Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone tryed to use the 2.0 nikon teleconverter on a 70-200 f2.8 and change the crop to DX? will it still work with autofocus?

A: I believe the answer is yes. I switched the combined 70-200 f2.8 lens from my D750 to my D7000 which is a DX camera the auto focus worked normally. I've been pleased with the 2.0 teleconverter and glad I chose the 2.0 rather than the 1.2.

Q: 2. Will it work with a f2.8/80-200 D and D500?

A: I believe I have used this TC with the 80-200/2.8And it was very effective but it wasn't on the D-500 but rather the D-3x

Q: 3. I have a nikon d3500 with a nikon 200-500mm lens, will this work on this combination?

A: Yes Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III will work with a nikon d3500 and with a nikon 200-500mm lens but it will be manual focus only.

Q: 4. I shoot Nikon and was wondering if this would work with on my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Sp Di to bring it closer to 2:1, I get amazing results as is but I would like to get closer. My buddy uses a Canon Extender EF 2X III with his Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 to get 10x mag with stunning results. If not what would you suggest I use to achieve 2:1?

A: I doubt you could use that lens with this TC. As you can see in the picture, the front lens element of this TC extends all the way to the front of the shaft, so you risk grinding glass, if the rear element of the tamron is too close to the back of the lens shaft. Most importantly, Nikon TCs have a small flange that prevents anything but they're specified series of lenses to mount to it. I know that some people modify their TC by grinding with a dremel, but you may lose AF functionality. This TC works relatively well, though you can lose some sharpness. I'm not sure what to recommend in its place.

Q: 5. Is this teleconverter compatible for a Nikon D810 and a sigma 70-200mm 2.8?

A: The Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20E III is NOT compatible with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. It is only compatible with select Nikon lenses.

Q: 6. what is the difference between teleconverter and macro extension tube?

A: A teleconverter effectively increases the focal length of a lens and decreases its aperture. So, for example, with a 2x teleconverter, a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens becomes a 140-400mm f/5.6 lens. The range of distances over which the lens will focus does not change.A macro extension tube allows a lens to focus closer (usually much closer) than it would otherwise, at the cost of making it impossible to focus on things that are far away. It does not change the lens' focal length or aperture.

Q: 7. can I use the Z9 with FTZ adaptor and the TC and my 500 mmPF?

A: Yes you can use the Nikon Z9 with FTZ adaptor, teleconverter and a Nikon 500 mmPF lens.

Q: 8. How is the photo quality and autofocus speed when used with 600mm fl and D850?

A: I'm an employee and I tried it in the store (I'm sure you won't be using it in indoor retail environments) but in a brighter outdoor sports/birding/wildlife area it should perform well. It pushes it down to f/8, but the images are still sharp.

Q: 9. Will this work with a D750 and a AF-S 28-300?

A: I would not recommend using. 2x teleconverter with your 28x300 even if they might fit together functionally. The reason is twofold: the 18x300 is slow enough that with the two stop penalty for using the converter (F/4 becomes F/8, F5.6 becomes F11) autofocus would not work. Also, the converter magnifies optical errors in the lens which may be acceptable with the lens directly on the camera, will become very noticeable with the teleconverter. You are better off just cropping your D7100 image. The teleconverter works best with the really high image quality fixed focal length lenses, and works just ok with the 70-200 F2.8 zoom.

Q: 10. Anyone try this with a 300/2.8 VR II on a Z7?

A: The Nikon TC-20E III AF-S Teleconverter and the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 300mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens would both be compatible for use with the Nikon Z7 Mirrorless Digital Camera when paired with the Nikon FTZ Lens Mount Adapter.

[0.075 lb] Set up immediately and everything good does what I wanted to get extra reach with my 300mm lens.

[0.075 lb] I have a Nikon D850 and Z9 and use the TC on both. Have used the TC on both cameras with my F mount lens, Nikon 200-500mm mostly for bird/eagle photos. TC is more clear on the Z9 for sure. Lost of shutter speed is noticeable, so really can only be used on stable subjects or really crank up the ISO. I knew this when I bought it, but it was worth the money to me. Will use this many years.

[0.075 lb] Bought to extend my new 300mm PF lens to 420mm. First tests; hand holding, of a Heron was impressively sharp. Really pleased with the results.

[Neoprene] I bought this teleconverter primarily to use with my 500mm F/5.6 PF but also with my 70-200mm F/2.8. I have a TC-17 and while I do occasionally use it, I've never been totally satisfied with the reduction in sharpness and slower focusing. The 500 PF is my sharpest Nikon lens and I didn't want to do anything to compromise it. With the TC-14 and the 500 PF on my Z9 I am seeing no reduction in sharpness or contrast. The AF might be a little slower, but not enough to matter. I get consistently sharp shots of birds in flight. I waited a year for B&H to get this teleconverter in stock and I can. honestly say it was worth the wait. The shot of the moon was hand held. The one of the Heron was also hand held, 15 shots at 20 fps, all except one in razor sharp focus.

[0.075 lb] Have been using the previous generation (TC-14E II) on all of my telephoto lenses (Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR II, 300mm f/4 PF, converted Olympus 250mm f/2, Olympus 180mm f/2) for years with great results. This new one (the TC-14E III) is just a little bit better on all fronts...at least through FTZ I and II adapters on my Nikon Z9 and Z7 bodies. Improved autofocus performance, less color aberration, better contrast, tonal range versus the older TC-14E II. It's not a quantum leap improvement in any of these areas but, on a higher resolution sensor, it is noticeable and a worthwhile upgrade.

[0.075 lb] I tested this Nikon TC-14E III teleconverter using my Nikon 300mm PF
f/4.0 E prime lens. The teleconverter fits tight into the Nikon 300mm
PF f/4.0 E lens and that is good because I intend to finally use this
teleconverter to make a Nikon 500mm PF f/5.6 E lens as a 700mm
lens. Uploaded are 3 images taken a while ago to test this
teleconverter: DSC0331.jpg, DSC0332.Jpg and DSC0333.jpg. Both
DSC0331.jpg and DSC0333.jpg images are sharp but the second
image DSC0332.jpg has some blur and I did perform an internet
search on the 300 PF VR problem and it is still dependent on the
camera used. I am using a Nikon Z9 with the latest firmware version
5.0 and noticed the blur at exposure time of 1/50 of a second which is
in image DSC0332.jpg. Both DSC0331.jpg and DSC0333.jpg images
having an exposure time of 1/40 of a second did not have the blur
problem. The TC-14E III has no problem but the sharpness of the
image will now depend on me finding what technique I need to use to
eliminate blur in the image or I can purchase TopazLabs Photo AI to
sharpen the slight blur of the image.

[Neoprene] I bought this set to use on 14 and 17 TCs. I had to trim the larger one as it is intended for a 2x TC - it's easy to trim and fits the slightly smaller 17 TC perfectly. I own several other LensCoat products and have been extremely happy with them.
