I don't need a wireless remote.

A: You can import images to PC into FTP folder as you shoot but not into Lightroom etc. You can use EOS utility wireless and transfer images and open in Photoshop or lightroom. I also have camranger and like it better.

Q: 6. Can you remove the antennas?

A: No, the antennas in the rear of the DW-22 receiver are not removable, but they can be adjusted for tilt and angle.

Q: 7. What other cameras is this compatible with?

A: The WFT-E8A is only compatible with the 1DX II at this time.

Q: 8. Can this be used without using the flash recorder?

A: The Shure VP83F can be used without using the recorder functionality.

Q: 9. Will the receiver transmit static when the mics are turned off?

A: Whether a receiver creates noise while unpaired to its correlating transmitters is not a specification that manufacturers make known. In theory, the receiver in the Nady DW-22 HTHT Digital Wireless Microphone System should not present any extra noise when not paired to the microphone transmitters. However, as this device operates on open channels, it is susceptible to RF activity in the surrounding area, which could manifest as audible static noise.

Q: 10. Is there an auto gain option?

A: This microphone offers manual gain controls from its MENU only.

[IR] We had an old ULXP from 2007. it still works and everything work fine, but the way this digital captures the audio is so much better.
on the old one i had to give it lots of eq. this new one i only have to eq a little bit. i had to apply lots of gain and high gate on the old one but with this one my gain is not as much and my gate has been lowered significantly. the mic does great at adjusting its own gain. i have not had issue with feedback yet. i love that it uses AA batteries.
so even if you dont buy the rechargable battery pack, you wont spend a fortune on batteries. the old ULXP uses 9v batteries and those are pricey. THe mic feels great in your hand, the metal housing really gives it a different feel. I use the mic on 10mw setting and i havent had issues with transmission. RX is 70 feet away and no issues. i Believe its worth the extra 250 to go from QLXD to ULXD models. if your debating if Q or U, spend the extra 250 and get the U, you wont regret it.

[48 kHz / 24-Bit] The Ulxd series from Shure is incredibly fast to setup and sync. After using the uhf-r, these are just way better. You also get 3 transmit power levels in this handle which helps out when your antennas are far away from stage. They are metal housed and very strong. The display is very easy to read, ALTHOUGH, I do like the display on the SLXD better, especially on the transmitter. SLXD has better contrast and easier to read. I have also used the Dante on the Ulxd series. Works great. I have 6 in a rack and one cat6 cable puts them all on the network. No xlr needed if you have a Dante enabled mixer. The available frequencies after a scan in WWB6 are usually around 40-50 in Los Angeles in the g50 band, which is plenty for me. The only thing I would like to see Shure improve on is the battery tray contacts. My frantic customers have broken them several times jamming batteries in sideways. Maybe curl the sides of the contacts more so when they do try and sideways insert it might take the battery without snapping off. Other than that, these handles have been rock solid in the many live performances I have used them on.

[Off/On Switch] Selected the H10 after reviewing frequency band congestion in the area of our church. These microphones sound great and we haven't had any interference.

[48 kHz / 24-Bit] One of our mics disappeared the day before an important event. B&H had the unit in stock, and I was able to pick it up on my way home! These mics are sturdy, easy to use and sync with the multiple receivers in our facility, and we can get good levels before feedback.

[48 kHz / 24-Bit] First unit arrived DOA but B&H send me a new one super fast (thanks B&H). Great sound quality and great RF performance in a noisy spectrum. I love the sync feature and encryption. The only cons: the battery compartment is very delicate and you have to be very careful not to brake the small door.
