The Canon EF to Sony FZ CINE Smart Adapter - Metabonesfrom Canon EF to Sony FZ CINE Smart Adapter - Metabonesallows a Canon EF or EF-S mount lens to be mounted onto a Sony FZ-mount camera, including the F5, and F55. It features precision-machined, chromium-plated brass mounting surfaces on both the lens and camera sides. The adapter is designed to support electronic communication between the camera and lens, allowing image stabilization as well as camera-controlled aperture functions. It also features an assignable function button. If an attached lens is also capable of generating EXIF metadata, the adapter passes that information for the camera to record in its metadata stream.

The adapter features a locking EF mount, providing a sturdy, wiggle-free, solid attachment of the lens to your camera. Just forward of the locking ring is a large cine-style geared iris control ring, which allows you to control the iris of your lens manually if you wish. In addition to the communication to allow your lens to work with an FZ mount camera, the adapter also allows the lens information to be displayed in the camera's viewfinder. The adapter uses the camera to power the lens, and does not require an additional power source. Internal flocking reduces the chance of internal reflections, which can degrade your image.

This CINE Smart adapter allows you to mount a Canon EF mount lens on a camera with a Sony FZ mount, which includes the Sony F5, and F55. The adapter does not contain optics, which means that there is no aperture compensation or image adjustment when using full frame lenses on your camera.

The adapter passes electronic information between your camera and lenses, preserving the electronic function of your lens, except for autofocus. This allows you to utilize in-lens image stabilization (if supported by your lens), auto iris control, lens EXIF info recorded in the camera's metadata, and display of lens information in the camera's viewfinder.

The cine-style geared Iris ring on the adapter allows you to manually control the iris, if you wish, or use an optional lens motor to drive the iris.

The adapter features numerical iris markings that are clear and easy to read. As the adapter allows you to control the iris electronically both manually or by using the camera controls. When working with lenses that have variable apertures as their zoom length changes, the adapter can maintain the aperture you set on the lens as you zoom out (provided you are not shooting wide open).

The lens mount side of the adapter features a locking EF mount that is stronger than and less prone to wobble than the standard EF mount. Both mounting surfaces of the adapter are made from precision-machined brass that has been plated with chromium for a hard finish that is resistant to wear.

[Brass] This adaptor has worked great so far for my FX6 and my Canon lenses. Inserting the lenses can be a little tricky at first, but once you get used to how it works, the adaptor is great.

[Sony FZ] As primarily a video shooter who uses still lenses for cinematic purposes, my only complaint about the prior version of the Metabones adapter (IV) was that there was some shifting when I used lenses with a follow focus. This adapter solves that. For anyone shooting video, this is your adapter.

[Sony FZ] I did my research and then rented this adapter before I bought it to make sure that it would do what I wanted. Before I bought a new Sony A7R IVA body, I wanted to make sure that I could leverage my investment in Canon EF lenses and still get the focus performance from the camera/lens combination. I wasn't ready to buy all new glass. I shoot mostly in Manual mode and found that the camera/lens combination with the 5th generation Metabones adapter performed beyond my hopes. The focus was fast and spot on! It makes me question why I struggled with what may have been state of the art Canon bodies and lenses a decade ago, but have frustratingly slow now. With this adapter, my Canon EF 24-70 f2.8 and EF 70-200 f2.7 lock in focus amazingly fast, with the Metabones adapter as the translator between the Canon lenses and the Sony body. Almost no hunting to find the right focus. There is a small learning curve in getting to truly understand the newest Sony focus modes and focus area, but a solid day of practice and playing with a variety of shooting situations make has allowed me to deliver amazing results. I initially had some concerns that the weight of the lenses with the extra connection by using the adapter might cause problems, but the mount joints are rock solid. This adapter has let me deliver shots that I could never have taken before. Check to make sure that the firmware is updated to the latest version to minimize lens incompatibility. The Metabones adapter will let me leverage several thousand dollars of investment in Canon lenses and take advantage of the performance of new Sony sensors and focus firmware. Well worth the investment!

[2.01 lb] I've long used the Metabones Mark III & IV Canon EF - to - Sony E smart adapters to mount a set of Carl Zeiss manual-focus ZE-mount Otus and 'Classic' Canon-compatible lenses to Sony A7R and A7R Mk. II cameras. The Metabones adapters have performed well with these lenses, however I've always been slightly dissatisfied with the slight lens play characteristic of any twist-lock Canon mount. Very occasionally, in bright sunlight, I've noticed streaking which I attribute to possible light leakage (my adapters did not have the nonreflective interior flocking added to later versions). In hopes of improving matters, I acquired the new Metabones CINE Mark V adaptor, which prevents lens rocking or twisting by clamping the lens securely. The new mount should also reduce wear on the lens's electronic contacts and engagement fingers. I have successfully used the CINE adapter on the following Zeiss 'ZE' mount lenses: Classic 35/1.4, 15/2.8, 135/2.0; and Otus 28/1.4, 55/1.4, 85/1.4. The adaptor fit and finish are superb, and the device completely fulfills my expectations.

[2.01 lb] I know others who hate how tight the mounting ring can get when you mount a lens with this. Honestly, I would have to call that user error. This thing is easy on and easy off, just don't wrench the lens onto the adapter. It is secure.

[Sony FZ] This is a CINE-adapter. A couple of reviews took issue with the mount causing their fingers to hurt when shooting stills but this is intended for cinema-style production. And it isn't intended for stills shooting. If you are shooting video you are likely using some sort of hand grip mounted to the camera and as a result your right hand fingers are never going to be between the mount and the camera body when shooting. Your left-hand fingers are going to be on the focus ring. If you are holding the camera in a still-photographer manner, then no, the CINE adapter isn't for you. Get an adapter that isn't intended for cine-style shooting.

Another complaint was that the lens does not click-lock into the mount and the PL-style of the adapter can be fiddly. This isn't a quick-change adapter and, to me at least, the "CINE" designation suggests that it is not for run & gun shooting but productions of a deliberate and measured pace of shooting. It is for more methodical "Cine" type of shooting. Ideally, you have a MB Cine adapter for each lens. The adapter never comes off once mounted, thus negating any concern over the mounting process. One and done. If you are regularly going to be swapping the mount from lens to lens, the standard non-Cine adapter is better for your need. Same if you are shooting fast-paced 'Run & Gun' style where speed is of the essence.

[2.01 lb] This is a great way to convert EF mount lenses to a E mount. Iris control is smooth and the lenses seat very tightly. It takes a bit to learn how to seat an EF lens but once you get the hang of it the lens feels very secure. Not great if you want to use AF, but very few adapters are. Get E mount lenses if you want solid AF performance.

[2.01 lb] This is a great adaptor. Good communication w/ my Canon lenses unlike a more expensive adaptor currently on the market. This is the adaptor to buy. Sturdy, well made, able to update on line.

[2.01 lb] Think about how much you spent on your lenses, it's worth having a secure adapter to make sure they're safe. It also allows the lens to communicate to your camera (A7 series) to give you more control in camera.
